Hello everyone! Some of you may have seen me before, but honestly I have stayed relatively silent through the years. The truth is, I deeply enjoy subsims, and I have always loved the discussions on this great community. So being a programming major at my local college, I wanted to contribute to this genre by making a new game for a long time. I have been planning for a long time and am currently developing a new sub sim/arcade game set in the Pacific Ocean on a Balao class submarine during WW2. The project’s current name is “Under The Pacific”. It will be a mixture of 3D and 2D graphics, and it will be mostly casual, made for Windows OS. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have about this upcoming game. Im going to try very hard to make it the best quality possible, as this combines my passion for both programming and submarine games. It will not be too heavy on the simulation aspect and will be leaning more towards the arcade genre. I will have a screenshot ready very soon.

GREAT! :Kaleun_Thumbs_Up: Cannot wait!
Is this like a campaign kind of game?
If it does, will it have a campaign like SH4?
Is it single-player, or will it be like the game Wolfpack?
This will be the second WWII American Submarine simulator that I will have. Since it is a new one, this will be exciting!
Wish you luck on your journey!

It will be simple at first, with randomized convoy encounters with randomized sizes. It will most definitely be single-player with possibly a campaign in a later update
Thank you! I am excited as well

New development update: working on CO’s Quarters! (Sorry about lighting, I did not get it just right yet). Why is this necessary for the game? Well In order to explain, I would have to explain the mechanics, which I will do in a separate post later!

So as I promised, here is an explanation of the game mechanics! Also a mock-up of the UI design I plan to implement. The game mechanics will be similar to 688(I) Hunter/Killer. To go between each compartment, you have to click on the compartment you want to go to. In each compartment there are buttons you press that have functions relevant to the compartment you are in (periscope and launch torpedos in Conning Tower, torpedo management in Torpedo Room, etc.). The 3D image is static (for now at least) and there will be arcade style mechanics too. Keep in mind that this is not an official screenshot and the design is subject to change. Questions, anyone?

This project has is still actually alive. It has just been moving at a snail's pace becuase I am the only one working on it, and I am constantly encountering problems. The latest stable release, 0.21.0.0, is currently available for download on Windows:

Thanks for the welcome back! It really has been two years? That's hard to wrap my head around. Between coursework, and well, work, I admit I have not had much time to work on Under The Pacific. But I love submarines just like everyone else here, and wanted to give something to the genre. Also, I sincerely feel like the US Nay fleet submarines are not represented very well in the Subsim community. Of course you have Silent Hunter I and IV, but we all know everyone only plays IV for the U-Boat missions. This project has been a passion of mine, and it has helped get me make it through some tough times. I really hope it can be enjoyed by more more than just me one day. Of course, there is still plenty of work to be done before then.

Since I was last seen, here are the details of what happened to the project. If you have already downloaded version 0.15.8 or below, you have to re-download it through the store due to overhuals I did bwhind the scenes. What hapened was
0.20.0.0
In this version, I fixed many things, added/updated objects, and updates underlying systems so that they are are usable. I was also able to fix an issue that caused me to delay updates for almost 2 years. It was a major overhaul and got the game actually looking nice and bug-free
0.21.0.0
You can now rig control for red, and white.
Fixed the fore and after torpedo rooms .
Implemented Mark 14 torpedoes (The reliable ones 1943+).
Re-added the old conning tower (only as a placeholder).
Made preparations to implement the new conning tower when its ready .
Simulated the back-lighting on equipment gauges in the control room.
Fixed the berths in the crew's quarters/after battery room .
Fixed gravity (finally).
Ignored the maneuvering room (as usual).
Fixed collisions and collision detection
Just some general tweaking and preperations
Latest update, today (12/22/2024) verision 0.22.0.0
You can now control the dive plane wheels.
You can now close the bulkhead doors.
Fixed some geometry
Added some rudimentary occlusion culling. Every little bit helps.
All in all, much work has been done since I last posted anything here, and more work will continue.
