INTRODUCTION

This GUI was designed to be used for manual targeting and for people who play without "God's Eye View". It does not have the notepad and it provides tools to make it easier to get a firing solution manually. In addition, the Attack Map has been replaced with a full size TDC. It also tries to be historically correct. However, it works great with auto targeting. If you do not select "Manual targeting system", when you target a ship the id and firing solution will be automatically displayed on the TDC.

Another way of playing would be to select "Manual targeting system" and not select "No Weapon Officer assistance". In this way, you can do manual targeting but if you don't feel like doing it you can just ask for the ship id or solution to the Weapon Officer.

The RAOBF disk does not work if you do not select "Manual targeting system".

FEATURES

- 1920x1080 resolution.
- Authentic looking, full size TDC instead of Attack Map.
- AI upscaled TDC dials.
- Correct AOB and Bearing dials with 10 degree vernier.
- Big Optics that take advantage of the high resolution.
- Custom reticle with the vertical scale in angular radians and the horizontal scale in degrees, like the original ones.
- Calibrated reticle on both periscopes. You can accurately measure using the vertical and horizontal scales at both 1.5x and 6x zoom.
- Authentic looking Uzo with only a vertical line as reticle and 7.1x zoom.
- Commander binoculars with 8x zoom and authentic reticle.
- Proportional and accurate fields of view and zoom in all optics, calibrated using the periscope as reference.
- All other cameras calibrated so that ships look about the same size from the bridge as from the periscope at 1.5x zoom.
- Lower light levels on both periscopes with the attack periscope being darker.
- Full screen map
- Plotting tools you can draw on top of.
- Dragable and activable chronometer.
- Dragable analog clock that looks like the original.

CREDITS

This GUI would not have been possible without the previous work of many moders. Thanks a lot to everyone of them.

- HITMAN: This GUI contains some of his great code and research. I also used some of his graphics.

- Brodaga222: I included his great graphics for menu screens, some of his dials and some other stuff.

- The GWX Team: I included GWX charts, integrated orders mod, and probably a lot of graphics that originally were made for GWX and have found their way to more recent GUIs. Also, in general they have made a great contribution to SH3.

- Tycho: I included his GridXXXX mod and most importantly his patch is the key for some of the features of this GUI.

- Seeadler: Without his great work modifying d3d9.dll this would have been impossible.

- Reaper7: I used his great TDC graphic.

- Ahnenerbe: I didn't take anything directly from his GUI but Brodaga222 states that ARB is based on Ahnenerbe WideGui.

- Leitender: I used graphics from his compass mod.

- Anvar1061: Contributed the graphics for the training screen and the base file I used for flotillas.cfg.

- Toyotagt86: Contributed several very nice charts.

- JAFO-: I used his RAOBF Disk fix.

- Makman94: I upscaled the face of his analog clock to use in DGUI. Along with Hitman, he inspired me to do a manual targeting oriented GUI and I got ideas from his work.

- Onelifecrisis: I am sure many later GUIs contain his work and so it is probably in mine.

- Karamazovnew: I used parts of his AOB dial.

- JonZ: I modified his original chronometer and his recognition manual is in here.

- Joegrundman: I included his U-jagd chronometer.

- Vanjast: I learned a lot from reading his comments on menu_1024x768.ini which I included in mine.

- FLB Sale: I used his big depth dial as a basis for mine.

- Rubini and Conus00: As OLC I am sure their work is the basis of most of the later GUIs.

Again, thanks a lot to everyone and if you see something you own here please let me know to credit you or take it out.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

I am including a Sh3.exe file with the needed patches already applied. I applied the patches myself over my steam Sh3.exe. I also ran an antivirus scan to make sure there was nothing bad.

- IF YOU DON'T NEED TO APPLY YOUR OWN PATCHES:

- Move your DGUI_Hardcore_vxx directory to the MODS folder in your SH3 installation and install using JSGME

- IF YOU NEED TO APPLY OTHER PATCHES

- Apply Hsie's patch first according to his instructions.

https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=174225

- Apply Stiebler patch second (this is optional).

- Apply Tycho's SH3 Patch next, it must be installed for this GUI to work properly. Use the one included here because it is customized for DGUI. You need to select the following options:

Expand Nav and Attack maps render limit
Disable hardcoded scopes reticle
Functional draggable chronometer

You may choose any other option but they are not required.

- Copy your patched Sh3.exe to DGUI_Hardcore_vxx directory.

- Move your DGUI_Hardcore_vxx directory to the MODS folder in your SH3 installation and install using JSGME

Hello,

For now, I have no plans to add more tools like that. The main reason is that they all have to share the notepad AOB, torpedo depth and spread angle dials. So, when you use them you reset your torpedo settings and I don't like that. To include them I would have to find a way to do it that feels polished and bug free.

You are welcome to create a separate mod that adds them to DGUI.

Diego

"How do you use the distance charts to measure the range in your hardcore version? They are not so easy to read like in your stock version, any way to replace them?"

The ones on my stock version were contributed by Toyotagt86 who is much better at doing graphics than I am. They are also calibrated in milliradians which I used in my stock version.

On the other hand, the ones on the hardcore version are pages from an actual uboat manual. I chose them to show that calibration is realistic enough to use the same manual uboat officers used. They are calibrated for angular radians.

Chart 1 is for the vertical scale on the periscope, on the left column you can read the angular radians. Remember that each tick on the periscope's vertical scale represents 10 angular radians (each angular radian is 1/16 of a degree). On the top horizontal row you can read the mast height in meters. On each column in the chart you can read the distance at 1.5x and 6x in hundreds of meters.

Chart 2 is for the horizontal scale in the periscope. On the left column you have degrees and on the top row you have the ships length in meters.

I hope this helps,

Regards,
Diego

Thanks for the reply Diego maybe you can help me out with another issue, I use toyota86 gwx enhanced mod and i I can't put the hardcore version to work when I load it via Sh3 commander the lines on the scopes get messed up, but if I launch it without Sh3 commander everything shows up fine, I don't have this issue with your stock version everything works fine with or without Sh3 commander.

It is a very benign bug. The chronometer is on top of the help button, just move it down for now. I will use a new default position for next version.

The main change is that I added a new font. I used it for the F1 Help screen, the tags on the TDC and a few other places. The idea is to make text easier to read at 1080p. I also added the new commands and formated a bit the help screen. Mostly polish and no functionality changes.

I find that it is perfect as its less light around the lens..

this lighting if you can do it on both scopes.. as well as the "wear effect" patina on the lenses of the binoculars and the uzo..
I also thank you for what is already done as well as the last update

This change ties the charts to the right panel so that they don't show on the Orders, Radio Messages and Captain's Log screens. However, as it is implemented when you drag a chart it will be below the right hand panel but above the left side panel. So, it solves an inconsistency but creates another. I will do some tests to try to implement it without any inconsistencies.

Thanks a lot to mazzi for the tip!

In real life the red light was used to make it easier for your eye to adjust to the darkness outside. I think in the mod it does help you to adjust and makes it easy to see through the periscope at night. In OneAlex mod the red light is brighter and also it does not affect the instruments. I would be willing to make it brighter but keeping it on top of the instruments. I will test it to see how it looks.

@Fifi

Would you contribute your wear effects to the mod? I would like to check the files and see how big they are. Also, it would be great if you have them as a layer in your file.

Diego

Didn't think it was important. If understood correctly.
You need to raise sections [G3F I118 - I168] and [G3F I179 - I184] higher [G3F I38] (where ItemID=0x3F010000). Hope you don't do it by hand.

thank you but with my experience I already know this is the very essence here I am a big fan of these underwater warships..
to support what I told you about the relief of the night light go see here but the video is not at the top but you have a preview..:yep:

2_ I think in the mod it does help you to adjust and makes it easy to see through the periscope at night
Not here because it is too concentrated on the whole image.. in addition the filter is too red overall..

3_In OneAlex mod the red light is brighter and also it does not affect the instruments
In his mods the light focuses on the instruments and not on the lens..
the filter does not have an overall effect it is very good the way it does... I know because it was me who provided it with the "tga" except that I had it blue... however I did not handed Photoshop right now...!!! I don't want to put it back...!!! besides, it annoys me sometimes when I want to tinker with "tga"...but I don't want to spend a lot of time in it!!! I don't have time to mod... and I'm not a modder... but I see what it's all about..
I thank you Diego Gut for having responded favorably to my request and wish you good luck for the best..

Diego,
Just to let you know for information, your SH3 exe from Steam doesn’t work well on my pc.
Had hydrophone contacts on surface when installing Fumo 29…
Hydrophone contacts on surface was fixed via the Hsie patch, but it seems it’s not working well on a Steam exe.
I have taken a regular exe, and problem is gone…
:Kaleun_Salute:

diego_gut
04-23-22, 04:12 PM
The exe that comes with DGUI only has 4GB patch, DRM removed and Tycho's patches necessary for the GUI applied. If you need other Hsie patches you have to apply them yourself over an exe in it's original state. I included Tycho's configuration file tailored for DGUI which should be used.

I did it this way because some people might not like some of the patches but in the future I might include the most basic ones. Also, I did not want to redistribute Hsie's supplement. The fact that the exe comes from Steam does not matter.

Regarding the commands loss you can delete the commands.txt that comes in the mod cdg folder. Regarsing the camera if you erase the dat files will mess the scopes and uzo.

Try enable: disable hardcoded periscope lines in tycho patch.

If not I will have to remember harder.......

The problem is if you copy the camera files from gwx you fix the rockiness but screw up the scopes. Even with the tyco patch hardscope option enabled.

The only real solution is to modify the Cameras.DAT file, adding the missing entries from GWX. Of course it takes some time and lots of testing to see if nothing has been screwed up in the process and if there are no incompatibilities.... :yep:

As I said before. Igot it running with no double skope
Capzap is right.
They need modify.
I dont like the free moving option from gwx.

However, I have fixed the double periscop pretty qick.
For now all is good and I finished weeks ago with this question.

But I dont remember the files even now im looking at it.

My solution is:

I upload my library folder and you are good to go.

The grada file it is.

Try it out

Yes send me the file to try it out. Thank you.

So glad I found this widescreen mod after days of searching for a good one for a vanilla play-through (most of them are very dated, it seems). It seems to be the one used in onealex but I thought I'd do my first playthrough of SH3 with v1.4b vanilla (with maybe just a bug-fix pack and this mod) to get used to SH3's systems and interface. Kudos to the author
