Hello everyone. My SH5 just updated through UPlay and now when I launch the game with TWoS mod through the UPlay client the game runs fine up until I either click continue campaign or try to load a save. The game makes an attempt to load but crashes every time. Thanks for any help in advance.

You should try to start new campaign, as update isn’t probably save compatible :salute:

Thank you for your response. An even newer update just downloaded that was 3GB.

When I try to start a new campaign the game doesn't even try to load and crashes immediately. Also since the update I've noticed that the Ubisoft logo when you first start the game has been appearing. Now it could be that I'm going crazy but I don't believe that was happening before the update. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing both the game and the mod but nothing has changed.

I know that this is most likely an easy fix but I am inexperienced when it comes to mods with this game and any help would be appreciated.

I would suggest starting again from scratch.
Uninstall the game from the control panels program and features.
Use a registry cleaner.

I have the same problem. This afternoon Uplay downloaded an update for Silent Hunter 5, since then TWoS doesn't work.
It crashes when I try to load in game, even when with new Campaign.

I've tried a clean reinstall, but the Generic Patcher is unable to patch SH5, as it has different version, than expected. It is still 1.2 though. Looks like Ubisoft released a silent patch that broke the mod.

Vanilla SH5 works without problems.

"Silent patch" ?:) No , I don't think this is the case. Ubisoft stopped updating SH games looong time ago. You guys should find the way to prevent the uplay to mess up with your game files after you install and patch the game to official v1.2.0...:yep:

Happy hunting! :salute:

I'm aware that they stopped patching SH5 years ago. But they still might dish out a recompiled binary for compatibility reasons. Maybe they want to bring SH5 on uplay+ (SH3 and SH4 are there, SH5 is missing), and needed to make a patch because of that. A simple binary recompile with different framework version is all it takes to break the binary compatiblity required for the generic patcher.

I'm not sure what more than deleting the whole directory, downloading the game, shutting down uplay and starting the TWoS installer I can do. The SH5.exe is different than the Generic Patcher expects.

I installed the mod 5 days ago the same way, without any issues. Today I come home, and after a while I see a pop-up on uplay "Silent Hunter 5 is ready to be played", which means that uplay downloaded something. After this SH5 refused to launch and crashed on the initial loading screen.

After I freshly reinstalled the game and the mod the game crashes after I try to load into any mission.

I just tried re-installing everything once again and noticed that while using the generic file patcher to patch the game, a pop up appears roughly saying: 'version error. A version of sh5 is a different version than expected. Patch: independent engine controls change 2. Reason: Bytes read does not equal bytes expected by patch'. This is the only error that appears. After I press enter the patching continues as normal. It is probably also important to note that when patching is completed there are only 8 patches rather than the expected 9.

I feel as though I've tried everything at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am not certain this would work for an SH5 UPlay version, but I have copied my SH4 UPlay and my Steam SH5 and SH3 to different folders before I patch and / or mod them (SH4 does not have any exe patches). I leave the installed copy of the game as-is. Also, it is important to NOT install into a Program Files folder. But after I install the Stock game, I then copy the entire install inside of the game folder, and paste those contents into a folder of my own choosing elsewhere on the hard drive. Then I do my editing there, and the original install then is the one that the UPlay or Steam app can mess with all they want to. I also do not use the SH4 UPlay shortcut, starting directly from the SH4.exe file. There might be different security on the SH5 game though, and that might not work, I don't know... :salute:

There is a setting in Uplay to stop games updating which might help.
You cam also set Uplay to go offline.

Hello All, I appreciate your efforts to try and help. Unfortunately after trying everything I can think of (re-installing UPlay, logging into UPlay in offline mode, installing TWoS without an internet connection, installing SH5 on a different drive, rebooting PC, re-installing SH5 several times using different methods, disabling auto patches, etc) it is still not working.

I find it very odd that SH5 would download a 3GB patch almost 10 years after release. Does anybody know why and what that could be?

My theory is that the 3GB patch messed with some files (duh) and now TWoS isn't compatible (or doesn't think it's compatible) with SH5. Also just to confirm, my SH5 game is version 1.2.0 which is the correct version I believe for TWoS.

Yep, I have the same behaviour.

When I get home I plan to do another fresh reinstall, and then make a checksum from the SH5.exe, this should let us know if ubisoft really updated the executable, or there is something else at play. ;)

Is there anything we can do about that? Or do we just have to wait for a new update either by Ubisoft or TWoS team? Also do you know why it doesn't seem to be affecting others? Is it a UPlay thing or region related? My apologies for all the questions but if that's the case I'll probably just purchase another copy on Steam and install TWoS on there.

Hi Guys
The SH5 game only installs part of the game this can be seen after you install SH5 and go to the Program Files (x86) directory and open up the game launcher only a small amount of the files are showing.
When you update the game from v1.0.5.0 to to v1.2.0 the rest of the files some 62 complete the setup.
The problems arise when you start the game from the SH5.exe and you run into problems and Uplay decides not to co-operate.

My suggestion is to go to the Control Panels Program and Fatures and uninstall the Ubisoft/Uplay Game Launcher.
You now have the option to install a completely independent game launcher in any drive and folder of your choice, which in my case I use this one in D:\Ubisoft, the folder before the main Silent Hunter 5 main game folder.
SH5 Game Launcher Install It Anywhere On Any Drive (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=2208573&postcount=97) > Includes Download Link

If you now open up the game launcher and go to the first game launcher application which is the 32 bit one (not the 64 bit also showing) you can change it by going to properties and then run it as an administrator.

I believe there is some miscommunication. I think for all of us vanilla SH5 runs fine. When re-installing vanilla SH5 it seems to automatically update to version 1.2.0 (or some sort of hybrid that only some players recently got) without any user input which I think is the issue. The problems start when we install TWoS mod.

For me personally, when I start the patcher to install the mod, only 8 patches work. there is a pop up for the 9th saying: 'version error. A version of SH5 is a different version than expected. Patch: independent engine controls change 2. Reason: Bytes read does not equal bytes expected by patch'.

The rest of the installation goes fine. TWoS even starts and gets to the main menu. The problem is that when we press continue campaign or new campaign it causes an instant CTD. The thing with UPlay is that you have to be online to download and install the game, so the game gets automatically updated upon installation.

The seemingly obvious issue is that SH5 has been updated for some players and is now incompatible with TWoS. Which sucks...

My apologies if you completely understand what is going on and it is my error but hopefully this clears up some misunderstandings.

For me when I start the independent launcher it starts off looking like UPlay from 2012 and then immediately updates to a slightly newer looking UPlay and then once more to the current UPlay. All before I can even log into my account. I may have done something incorrectly but I am unsure.

Hi Zeebo
Yes a bit of mis-communication my apologies for that.
If the game loads to the main menu and shows v1.2 in the top right corner then your game is installed correctly and will work when modded.

when I start the patcher to install the mod, only 8 patches work. there is a pop up for the 9th saying: 'version error. A version of SH5 is a different version than expected. This error occurs because one of the patches has been incorrectly installed.
Each of the 9 patches is looking for the Silent Hunter5 main game folder.
Until this is fixed you cannot proceed with the game.

In the main game folder open the folder TDW_GenericPatcher_v_168_0
Open the Patches folder, no patches should be showing here.
The SH5 folder should be showing all 9 patches.

I have tried a repair from Uplay - which worked, but is just the Vanilla game now.
I'll try re-patching TWoS and see what happens.

For example C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5

Can you confirm when your vanilla game loads to the main menu you can see v1.2 in the top right hand corner?
This needs to be done with a clean SH5 installation and not with TWoS having been tried to install on it.

I have a UPlay SH4, but with my Steam SH5 in the same folder, and UPlay automatically picked-up my SH5 Steam install, and offered to put it there when I did the inital SH4 Gold install when this Win10 laptop was purchased. I have everything in the "C:\Ubisoft \Ubisoft Game Launcher" folder, which I made during the install, and had deleted the "Program Files (x86)\" portion from the path. I have had no ill effects from UPlay (as of yet), and I just did a "test" re-install yesterday. As soon as I did my first SH5 start after the re-install, the game did its "update" check, and UPlay downloaded its "update" (from September of this year). Afterwards, I did a TWoS install / activation, and everything went as expected. I would suspect install "path" issues myself also. May-haps if the Launcher or the game is in Program Files, it then "helps" the player by "tagging" the SH5.exe file??... :hmmm: :salute:

Hi Taff
IIRC the Dvd only installs to version 1.0.5.0 and cannot make the connection to Ubisoft which it is looking for because Ubisoft no longer supports SH5.
Only by using the GameUpdater does the game get updated to v1.2.0 by the necessary files downloaded from Uplay.

Hi Harmer
Your SH5 game is installed in a restricted directory for 32 bit applications.
While the game launcher will install by default into this directory Program Files (x86) you should avoid installing the game there if possible.
Installing in a simple way like this C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5 there is less chance of complications.

Hi Harmer
Moved SH5 to another drive. Do you mean by move you un-installed and re-installed in a different place?

If you are saying you moved the game by using copy or cut and paste then you will get an error message because your SH5 saved game folder does not recognize that the game has been moved.

Uninstalled Uplay. Uplay is essential and cannot legitimately be removed but can be played offline.

As you had both the game and the game launcher in the same folder uninstalling both would be way to go.
A fresh install of both will stop any likely corruptions being left over.

Check that your SH5.exe is showing version 1.2

Just to add, I would recommend applying the CCleaner program after the un-install of all the suggested SH5 and Uplay programs, BEFORE starting a new SH5 installation away from the "Program Files (x86)" folder on the C: drive

A very important part of the CCleaner program is the tab that allows a clean out of all the Registry items that get left behind after the un-install.

Apologies for the late response, gentlemen.
@Peter - yes, I simply moved the installed game to another drive.

So I will uninstall Uplay & SH5 and use CCcleaner as recommended by you guys. Once I've completed that, will do a clean install (but not in the x86 prog folder) and then apply: http://www.mediafire.com/file/hvdw0i8ranzs6kz/The_Wolves_of_Steel_2.2_SH5_Expansion_Pack_v2.2.16 _uPlay_Test.exe/file

Thanks for quickly taking the time out to help.

Edit: Unfortunately this hasn't worked. If I launch through the SH5.exe, it asks for my CD key (which I lost ages ago). If I launch through Uplay, I get the usual ctd after the splash screen with the small radar icon bottom right has loaded.

Hi Harmer
You may have installed the 9 patches but only 8 have been installed correctly.

If your game was previous working by which I mean the game loaded to the main menu you should be able to do the following.
Google Uplay
Go to Uplay Home.
Click on the download to install Uplay.
This will probaby install a desktop shortcut.
Open Uplay and look for My Games I can't remember but there will be options available which should you be able to see.
Once you have found this you will be able to start your game and it will be updated.
The next time you play you will be able to start from the SH5.exe
Any previously working SH5 game will have created a Uplay account.

Always make sure that after you install and update your game it can load to the game main menu.

I'm coming back to SH5 after a few years, and am affected by the Uplay update as well.

I did a fresh Uplay install using "The Wolves of Steel 2.2_SH5 Expansion Pack_v2.2.16_uPlay_Test.exe" Patch.

During the patch I get the following error.

https://i.imgur.com/oKLXtgum.jpg

When starting a new campaign, the game CtDs.
So for me at least, the WoS Test patch isn't working.

Going to see if I can still find my SH5 DVD.

Hi,

I have the same problems with uplay.
BUT i reinstalled my Uplay Version AND disabled the automatic update checkbox.
After i started the fresh game, the version of the game was 1.2.0. -->
So I installed the standart WoS modpack (not the test) and the everything worked until i start a new career, go to the museum or load a saved game.

PS: when i want to start the game from the sh5 folder from the sh5.exe, uplay asks me for the code either.

Yes, the game loads in 5 minutes and the menu is working.

If this is all being done in the same game load IIRC going in and out of these can cause problems?

If your game loads to the main menu that would appear not to be a Uplay problem.

Do you think this is a game installation problem?
Has the SH5 saved game folder been setup?

Uplay does its job in loading the game.
The problem arises when making a selection from the main menu.
The Uplay download uses a different SH5.exe to the DVD and STEAM download.
With the patcher error there are some 43 responses needed to be made I wonder if if the return key is being pressed to quickly accepting the patch and its causing a corruption?

Taff has recently released a youtube SH5 vid and explains the following:

1. After some 10 years or so, Ubisoft have decided to patch SH5 for some unknown reason.
2. The vanilla version of the game (patched to 1.2.0) works fine, however TWoS mod is no longer compatible with SH5 downloaded from Ubisoft.
3. If you have the original DVD version, then when patched to 1.2.0, TWoS mod is compatible with that process.
4. Those with no access to the original DVD can only play the vanilla version of the game at present.

So, I guess vdr1981 would really need to know what the nature of this recent patch has been?

What about Steam version? Did they manage to mess things up there as well? Anyone? :hmmm:
My SH5 is Steam, not UPlay, but on my Windows 10 64-bit, I have a Ubisoft UPlay SH4 v1.5 game, and when installing it, the installer saw my Steam installs of SHIII & SH5, and offered to bring them into the same folder and put them on the Start menu, which I did. During the install path dialog with UPlay, I chose to install UPlay, and all Silent Hunter games in "C:\Ubisoft\" by deleting the "Program Files (x86)\" portion of the path. I re-did my Steam SH5 install the other day, to test things with Steam and UPlay, and everything went well, including after the UPlay 'update' downloaded and installed. I can play SH5 with TWoS just fine - but it is Steam inside the UPlay folder - NOT in a Program Files folder. However, I can start it from either front-end, or from the SH5.exe file. My case is probably a rather unusual set-up. My Windows 7 desktop computer's Steam SH5 is fine inside its Steam install, which is also NOT in a Program Files folder. With all installs and mod activations, the Save folder has been emptied, even for seemingly minor mod alterations. :salute:

I've been having a break from SH5 for a fair while, I have the UPlay download version on v1.05 of TWoS installed at the moment, but haven't started the game for a few months. I dare not run the game just now as it looks like it will succumb to this exe overwrite, if it hasn't already done so in the background.

However, I do also have the DVD version as well, and from what I am seeing in this thread this can be installed and be ok with the mod.But I have one question about this, if I uninstalled everything and reinstalled SH5 from the dvd, and ran from the exe directly, since that seems to be the recommendation, would I still be able to have a fully up to date UPlay client installed in order to run my other Ubisoft games? Or would this mean if I want to run SH5, it has to be that on its own and nothing else?

I don't see why Uplay would need to have copy write protection for it's dpwnload.

It already has control over STEAM and DVD which both have to use Uplay.
I would assume that any Uplay purchase of the game is password protected anyway when the game is bought.

Do a "Search" on the store site for "Silent Hunter" instead of being specific. Their search engine seemingly always takes you to the pricier offering... - If you can hold off for a few weeks, they should all being going on a holiday discount, but it will be about four weeks, and the difference usually is not that much, maybe 50% off. :salute:

Game play setting changes must be made before you save the game not after otherwise the changes will not happen.
Not sure why you chose to continuing a campaign when you are starting the first campaign in Memel.
On a personal note I prefer to select the mission, change the game play settings, then make the game save, load the game save from the main menu.

Peter

Hi Peter :salute:
You are right. I didn't pay attention to the settings (normally I do the same as you do) it wasn't important where I started but this time i loaded so just to do it faster, I just wanted to make videos that showed TWoS to me it seems to work good with steam.

If this is true than DVD version is probably next...:hmmm: I really don't understand those charlatans from Ubisoft. It seems that they are trying to kill their own game one more time.

Well, if the game is installed from the DVD, then patched offline with the official patch 1.02 (https://www.google.com/search?safe=off&sxsrf=ACYBGNT5C8fl2PnX9v_7_X72TmX-QaI62g%3A1572194553765&ei=-ci1Xf-xLs2RkwWTiaaIAQ&q=silent+hunter+5+patch+1.02&oq=silent+hunter+5+patch+1.02&gs_l=psy-ab.3...3228.3228..4001...0.0..0.95.95.1......0.... 1..gws-wiz.od0-FiOKoso&ved=0ahUKEwi_kpSP8bzlAhXNyKQKHZOECREQ4dUDCAs&uact=5), then again patched with TDW's patch for bypassing the crappy Ubi launcher, I don't see how Ubi can mess on my own computer the copy of SH5 that I legitimately bought, even though by all appearances they are trying (once more) to boicot it... :hmmm:

Hi gap
Like you I bought my DVD legitimately some years ago before all this Ubi/Uplay crap started when all we had to contend with was the bugs.
I now have the option to use a cracked exe with my game so they can go to hell I don't need them anymore.
They are selling this game today which is not fit for purpose and it's about time they took responsibility and got their act together, after all they have had plenty of time.

Perhaps the most hilarious thing about Ubi and SH5 is that they are still selling and getting money from a product that they keep breaking rather than supporting and fixing it. Not to mention the fact that who is more negatively affected by this wrong policy are the ones who, with their work and enthusiasm, have contributed to the relative popularity of this title making them to keep earning money from a largely unfinished game... in another world, or another company, they would be grateful to this people, but apparently for some reason they don't like or to the least they don't care about their work...

On a side note: is there any plausible reason they have offered for releasing a new game patch (a release note or something) after years of silence?
In the official SH5 support page (https://support.ubi.com/it-IT/Faqs/000013115/Tutte-le-Patch-per-Silent-Hunter-5-Battle-of-the-Atlantic-1364550366669) (sorry, in Italian, I couldn't find one in English), the last listed patch is still 1.02

Hi Gap
What I do not understand with Uplay is every time you start the game they patch it before logging you in to your game.
Why do they need to that, surely when the game is updated from v1.05 to v1.2.0 all the patching that needs to be done could be done in one go and the game could go straight to the game and be started.

Ubicrap removed the Starforce protection from SH3 and all versions are security free.
SH5 is secured by download version password and the DVD has a cd key as well as a password.
In the way that SH3 was treated one would think that an updated SH5 version could quite easily be treated the same way and be made Uplay free.
Why Uplay should be, or needs to be involved in a Ubisoft game that is 12 years old to me is total bewilderment and does not make sense.

It was a Uplay update some 5 years ago now that messed up the campaign icons and tonnage bar from working.

The patch hasn't worked. Got the usual 'different version' message, and only 8 of the Generic File Patcher files loaded.

(It isn't a "patch". It's a complete installer for TWoS v2.2.16 which requires a clean SH5 installation...)

But how if your sh5.exe is automatically replaced by the test installer?!:hmmm:

Do you have in your main game folder files called "sh5.exe.patch" and "sh5.exe.steam"?

Without words .... evidently Ubisoft prefer to sell a buggy game,
Don't they understand that if it is still purchased it is thanks to the work of the Modders? The vanilla game is .... useless! happy them!

They do not have a date on that "terms of use agreement", and while I will have to try and dig through my files for their "original" version from when I purchased the game, I do not remember them "banning" modding. I also do not expect to find an un-altered version on my hard drive anymore, since they updated my install without my permission... To me, new Ubisoft purchases are now "against my terms of use"...

Given that I thank Ubisoft for having released the "Silent Hunter" series ... but ....

And to think that there are companies that encourage the Modder..

and ubisoft evidently keeps his eyes closed though!

For example IL2Sturmovik
This is a note from Maddox / 1CGS in this regard released on 03/15/2018

"IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles Series now allows modifications with the 'Mods On' option checked inside the game.
Please Note: 1CGS is NOT responsible for issues arising from the creation or use of either positive or negative mods created by third parties or individuals. Use at your own risk! Do not write to us if it does not work or cause problems. Again, this is a purely optional setting and 1CGS is NOT RESPONSIBLE for the creation or use of mods. Mods On mode also does not mean we are required to unlock or make available all files to the game.
If we determine a solution to our product, we may take steps to make that modification useless and make specific files off limits. Selling or making any mod for IL-2 or Sturmovik Selling or making any kind of IL-2 Sturmovik.
Jason "here is the link
https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/34695-a-word-about-mods-for-il-2-sturmovik/

In this case Ubisoft is convenient, however ... Where are the "terms of use" in this case?
I remind you that IL2 is distributed by 1CGS in Russia while in the rest of the world Ubisoft is distributing it ...
where is the coherence?

Hi Vecko
I have done some extensive testing today regarding the problems with Uplay.
There is a problem now installing the game from a DVD which was not there before.
https://i.postimg.cc/sXLy9rNB/28-connection-fault.jpg

However there is a way around thIs by going through the back door by Googling Uplay Home and installing the Uplay installer.
https://i.postimg.cc/9QXmhJZQ/34-Download.jpg

I can confirm that the stock game works.
I can confirm that TWoS installs all 9 GFP patches and the game works as long as the gps file is not restored,
However when I enable the Snapshot gps file this then happens when I start the game again.
https://i.postimg.cc/FR2SC1W3/capture-089-29102019-144600.jpg

The way around this is to use your suggestion Vecko which fixes the problem and TWoS loads the game with the GFP restored with all relevant patches.
Uplay is removed and the game loads.
https://i.postimg.cc/QxN74LS6/Untitled.png

I would suggest before enabling the patches that you set Uplay in Offline mode so your games are taken from your own saved games.

Hi Peter, thank you very much for your testing! :salute:
So, the only way to use DVD SH5 with the Generic Patcher is to disable Uplay browser or not to restore the snapshot at all? Is that correct?

You are aware that your campaign will not advance automatically in case of disabled uplay browser?

Also, did you see this and do you have any comment about it? https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=242936

Hi Vecko
Picture one is a more recent with the connection which is pobably why stellaferox disconnected the internet.
This is a peculiar one because Uplay has just patched the exe to 1.2 from the gu updater and what should happen is Uplay should now automatically start the game but for some reason this error screen appears.

I now have a Uplay download which installs the game patched to v1.2 with a bigger SH5.exe size of 4461KB.
When the GFP is installed from the TWoS 2.2.16 full version install you see this.
https://i.postimg.cc/zB0sTykS/Uplay-download-GFP-error.jpg

Only 8 patches are installed but all 9 patches show in the cfg file.
When I delete the Uplay SH5exe 4461KB and replace it with the DVD SH5.exe 4458KB the GFP patches the missing patch so all 9 patches are enabled.
With the gps file restored there is no need to make a further change to the GFP.
https://i.postimg.cc/sDLCxGnp/Play.jpg

I have synchronizing unticked and also offline.

Is there any way to get TWOS working at all?

I have SH5 from the UPLAY download which of course no longer works with TWOS. (I'm genuinely gutted by this, Wolfpack is fun but I miss the real navigation and features only possible with time dilation.)

Is it an option to use the Steam converter or is this not working either?

many thanks

Hello ASOR_Harmer ,

Thank you for contacting Ubisoft Support and I would like to apologise for the time it took us to get back to you.

I am sorry to hear about this situation with your favourite mod for Silent Hunter 5 after a new patch for the game. In regards to your questions:
1) I am unable to answer this as we have no such information available to us.
2) As far as I know it is not possible to use an older version of a game. We would always recommend to use the latest versions of our games. However I will forward this request for a roll back to the relevant teams to look into if this will be possible in the future.

I do apologise that the mod mentioned is no longer running however we are not able to look into any modifications made by mods to our game. You may need to look into this with hte mod makers to see if a workaround is possible for you to use the mod with the new patch.

If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to contact us we answer to all tickets we receive!

Best Regards,
Adrian

I can cofirm that simple sh5.exe replacement will mend all uplay related issues.

However, from my experience I know that many not so much computer savvy uplay owners won't be able to do this for them self. It seems that we are also not allowed to publicly redistribute working sh5 v1.02 executable (the one which is installed when game is updated trough the regular game updater tool contained within DVD installation).

I'll try to contact Sputterfish, the guy who actually created famous "Steam converter tool" and solved years long problems involved around steam SH5. We may need similar application for uplay download version as well...

Hi,

What do you mean by a " simple sh5.exe replacement will mend all uplay related issues." Have Silent Hunter 5 and TWoS on one computer and they run ok. Downloaded another version of Silent Hunter and the mod on a newer computer and ran all the updates and the mod does not work. Will copying the game application from the first computer and pasting it into the game folder on the newer computer do the trick?

Thanks

Hi Redowl
" simple sh5.exe replacement will mend all uplay related issues." The latest Uplay downloads SH5.exe will only support the stock game. To mod a game you need to replace this exe from one from a different source already updated to v1.2 which solves the problem and the game can then be modded successfully.
To install or re-install a dvd its SH5 exe can be used but not with the default game launcher as an error occurs. The game launcher needs to be replaced and the game is set to be played offline.
My SH5 tutorial signature below has more information in the tutorial menu page 31.

only 8 patches work. there is a pop up for the 9th saying: 'version error. A version of SH5 One patch has been installed incorrectly?
You need to open the cfg file and change the file path to match the other 8.

I am one of those people who are somewhat computer challenged ...

Why would ubi do this ?
Are they patching some vulnerability ? I doubt that any gameplay issues were addressed , And its with exe files? whenever i hear of something affecting an exe file my stress level goes up .

Is it a simple money grab to boost steam sales ?
If this is the case ... fine whatever , ill buy another copy since i can't find my hard copy , since i have been dependant on ubi for years now for the dl .

But it's my understanding that steam simply shunts you back to Uplay so will it solve my problem by giving me an easy DL readily moddable with wos , Jsgm to install my other mods , I haven't bothered to look into how steam works because used to be ubi was the preferred method and steam didn't work .. just trying to keep up .

I am reverting back to 2.2.7 until I have finished all campaigns. At least that prevents me from losing my savegames.

It says on the download page : not savegame compatible from version 2.2.9 onwards. A fellow member told me I should try nonetheless so I did
