Today I will be showing you how to extract the Cold Waters artwork from the game files. A couple of months ago, a friend of mine, extracted them all for me and passed the skill down to me.

It is important to note that due to copyright concerns, you are NOT allowed to distribute the artwork, and this is why I can’t just post my copy.

Prerequisite: https://github.com/DerPopo/UABE/releases/tag/2.2stabled

This is UABE (Unity Asset Bundle Extractor). This is the tool we will be using to extract the Cold Waters artwork. Download the version that fits your computer; 32 or 64 bit. My PC runs a 64-bit operating system. To identify what type of operating system, follow the instructions below.

In the bottom left search bar

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/b3O4eFX2mtR0gAgP6UPNO0OFnD5DcER7-lDROAOe0_dYzuy_bGVvvRRddKDxDq-r4fCY007cMUjKdUHaEFykjyfSaryG14QjynnGfhgwCXrJq_RFD _gfIBo94APOK8xEFVBiK8xO
Type in “System Information”
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/3AA8rqLwX_oQGVTSku00bxRxyNJBB_Wkbch3jS_iJv9mSPxQGb 3IZN-zcEoUyw3D4BYsBbA3i3Yk5pkFiCSNCvkRWh6PjPUMTokW1daaD j6kMqsRlVFYQaEzPUo1NnBlvbgMmSkK
Click the System Information App

Once you have opened the System Information App, in the bottom search bar, type “System Type”

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/eBIK8Xb6vWWviozvEqIT4yV8AoxjLtvcmjxFFCAQMHaCXhp7zV q2HiNRdFDllvlnDrE2m7x3p62Ggk65-lv9RGNiEO-E4oxVqRtu7bWMWAGbycap8gUgL2yf2D4tsBOExCnKdoTd
Then hit “find”.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/aRHrVBVzhitq0lmoyJTypjXtgIPWrSe5cZF5W8uNYm7IyGKicf 2m8C0bRF_2nSwhZVWnAiuFHtT8yLfJl-NJdpWN13x8-MNwCkav5jt7YI8ewktbVc_ek3_UaRwqVwEA8Phg2sxL
This will tell you what type of operating system you have. I run a 64-bit operating system.
Important Note: If you are running an antivirus or security program on your computer, it may start yelling that it requires a scan. Simply ignore it, I run it on my computer, and lots of others run it on theirs. There are even YouTube videos on how to use the program. I am not responsible for any damage that happens to your computer or anything along those lines.

Once you have downloaded UABE, locate it in File Explorer. Extract the files out of the .zip to your preferred location.

I have all my modding tools kept in a folder called “Modding Tools”

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/RAW4cYH27ouRp5734daZJCk4nqLUAEGG2HdrYbVovyGpECCvhu K7c5B1YAVkQyZOXwErLjxZ5H6cKDWzPORSOMEk_WE0rbygnI_J Eb4eb5eBex0mXZHXLbsdCl6xe_0W7i15R040
I renamed my copy of UABE folder to “UABE”, so yours should look a little different, and you shouldn’t have the extra programs that I have. Open your UABE folder, and look for a program called “AssetBundleExtractor”.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/Gc2usc6sfEmv-ICJaVQ1WT6jUtbCc09xv1B-P7lgp_qDRLizAUVbvIuV8nSoT_yCo6zoCOYYm6VexpY6A7XuI6 8ogD-pGwUsEZqhSbZJ09wLyTRLQjbPzHGbS4bqMLeULiRo9FRq
Open that.

It should open up a program window that looks something like this:

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/6eQHYnmoKYnGKlINpwYNsStFlzU5Wa6oO0s-LYnoJdA771HzyJRbsEajoYPVZ5qkPSe5mWVNYuq0gL6MO4bo2B snIZlF2GSOt_04el65WhuiZjN3424fw-DQd9R2a06YITgBNPA5

Click “File” and then “Open”

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/VhsvS5de5ecKL1uCWpNfPCpArnzjkYML5JQcH0QeO969981EFQ ksb7uWmBEgsymD4FZ_xQ9Lou8LWnSTxgLxHKfLKlDehJp3-jjeGSaL9zcchjpUVweh0nHl1gx5vVuYVRHjQ3_x

Locate your Cold Waters game files, they should be in:

steam/steamapps/common/Cold Waters

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/8WbE8fWGlXTL4WCqvlWYUz8btWRE1KJgMu19Xpg-41l81a5qbDL34-Sb9r59-B-sJkP5WAMSbKQVZBZDn1Ux7YbsXdyIcNJ40tJdVYEctYl_nSMAr FuJPDaNCv3TUs0tByZcYsm2

If you do not know the location of your Steam folder, several people have it in their OS/Program Files (x86) This is my full path:

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/uW80jjO_o25-J8v_AqOPbZZJUDuwOlwE4yfXVf9bJ8BDfQQ0d0VXFlN2LvF9k8 Xyy5IKXAjFvIM6IXvh5ibc-rne1MPVD0uHvgv-9302AfW0EvVew0aU_PQ1LGTXfRdOmu0dh73l

Travel there in the AssetBundleExtractor window.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-3LYewf5BSfppcr00LImz7avytRMxO3Vslr-N6tin5Zh-xC2_LyoXi2UsE0VPCc0izUPW3dfYtzS40xjjKYt-rYSEN6kd18DzzOmJrPbEggSpUlAI29MsuUaEbJgiyhLkz21BTV E
You should see something that looks like this.

Open ColdWaters_Data in the AssetBundleExtractor. When you do, there should be a big list of files. You want to open “resources.assets”.

This is where it gets confusing. There are 3 files with similar names, only 1 is the correct one, “resources.assets”.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-MjehOjXiPiue_X33hYpDTvoHzrsY4qAADWDGUEa4wmkFDlJc33 xEieqX0qGDQ4KD8eA3Kd-T5V2rMEGADaXekIAm9pcGQhyJ3cs1h7xK4eu_CeGTkO2sY2WYr hfpiU3QbQQFXkw

Important notes:

The file name is not “resources.assets”, it is simply “resources”, “.assets” in the file type.
It is not a “resource” file.
It is not a “ress file”

This should hopefully be enough to narrow down the options to the correct file. If you opened up the wrong file, it will show this message:
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/vdGak2zzP410DTBsM4tRZniZKohgTYT4O_yUSCoXZASYflU7L3 Gr0XnVQqW278Lg1f5aGhbw187Y59MJGx8T94UqE9zKeoLZ9L9A krlIxWpTvFxLK7JpaNdfFLsLLRqC4Uhht6Al

Open “resources.assets”.

Note: As UABE tries to open the file, another window should pop up and close by itself. This is just showing you how close it is to decoding and displaying the file. It may take a minute or two if you're trying to open the file for the first time. It should look a little like this:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/CBo7nP0s3QOUzwTuFbbEUkhl5G2cgK1zLCncq9kTsXB1oxMji_-B85gYEWlDOwXBEc4c1TR7Y3q0utoBGFRTW9XS9N05yZOONpwT5 YpTA0Glm7Oz9ChNz7D0wWbvje1Q1C-e-dQm

Once you opened it up, it will show something like this:
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/srdgH_trP75ulOin7zcujjWOGS8mY1gBhbl16naTaK833fXjvX mGBh92MDijbcfHwTLbITCQNqyTPE-hHdNsTzqAPHzeMiubHGxXzstC2fuBWLrgWd8inSGCYHyz9urtL 3hYXInr

Now we can begin extracting the artwork. Click View/Search By Name

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/w66jnTtBUzyyZQMuKkQJ_H_EiPgrW6LFBoOeuhVVeRKtX9HR3V V68fg97ZcQLhrfxI1obe9EN9Cci4VNlJ2M9A2zS1q_rhkDYBut Yay0QmCiLYaZYFMa1VX-WZmVeChywY40D9Sh

And type in “pact surface raiders 2” It should look like this:
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/jBRw5jLx6Q9LHLxLDYuYJy-8utqp38_DupR-HV4DCjY89vYPwa-LlXqKN2HW4sdM3zC_Ma7hjiEgPLe9d8827UcNuymeSbh3nmmXL B74yQxsVdgDWsorqt23yG4WrfdGjCvq3OtZ
Hit “OK”. It should scroll down farther on the list, and show you the matching item.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/RsLEzt_rsEa7EwDP7LSlVAfqFl9QFC5zafgOhsR_0d8XBCgZT2 9kmzShxJG0mogUI49q7zIjQGGnG1PmxNR_qaSHoKhNM7_WmCbI y2xgmATQ9pZfEaHEt-cDYiqI1cRIEgFqPVo5

Select the item and hit “Plugins”. Make sure it shows “pact surface raiders 2” in the top right.
It should open up the Plugins window and give you three (3) options. Now you must hit “Export to .png” Then hit “OK”.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/zU5Jct2GbIrvz9brJn4SqC6VTdm34JoQIrLgZ_-eumyPC007w8RyNNwRqw_Z9JqP-iXnzE1tyspD5g8V3LmrFN-1HWZG5mlO1EFBZHnHy8Y7DepDFHJn7FkZ-1zkg00FEDVVDcD5
After hitting “OK” it will bring up a copy of File Explorer. Select where you would like to save it, I will be saving mine to my Cold Waters folder. Then hit “Save” to save it and complete the export.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/4N9dI7cTN3RrUct4kfuJwLeQe22fYS99ucZWY9Avm0L99rg-IJtKHUFpncRCwUNMRGcgM4_Gsw-JDlgAp-faYbiJVXwfz1h0qlYnrObpA9xoeneiasXZyv0JuLeDRttA-lykLgVF

And look, there it is as a .png!
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/qzR5xnylB3QHiIQlTIzxM-IeqK5fDFAzQ7VrVR3wQm986DxE9Y7AFnrGT4vqlX5-c_t77HQZRQGEjxblBm3YmLIR16MzHJf1KnxEQBBUVxjVMnOiLj V68FTQE43QxM8b7XtWoJP3

Now we just have to repeat this process another hundred or so times in order to get all the artwork. This is a list of all the known artwork hidden in resources.assets. Note that a couple names might be off. If you can’t find an image, try adding or removing a number, in most cases it will be a one (1). I also suggest going back up to the very top of the assets list to make searching easier.

*Sorry for the weird format, it didn't like the way I typed it in Google Docs.

And thats it, nothing else to it! If someone really wants it I can post a list of the black and white photos too. Once again a big thank you to HobbitJack for originally doing this, and please DO NOT distribute this, it is still the property of Killerfish Games. Also, if I missed any of the artwork, let me know and I can add it to the list!

:ping: Best of luck and happy 2021! :ping:
