View Full Version : Diesel engines get damaged for no reason?
Hi, I just started a career with a type 2 gwx3 & commander + cosmetic mods such as uboat compilation, effects etc. For some reason I will be sailing and for no reason like no collisions, no attacks from enemies no nothing my engines will get damaged, ALWAYS its the port engine first then the starboard. I can fix them when they are yellow but they always get damaged again for no reason as I sail peacefully and if they become red its game over of course. Any ideas what might be the source of this problem? Could it be time compression? last time it happened I was cruising the nord sea at 1024 time compression.
Certainly mod compatibility involved...
Try mods one by one until you get the culprit.

You can not operate the diesel engine for a long time at maximum speed. Of course, time compression greater than 512 is also not recommended. Patch 1.6 can do this.
19. Diesel Damages Fix
Risk of random diesel damages when agonizing diesels with flank speed.

Mod issues would affect repair and repair times as Fifi has indicated.
Also have to agree with Anvar1061, the 1024 TC is high and he may have been attacked by planes and they are long gone by the time he gets down to 1 TC. Saw that a lot in WAW with new guys. It could also be mines, that has happen to me around Helgo radius of about 50/100 km. Planes and mines can be issues to staying afloat.
Are you running flank speed for extended periods of time?
What mods are you using, can you post them.
Good hunting,

Yea I think I've ran flank speed for extended periods of time. I was not aware that this might be a problem for the engines. I will try it out and let you know if anything comes up.

Running flank speed for long time can break engines only with Hsie patch diesel fix activated. Not using this patch option, you can run flank speed until out of fuel!

If you are using H.SIE patched sh3.exe one of the realism effects it adds is causing engine damage if you spend too long at Flank speed. Going into x1024 compression at Flank speed will definitely cause your engines to be damaged.
All you can do is travel at a lower speed, the one below Flank is fine and doesn't slow the game down noticably. I only use the top speed when making immediate manoeuvres to avoid depth charges, move around a convoy or for crash diving.

The best solution is sailing at standard speed with the time compression at 512 max zooming on the map . I personally do not like 1024

Fwiw you won't get air attacks at 512 tc.

Wasn't there also a "sabotage" option that gave random failures?

To be frank, will have to go back through the files for the h.sie patch... Sooo, not sure about h.sie, but... I do recall that option being available, if you check marked it, in the options area for SH3 Commander...

Sabotage & malfunctions are in SH3 Commander but they didn't destroy the engine(s) just hampered them slightly.
Usually by making flank speed unusable.
H.sie's patch has an option that will destroy engines over time under the right conditions.
