What do you think of something like that combine all good mods with SH3, SH4, SH5 and re-upgrade it into a real 500% game

So what are the "good mods?"
That's a rather subjective statement and guaranteed to not please everyone.

... you must not forget that submarine sim's are a niche product, with which you can not so well / so quickly rake in money.
... if and when "any" developer studio comes up with the idea ... "hey we do it just like that" ... we take the "best" ... of ... "all", because even the mod's belong legally actually "belong to us" (Ubi & Co) .... and then develop the best submarine game on the market ..... what there was / is ... ... no idea ... so much beer there is not to "dream" ...
... and ...
... for that the "modder-resources" are not enough ... especially ... since all "her thing" make ....
... since "all modders" would have to get together / find each other ...
.... ah ... dreams are beautiful ... especially after 3-4 beers ... grin ...

Give a programmer the source code?
Anything can be done.
I'll not waste time even thinking about it since getting the Source for SH3 and up is probably about the same odds as Me winning the Lottery!
I probably stand a better chance of being hit by lightening!

since a major game like IL-2Sturmovik the manufacturer has released the source code, is it not possible to try to ask Ubisoft that of SH3? in the end it is an almost forgotten game for them, it doesn't hurt to try

Yes really over 15 years ... it seems to me that Uncle Neal has already made this request, right? and that Ubi was not concerned by this request ...
Ubi prefers to watch the stock market action ... anyway if nothing is done this game will end in oblivion ... because we always revolve around the said problem ... or will be played by a few enthusiasts who was constituted at a certain time formidable modders ... especially with the means of the moment ... when we see what has been achieved respected but these people are becoming less and less numerous then the limited field of possibilities has done its work ... but it would be necessary mobilize a lot of people to make things happen a bit like gta5 for pc players ... there is necessarily a compromise to be found with the publisher ... that they let go of their console which "ram" and which will never be a pc! !!! .. must say that there are so many sheep to shear .... :har::har::har: :Kaleun_Salute:

There is nothing worse for UBI than to have their programmers/developers work made to look inferior by the modders here on SubSim.
"A volunteer is worth ten" but in this case much more.
(Lets try to keep the option open that we might eventually get the code from UBI...so 'nuff said!)

I still think this is the best option for sh5 but forget UBI, go through steam.
Build a patch, not a wish list, just a patch to make the sim playable and offer it to steam. I think once it's out there and working it might make talking to UBI a little more productive. Fact is sh5 should have been the next gen sh3.
Option two sh4 witch is a bit dated itself but still looks good, I've been playing that dark waters mod and see great potential there.
sh3 is still the best! Onealex Edition, WAC smoke and effects, with harbors!
how could it get any better :up:

fortunately the ridiculous does not kill ... as far as I see it has no limit;
when has these famous consoles
_1st year they are barely optimized ..
_2nd year it works but there are not enough games ... (when it has not burned)
_3rd year it is already archaic must go to the next model .. is not to speak of the theme of the network ... you imagine!
I have a machine which is soon 8 years old which has to support 3 different bones then an occulus is which makes run red dead redemption 2 I will only go back up one for this summer .. it is already in the boxes .. good js stop because I am already archaic ... :har::har::har:

If I ever hit the Lottery? I'd offer UBI BIG BUCKS for the SH5 source code!

AOD is the best subsim game I have ever played. I would rather see a remake of AOD than anything Silent Hunter (ok MAYBE SIlent Hunter 1).
My dream is using the engine and multiplayer netcode in SH4 to remake a battle of the atlantic type multiplayer campaign game with air and sea platforms. Each sector on the patrol map would be a "Room" and players would resolve battles each turn.

I suppose it stems from a time when the only controls for a console were a joystick with a single red button in the upper left corner and a "paddle" controller consisting of a rheostat and a button...
That you could use the joystick on the C=64 was a bonus...
Once I got the Epyx joystick, though, it was all over for the Epyx "... Games" series...

I still have a C64 and a crap load of games in the closet both floppies for the 1541 diskdrive and cartridges, joysticks too. Bunch of old analog joysticks from my first PC's and even a functioning Amstrad 512 PC-20 a whopping 2 mhz? computer my first. I really need to clean out that stuff LOL. Off topic but wow when we went from RGB/CGA/EGA to VGA graphics

I am thinking about this for a long time but no idea where to start. Ubi wont release the source code and even they do it only good as salvage resource there is still huge amount of work to be done. Curently there are serval technical difficulties which greatly hinder the game:
1.The 4 GB limit- If you load to many obejects in within uboat's 20km radius the game crashes
2.The Square Earth- the further you move north or south the further east-west distance get stretched.This prevent you from mapping any ship movement correctly,the time distance and speed wont add up.
3.Game engine optimaise-if you write too many unit in the champain file it will just read all of it at once and take forever to load and use up memory too

Major Silent Hunter improvements have been on my mind often; don't lose heart!
I will be doing everything in my power to make this happen.
1) Not to brag, but I have learned a lot from the years of development of Wolves of the Kaiser. I am probably one of the most experienced modders, and I have been playing since Silent Hunter II! Rest assured that I will be switching back to WWII Atlantic Theatre modding now that WOTK is coming out soon.
2) Again, not to brag but I am financially pretty comfortable (no longer the impoverished student playing unmodded SH3 in 2005 in my dorm, lol!) :D Thanks to my career I can contribute a fair amount of funds towards any purchase of modding tools, rights, etc. needed to bring the Silent Hunter series up to date. Nothing extravagant, but I could potentially help with a decent sum, if given the right guarantees. :Kaleun_Cheers:

My $0.02...... The game is 16 years old...and that's OK. I see a lot of mods that make it fun. The game can still continue to survive as long as the modding community thrives. Example: Tecmo Super Bowl. New rosters come out every year. Hell, you can even get one with USFL and WLAF rosters!! To the modders, keep it going! Make good mods, clear and easy instructions, and it will continue to live and improve.
Is there a reason to prefer SH3 over SH4?
I'm curious engine-wise, why there is interest in SH3?

SH3 is a Subsim classic that has much more depth (I am talking about how you can play the type I-XXI from 1939-1945) and mods than most subsims.
I cannot type it all because right now I have to go to bed.

Poor Silent Hunter 4 is the neglected Middle Child of the last three SH series games! :) It lacks the iconic charm of Silent Hunter 3 and the good-looking graphics of Silent Hunter 5.
Nevertheless, it is the Silent Hunter game with the best balance between graphics and moddability, so it still has a place on my hard drive.
If Ubisoft were to release the source code for SH3, perhaps something similar to Falcon 4.0 BMS could happen.

Yes, for all of these reasons, a brand new game should be developed to create a modern "SH3 type" game with a more realistic and historical background. Recently, brand new WWII FPS were born (Post-Scriptum, Hell let loose, Enlisted) which dramatically increased the level of realism. So, why not a modern WWII U-Boat game ? SH3 is way too much limited !
Is there any place where you can suggest ideas for a new game and vote for them, in order to influence game studios ?

That was a bit tongue-in-cheek, but seriously I don't place much faith in petitions/wishlists/voting as far as influencing game studios is concerned. Being businesses, they care about money so most effective way of influencing them is voting with your wallet. I guess people who backed Wolfpack or Uboat did more to convince game studios that creating new subsims is worth their time than any votes or suggestions ever will.

It's happened before, look at 1C Cliff of Dover.
Out of the box had great potential but was crawling with bugs.
Until a dedicated group set aside their egos and went to work on it creating a patch of their own making it a flyable sim.
I'm not sure what more could be done for SH3 other than mem.
But SH5 would be an excellent candidate and the patch already exists in TWoS.
It just needs a distributor like steam to maybe get UBI's attention.

There is a LOT that could be done to make SH3 more a simulation and less the fps in a Battle of the Atlantic setting that it more or less is.
I don't know enough about coding, etc. to know if that would require more memory or not.

Guys I got the SH5 source code. i have managed to buy it from UBI, here is the whole code:
#include <stdio.h>
int main() {
// printf() displays the string inside quotation
printf("Hello, World!");
return 0;
}
But really, I like SH3 and SH5 the way they are...crappy and old :O:
We don't really need a remake. We just need the SH3 source recompiled for 64-bit, and then we can go wild.

Steam? Nothing influences game studios like "sales of submarine themed games" graph.
The problem is that if the big studios would do another Uboat/Submarine sim, it would be riddled with all the "nice" things that modern Games aka GaaS (Games as a service) would have, as in Micro transactions, Loot boxes and all that other stuff.
Want a new Type VIIC? Have you seen our newest sale at our in game cash shop? It's only 29,99 (insert currency of your choice).
The Biscaya crosss? Oh, sure, right here for only a measly 9,99.
