I am pretty much a newbie on sub sims and I noticed that CW is almost 4 years olf. Is it still worth paying the full price for the game?

I personally think so honestly. Some folks might not like that it’s not as intensive as Dangerous Waters or Silent Hunter series where you play each sub position and run the boat yourself mostly. Its an easier entry into Modern Day Nuke Boats and basic tactics
without having to know how to operate all the positions yourself. Epic Mod is a must if you do get it.
If you ever played the older red storm rising on DOS
It’s just like that.

Is it best to run this through Steam or should I do stand alone?

I think it is only available on steam. That’s where I have it. Never had any issues and it’s easy to install any mods.

I downloaded Epic Mod 2.23 on Steam Cold Waters View Discussions area. I’m sure you probably can find it on here as well. I know there is another mod called Playable Subs also if you prefer whatever that one has.

Gog.com has a DRM free version of the game
