Mission - Operation Saffron Dagger

G'day everyone,

I've just uploaded my first complete mission. :03:

EDIT - this mission was made with RA Mod version 1.39

It's Monday, 24 September, 2007. George W. Bush is president. Soulja Boy's Crank That and Nickelback's Rockstar are in the charts and the top three films are Halloween, 3:10 to Yuma and Superbad.

In Myanmar, protests, and consequential government crackdowns, are escalating after the government removed fuel subsidies in mid-August. The 'Saffron Revolution' is intensifying.

You're the Captain of the USS Helena (SSN 725) and you've just completed a goodwill port visit to the Indian naval base at Port Blair, in the Andaman Islands. Pull out of port, Captain.

Orders to follow.

This is a long mission (174 hours) - so saving after each evolution is recommended. This mission wasn't inspired by the current events in Myanmar; rather I made this after watching Rambo (which is set during the Saffron Revolution in Myanmar) for the 15th time!

It's not the kind of mission where you fight entire Russian battle groups. Rather, stealth is the aim of the game. There are bad guys out there and you'll have to achieve goals by certain times, without being counter-detected.

There are some opposed transits - the mission is set across a large part of Myanmar's navigable coastline - I think that's more like what submarining is.

I worked very hard on this mission, to make it as realistic as I could. It took me a very long time to research, plan, map-make, make the mission and test.

I have a problem. Sorry, I'm not familiar with DW that much just yet, but when I select the mission from the mission selection list and try to play it, I get an error that "No platform was selected to drive."
I don't know if that's an error in the mission or I am doing something wrong.

You'll need a mod that allows for a drivable Flt 2 688. :up:
To play the mission in stock DW, you'll need to change the Helena to a Flt 3 688 in the mission editor or else install one of the RA mods or the LWAMI 3.11 mod (available here in the downloads section). I also want to see if everything works in the last version of the Alpha Tau mod. So far, everything looks fine in RA 1.50 and I'll load the mission in LWAMI to check if it works.

Only one minor quibble so far, "shape course" isn't US-Navy-speak. "Set course" works better. :up:

Yes, thank you for that, ET2SN, I didn't realise that that would be an issue. :oops: Sorry for the mix-up.

I'm running RA 1.39 - Hopefully the mission is still 'upwardly compatible'.

And thank you for that, too. I tried hard to work in US naval language (you have no idea how hard it was for me to spell 'harbor' in the mission! :haha:)

I tried it with RA 1.49 and it is working.
