SCT = Chemical Goods Freighter or Small Coastal Tanker

I couldn't find any world war two ship match to this and I have serious doubt this is a world war two ship at all. The thing above the mast is clearly a radar not a standard wwii merchant equipment.

A plausible WWII island ferry ship, found quite a few looks like it but nothing 100% match.

Just found out there is another group of ship looks quite like this one

KQS = Small Costal Merchant
https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/aa366/shadow_wxh/KQS.png

The matching ships are US made WWI era Lake cargo ship
USS Lake Shore
http://www.navsource.org/archives/09/49/094904503.jpg

USS Lake Superior
http://www.navsource.org/archives/09/49/094904606.jpg

USS Lake Champlain
http://www.navsource.org/archives/12/1217179102.jpg

USS Lake Huron

SS Lake Sunapee

https://www.shipscribe.com/usnaux/ww1/images/added/1044-l_sunapee1-08.jpg

These are not 100% the same ship but the general profile matches and the ship dimesions within reasonalbe range.Consider the model quality we currently having now,I say the model matches these ships fair enough.

Nice find ! But did those ships travel through the Atlantic ? :06:

Which one? those KKFKK merchants?Yes. Half of them stayed in the great lake area and retired before WWII. The rest went all over the world sold to all different contries and some even paticipated during D-day.

DE_BH1 = Big Hunter or BigHumter01=Coastal Corvette

https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/aa366/shadow_wxh/NPC_497.png

Is identified as US made SC-497 Class Subchaser. It not the best quality model in the world many details are missing but I am quite confirmed this is the ship.

Here are the real ships:

SC-497
http://www.navsource.org/archives/12/1215049701.jpg

SC-498
http://www.navsource.org/archives/12/1215049802.jpg

SC-661 / BO-303

SC-1047 / BO-208
http://sovnavy-ww2.ho.ua/chasers/pic/bo208.jpg

Huge number of these were made and lend-lease to other countries,435 served in US,8 served in Brasil, 50 served under Free French and France,136 Served in Russian and they do call them "Big Hunter" for some unknown reason obviously they are not very big.

142 subchasers of the SC-497 type under Lend-Lease received the Soviet VMF. 50 - by the French, 8 - by the Brazilians. Mexico and Norway received three each. In Norway, all three SCs survived: the hunter "Hitra" (ex-SC-718) is now on display at the Royal Naval Museum, and the remains of the hunters "Hessa" (ex-SC-683) and "Vigra" (ex-SC-1061) can be found off the coast of Sweden.

If i well remember, this kind of barge was called "péniche" :hmmm:

I don't think it's modeled after a specific ship - rather a general "motorized barge" concept, meant to represent ships like these:

I think it would be rather difficult to 100% identify small ships like those but sometime you never know.

Another ship I have trouble identify is this guy here.

It's strange. Bow shape, hull proportions and cargo hatches shape and arrangement look very similar to Great Lakes freighters:

https://sep.yimg.com/ay/seagifts/great-lakes-freighter-wood-and-pvc-model-ship-kit-by-dumas-11.gif

but superstructure looks like a common tramp steamer. :hmmm:

It is too long for a lake freighter and too shallow for a sea going freighter wander if such ship really do exist.

These things could be pretty long:

But as for the ship in question, I too couldn't find any real ship that would match it.

Perhaps this:

https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/da55/tkjp7oogx3k415q6g.jpg (https://www.mediafire.com/view/tkjp7oogx3k415q)

From here (https://www.history.navy.mil/research/library/online-reading-room/title-list-alphabetically/m/merchant-ship-shapes.html).

Despite the flush-bulled appearance created by trunking over the wells between islands, the ship illustrated has a raised forecastle and poop (or "raised 1-3") and should be so reported. The ship is an old split superstructure MKFKM freighter.

Maybe?

You have to remember some Units were very early Mods.
So some ships are totally imaginary just to get more units in Game.
Not saying this thread is wrong or worthless.

I'd expect the Cyclops in GWX is on this hit list at some point.
Knowing full well it is not up to your standards.

Looks close but clearly not the same ship.If we know the builder of this ship then we might be able to trace other similar designs.

Empire freighter? :hmmm:

Mister_M
12-15-21, 08:58 AM
This model is so poor that it can probably not be assigned to any existing ship... It looks very unreal to me.

Empire freighter? :hmmm:

The attribution of the term "Empire" by the British, is a generic term which does not characterize a type of ship but practically all the ships acquired or built during the conflict and managed by the MOS (Ministry of Shipping) then by the MOWT (Ministry of War Transport) in 1941.

Thus, an Empire ship may be a tugboat, a coaster, a liner, a tanker, a medium or large cargo ship...

This was probably intended to be some kind of light composite superstructure merchant. I recognize it as based on a SH4 ship created by the original developers. I agree, the proportions could use a bit of work.:hmmm:

This might have been the modeler's inspiration - hull is very similar. Superstructure though, either out of proportion or modeled after different ship.

+1

Am with kapuhy on this...

Ispiration to the original modder, perhaps.

Hull, similar... but... no cigar for you, My Burns. Bridge housing, is missing the wings as is in the actual ship side by side pics... & the kingposts (:hmmm: think that's the name of them... like the hull... looks closely similar, is off a bit.

Then there is the 2... masts, on top of the bridge housing in the mod ship that is absent in the pic of the MV Washington express.

Could go on, about the differences... but, suffice it to say, I believe those I named off, are enough to say...

"Next suspect, if you please, your honor."

On that, can agree... out of curiosity, did a search on it... &... results were... almost, just about a complete Bup kiss, big fat goose egg... zilch...

Except, for this teeny, tiny... snippet & not much else:

http://www.warsailors.com/singleships/washingtonexpr.html

Of particular note, ship managed to make it through WW2, unscathed, near as I can tell of, from the small bit of info.

Sank in '62, after a collision with another ship on her last voyage.

Wow, time is passing quickly! :timeout:

Let's remember that this thread may be useful for every modder. It's like Wikipedia.

By the way, I wonder why nobody ever created some sort of wiki for SH3 to help modders. So much time could be saved instead of repeating same errors and searching 10 times the same solution....
