View Full Version : JSGME Mod conflict
Im trying to install a Mod and I get this, can someone point me in the right direction to fix this, to enable both mods or cant I?
Ty :)https://snipboard.io/gB8Ydx.jpg
sh.sdl is the file were all the sound file used in game are listed with their properties. Many mods have a copy of it.
Check the last edited dates of the two conflicting files. The more recent copy will have the higher probability to include sounds from previously released mods. If you have doubts, open both files using S3ditor (http://s3d.skwas.com/) or TDW's Sh.sdl editor/viewer (https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?p=1692896#post1692896) and check which one has all the entries from the other.
On the other hand I see that you are using some optional sub-mods from the TWoS supermod. You shouldn't use them if you have no TWoS installed, and if you have TWoS installed, you shouldn't use many of the old mods I see in your mod list, because they have already been integrated in TWoS. If you overwrite TWoS files with them, you risk messing your game up :yep:
Ok Gap thanx for the info.
Yes I have TWoS 2.2.17 installed.
Im pretty new to the game so its hard to know what is already installed in TWoS Mod.
I think I read somewhere that the FX Update by DarkWraith was included, im not completely sure.
Im only using the seven Mods currently, the others I have just tried to see what they do really but the game is running fine at the moment.
Again thanx for the info :)
I used the tool to check both sh.sdl files and the FX Update by DarkWraith is the later file.
The other file from the DBSM Speech Mod just adds some new files to the Sound/Speech so could I just add the speech folder and overwrite if I wanted the different Speech files from the other Mod while running the FX Update Mod?
I don't know, im just trying to get some custom Voices for the game that no other Mod im running seems to have.

My pleasure SYMO!
Check TWoS' documentation. The (many) mods merged by Vecko in his super-mod should be clearly stated there. Most of them have been tweaked to work well together, so installing one of those mods on top of TWoS might be worthless at best, or even counter-productive :yep:

Before TWoS was released FX Update was a 'must' mod, so I believe it has been included in the megamod.

In the years many DBSM sound mods have been released. I think that one of the most complete ones was Stormy`s DBSM collection (https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?p=1310801#post1310801) and I also believe that some of its features are in TWoS already. Anyway I have just downloaded (from this link (http://www.mediafire.com/file/qjn00gdjyn3/DBSM_Speech_1_0_4.rar/file)) The DB Speech Mod that you want to use, and it doesn't seem to contain any sh.sdl, but only sound files. :hmmm:
Replacing TWoS/stock sound files should be safe. At worst the new files won't be used in game or they will cause some minor audio glitch, but they won't cause your game to break apart and your career to be irremediably compromised :03:
Ok, the DBSM Speech 1.0.5 Mod I have tried has [Data/Sound] a bunch of .wav files which are all the sounds and a sh.sdl file which conflicts the one from the FX Update mod in the picture I included earlier.
Also [Data/Sound/Speech] folder with the Officer Folders and new sound files inc, which are sound bites from Das Boot. I like the sound of these because they fill in some of the silence and give some authenticity to the inner sub environment. I will check the DBSM Mod you d/led.
Secondly, if indeed the FX Update Mod is included then the problem is mute and I can just run the sound Mod without any probs. But I will check the TWoS Docos to see what is included.
Again appreciate your help on this, have a top day mate :Kaleun_Salute:
Ok, the DBSM Speech 1.0.5 Mod I have tried...
In your screenshot below the version number is 1.0.4 , and I have downloaded that version

If sh.sdl is included, that version must include some new sound, but they won't be used unless they are scripted. Does the mod contain any crew script?

What do you mean by "mute"? FX Update is (mostly) a graphic mod enhancing SH5's effects (fires, smokes, flares, tracers, lights, etc). Some of these effects include sounds too, but they are not the most notable feature :yep:

You are the welcome
Yeah the Zip file says 1.0.5 but the folder in the Zipfile says 1.0.4 I have downloaded both 1.0.5 Zip and the 1.0.4 Zip and they are indeed different.
The 1.0.5 has more Officer folders in Sound/Speech.
I don't see a Crew Script anywhere.
The problem is mute as in it isn't a problem due to the fact I wont need the FX Update Mod to be active if it is included in TWoS Mod so then I wont get any conflict with the sh.sdl files by tring to include both the FX mod and the DBSM Speech Mod.
I tried the Stormys DBSM Collection link but its dead.

What a mess lol!

There is still a problem. You can't simply overwrite TWoS' sh.sdl with the one from DBSM Speech Mod v1.0.5. If you do, many non-stock sounds featured in TWoS won't play, and you also risk frequent CTD's. On the other hand DBSM Speech Mod's copy of sh.sdl is pretty useless, because if it adds new sounds to the game, but crew scripts are not updated to use those sounds, they won't be used anyway.
If you just want to use that sound mod, what you can do is scrapping its sh.sdl before you enable it via JSGME. You could as well remove from it all the sound files (file extensions .wav and .ogg) whose names don't match exactly the names of TWoS/stock sound files. If you keep them they won't do any harm, but they won't be used anyway. All the remaining files will overwrite TWoS/stock files, so you will probably get some benefit from them, even though I think that many sounds used in TWoS are from the same movie.
I tried the Stormys DBSM Collection link but its dead.
The Subsim download center has Stormys DBSM Collection's main mod (https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=5417) THEBERBSTER's tutorial page (https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=2182950&postcount=1) has links to the main mod and to several optional mods. In the same page you will also find detailed instructions on how to make them compatible with TWoS and with other popular mods :yep:
Ok thanx for this info. Currently im not seeing/hearing any probs but you know more than me on all this.
So im guessing this DBSM Mod wasn't made with TWoS in mind, or before it was created then.
From my ears it seems the original sound is still there but after that sound there are other sounds directly from Das Boot that come in, people talking in the back ground, the order being echoed by others etc etc.
Is it possible that the new sounds use the same names as the original ones in TWoS but have been modded, or new sounds named the same as the stock sound and the sh.sdl file points to this sound mod to get the sounds from in JSGME without actually changing the files in TWos by removing them or overwriting? Im guessing ofc.
Ill look into what you explained, figuring out how these Mods work in TWoS is all new to me and there are so many around and its hard not to want to see what they do, but ofc there are risks in doing so.
Again thankyou for your help gap, have a top day mate.:salute:

I believe that mod was created long before the mods that TWoS is based on were released in their final version. Nowadays you won't meet many players here still using it.

sh.sdl is just the archive where all the SH5 sounds are listed together with their acoustic properties (volume, audible range, pitch, doppler effect, looping, etc). Any new sound file must be logged there for the game to be able using it, but the fact that a sound is in sh.sdl doesn't necessarily mean that it will be used. For a sound to be actually played, it must be called by a script and/or by a controller that will trigger it when certain conditions are satisfied. It is well possible that some stock sounds that you replaced with the ones from the DBSM Speech Mod are non longer used in TWoS because the scripts and controllers which called them were removed or modified to use other sounds, but you should ask Vecko on that.
Ill look into what you explained, figuring out how these Mods work in TWoS is all new to me and there are so many around and its hard not to want to see what they do, but ofc there are risks in doing so.
Yes, as a beginner the chances that you spoil your game by adding random mods are rather high.
My suggestion is that you start playing and enjoying TWoS as it si "out of the box", while keeping an eye on the forum. Once you begin understanding the game and its files, you can start customizing it according your tastes by gradually adding some other mods to your game.
The TWoS package contains many optional mods that are perfectly compatible with the main mod. Moreover, there are some recent small mods by other modders which were created keeping TWoS compatibility in mind, so you know that using them is more or less safe.
Conversely, most of the mods of the past have been already customized and merged in TWoS, while the ones that have not been included in it, have been discarded for a reason. Unless you know exactly what you are doing, messing with them will be equal to searching for problems :yep:
Again thankyou for your help gap, have a top day mate.:salute:
Thank you buddy, you too :salute:
Yeah I have quit using it and like you said im getting to know TWoS more before I make changes.
I have a few little mods in there but that's it.
Yes as a beginner you start to play a game and find out there are so many mods and its overwhelming yet at the same time you want to try them all LOL.
Game is running really well now and actually im hearing sounds similar to the DBSM Mod in game now even though I have quit using it.
All sounds are TWoS stock again.
Also what file type is a script file?
Cheers man :Kaleun_Cheers:

Look for them in the 'Scripts' folder, file extension .py and .AIX. You can open them in notepad. I think they use python commands, if you know that language :)
Ok thanx gap :salute:

Instead of starting a new thread I thought id just ask you.
I finished the Baltic operations and docked at Kiel and im being given the same patrol again, I don't see any other ticks on the map apart from the one ive just completed.

Sorry SYMO,
I don't know the answer to your question. If no one else will answer here in the next few hours, try asking in the TWoS thread :salute:

Hi SYMO
The most likely problem is that you have docked before the next mission has become available.
You cannot dock before you see the next mission appear on your map in GMT time not Nautical time.
If this is the case load the mission before your docking one use the Esc key and go to save game and delete the last save and resume your game until the time is right to dock.
Peter
Thankyou men :)
I actually sorted it out last night, I selected to go back on the UBoat in dock and I still had the docking icon "the anchor flashing" up top so I hit that again and selected end mission. Back in dock I spoke to the Officer and now all is good.
Yes I had docked on the 03/09 and tha Baltic Ops weren't due to end till 04/09 so I will keep this in mind.
Thanx again for the help, it sure makes things easier knowing there are people who know this stuff and are actually willing to help a noob player. Cheers everyone and have a top day :Kaleun_Cheers:
