Hi,

First of all, excellent mod, I'll test it in my next game.
I just saw the video presentation, and one thing surprised me: the update of the distance by the TDC.

I know it's a feature that the American submarines had, but for the Germans it's a different story.
I'm playing SH5 right now with the TWOS mod, and I have to update the distance before every shot. Otherwise, it stays at the last indicated value.
I'm no expert in the field, but this is the only detail that jumped out at me.

Beautiful work Ruby, TY for your efforts. Like one of the previous postings said, I am having more fun than the law allows playing this game, and this mod should be a wonderful- immersion enhancing addition. Will add in as soon as I start a new scenario. Perhaps along with new update (fingers crossed.)
Happy Hunting......

That’s spot on. Whereas the American device had a position keeper, the German one did not. However, the German one had a feature called “Lage laufend”, which in this mod, and in reality, was the switch at the bottom to tell the computer to update AOB as the bearing changed (ie the optics were moved).

The Americans use their TDC as a tool to refine the solution, whereas the Germans used theirs simply as a calculating device for the gyro angle. The Germans tried to shoot at the smallest Gyro angles possible, thereby eliminating range from the equation.

Okay, that makes me feel better. The German system automatically updates only the AOB and not the distance like the American system.
Ruby2000, you'd have to change that to have a historically valid system. Sorry

I am sorry to bother, but the mod does not appear in the mods section of the launcher. I already subscrived to the mod and also change to unstable in the beta section of the proprieties menu in the steam launcher (do not know if that is required).

Any tutorial how I have to do it?

Jeez, 4500m running parallel at 10 knots!
I am having an issue when firing salvos with the TDC, the second eel runs very slowly and seems to have the wrong data compared to the first one which runs correctly. I also have an issue when lowering the periscope below the waterline because the periscope bearing starts changing but I am not moving it left or right and so the gyro starts rotating drastically. not sure if it was just the game having some issues, will test again soon But thanks very much really enjoying the TDC!

HI Sparkcat,

maybe you have two different torps?! Then you have to choose the speed from the slowest torp. And don't forget to set the speed in the torp-UI as well.

I have to reiterate how impressed I am with your work on this. And I understand there will also be a “mathematical model “done in the future, which is also amazing.

One question on the turn correction (Drehgeschwindigkeitsverbesserung). How will this be implemented in game? Since our computer model dials turn infinitely fast, and the gyro angle updates infinitely fast, is this for when the mathematical, mechanical version is implemented?

NEW VERSION: v1.7.2
Added:
- 24 kn. torpedo speed mode

Fixed:
- Compatibility with B126 (Unfortunately, in B126 we had to simplify the lighting system to the previous. Now it is recommended to use the game version: B127 (with full mod funсtionallity))

Check the version before use. If the mod does not update automatically try
re-subscribe to it in Steam Workshop

NEW VERSION: v1.7.3

Added:
- Std. table

Changed:
- Parallax correction calculating algorithm (now TDC-model simulates also equivalent point of fire, so parallax correction angle now matches the real one)
- Lighting mode syncronized also with current U-Boat depth now (while submerged, TDC will be in dark mode, nevertheless of the current day time)

Fixed:
- Mod interface hierarchy relative to the game UI (fixes periscope lock/unlock UI overlapping bug)

I’m noticing the TDC is not taking own course changes into account when Lage Laufend is switched on. Will this be changed in the future?

Ruby2000

Hi derstosstrupp,

it is already taken into account. If you want your own course changes to be taken into account, click with LMC on the dial "own course".

I’m sorry I’m still not quite sure I understand. So once Lage laufend was switched on, I could then change course at will and the AOB setting would not change assuming I kept the wire on the target. With this mod, as I’m changing course, my AOB is not taking my course changes into account. Let’s take an example. Let’s say the target bearing is 270. Let’s say it’s bow right 90. I put the wire on the target, I set bow right 90, set follow, set Lage laufend. Now let’s say I then turn 90° to port to put my bow on the target. What the real device would do is take my course change into account such that when I arrived at the new course, and put the wire back on the target it would still show about 90 right. When I just tried it in game, after that turn the AOB was 180°, it turned AOB while I was turning, which is not correct.

I’m not sure what own course dial you mean, there doesn’t appear to be any such dial.

I really hope it’s just something I’m overlooking. Because this was a crucial feature of the German TDC and why it was so effective.

HI derstosstrupp,

this is an extract from our TDC-manual, which will be published soon.

------------------------
In the second scenario we follow the target ship on a parallel course. ‘We plan to attack the target from a specific direction. We have chosen a parallel attack with the target bearing 270 degrees.
There comes a moment when we are 100% sure that the AOB of the target ship is 90 degrees. We enter these values into the TDC and click with LMC on the own course to set the initial (current) U-boat course.
Then activate "Follow AOB" and deactivate "Follow target bearing" in the TDC. The bearing is set to 270 degrees.
Due to certain conditions, e.g. water currents, manoeuvring, etc. the boat changes course twice again e.g. 15 degrees to the right.
However, we do not change our opinion about the 270-degree bearing attack! ‘
To avoid having to update the AOB, which we are no longer sure about.
Since the boat was manoeuvred and changed course, we use the scale "own course ". Whenever the boat changes course, the TDC automatically adds the value of the course angle (= course change) of the AOB to the target ship.
And even if the course was changed several times in relation to the target ship, we still have the correct value of the AOB.
We wait for the target ship to reach a bearing of 270 degrees and fire!

http://www.dev.wewh.de/ub/pics/own_course.jpg

http://www.dev.wewh.de/ub/pics/own_course_dial.jpg

In German this dial is called "Skala Kurswinkel" (eigener Kurs)

To activate the dial you have to click on it with LMC. After that the course deviations are taken into account by the AOB.

The U-boat turns to the right, AOB + course change
The U-boat turns to the left, AOB – course change

To install this mod in non-Steam UBOAT you need to download and set up SteamCMD.

SteamCMD can be downloaded here: https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/SteamCMD#Downloading_SteamCMD

We need to extract the steamcmd.exe into it's own directory.

Let's asume we use the following directory:

C:\SteamCMD
C:\SteamCMD\steamcmd.exe
steamcmd.exe can be run from the Command Prompt but let's create a batch file instead so we can update the mod later with a few simple clicks.

Create a batch file update_mods.bat in the same directory you put the steamcmd.exe

C:\SteamCMD
C:\SteamCMD\steamcmd.exe
C:\SteamCMD\update_mods.bat

with the following content:

steamcmd +login anonymous +workshop_download_item 494840 2282199115 +quit
This runs SteamCMD and does the following things:

login anonymous - We don't need to login with a real user to download workshop items

workshop_download_item <app id> <workshop item id> - Download the specified workshop item

quit - Quit SteamCmd

Okay, so now let's run our update_mods.bat batch file. It should take a while to update SteamCMD. This will add a lot of files into our directory. After updating itself, it will download the Real TDC mod.

The Real TDC mod will be downloaded into the following directory:

C:\SteamCMD\steamapps\workshop\content\494840\2282 199115\
Now the only thing left is to copy this directory into the UBOAT Mods folder.
For UBOAT from GOG.com the Mods folder is located here:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\LocalLow\Deep Water Studio\UBOAT\Mods\
But let's not copy the Real TDC mod folder from SteamCMD into the UBOAT Mods folder but rather create a link (or Directory Junction like Windows likes to call it) to save some disk space and avoid copying the folder everytime the mod was updated through SteamCMD.

First, delete the Mods folder. We will create a link to the Steam workshop folder, instead.

Open a Command Prompt and use the following commands to go into the UBOAT Mods folder and create a junction to the Real TDC Mods folder inside SteamCMD directory structure:

CD %APPDATA%\..\LocalLow\Deep Water Studio\UBOAT
MKLINK /J Mods C:\SteamCMD\steamapps\workshop\content\494840
That's it. The Real TDC Mod should now be available in your non-Steam UBOAT.

steamcmd +login anonymous +workshop_download_item 494840 2282199115 +quit

Open a Command Prompt and use the following commands to go into the UBOAT Mods folder and create a junction to the Real TDC Mods folder inside SteamCMD directory structure:

CD %APPDATA%\..\LocalLow\Deep Water Studio\UBOAT\Mods
MKLINK /J TheRealTDC C:\SteamCMD\steamapps\workshop\content\494840\2282 199115
That's it. The Real TDC Mod should now be available in your non-Steam UBOAT.

/SOLVED/
Hi, I'm new here and also new to Uboat. I tried game and find out lacking realism in form of TDC, navigation .... Luckily find TDC and Compass mod option. However I have hard times to make it work.

I'm on non steam 2022.1 Patch 19.
I manually downloaded mods from steam by How to install this mod for non-Steam users post from telephono. (THANKS )
But no effect.
...
It looks to me, i'm missing something obvious for more experienced user.
Is there some way to debug what is going on ?

Thanks for any help.

edit: SOLVED it was some problem with launcher . Reinstall solved it.
