I am sorry to be starting another thread on this topic, and I have tried to resolve it on my own. Any help would sure be appreciated.

I have the Steam game installed, and I have moved that install folder away from the default Program Files location. I then installed the GWX mod successfully, and was well into a mission when I got a random CTD. Since then, haven't been able to load my last save file. It almost loads, but then I get a CTD. So, I figured I needed the 4 gb patch. I was not able to install that patch. There are 2 choices in that patch file, either Reloaded or StarForce, and I am not sure what either one means. I tried to run each one and get the same error message which refers to an unknown version of the sh3.exe at the install location.

What do you think? Should I reinstall the game, then try the patch again, then GWX? Or I am now seeing reference to a patch by h.sie that might contain the 4 gb fix? If using his please tell me the correct order to install if it matters.(ie: base game, then h.sie, then GWX). Thank you!!

Your Steam version is the newest SH3 available, definitely not StarFarce. The "Reloaded" is just a name the author gave to his "twist" on the applet. The 4gig patches just flip a bit in the executable file, and you could use Large Address Aware (LAA), of which CapnScurvy did a write-up on in the SH4 threads "Windows10; Large Address Aware; SH4 Install (https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?p=2452635#post2452635), focused on Windows 10, but it also applies to Vista thru Win8. You could also use NTCore 4GB Patch (https://ntcore.com/?page_id=371) to do the same thing. h.sie should also have the choice on its menu. The main thing with those apps is the OS has to be a 64-bit version, unless you want to get into some fancy footwork with boot.ini and / or BCDEdit. You should also have 4gig or more of RAM. Another point of importance is that the SH3.exe file has to be write-enabled for the 4g patches to "take". Right-click on SH3.exe, and choose "Properties" from the resultant context menu. On that first "General" tab, toward the bottom, you'll see a "tick box" for "Read-only". Make certain that is cleared, to where it is blank. "OK" that, and do the patch.

Now, all that said, don't expect your Save to load. It might, but usually speaking, when a Save fails, its done. So don't expect miracles. If it works after the 4 gig, fantastic. Just be forewarned. :salute:

Thank you for the help. I am very frustrated with all of this. I deleted everything and reinstalled the game. I then tried installing the 4 gig patch and GWX and now it is still crashing to desktop. What is the correct order to install GWX and this patch or does that matter?

You need to run Windows 10 in a compatibility mode like Windows 7.
Your applications should be run as administrators.

Install the 4gb patch in your main game folder and point it to your SH3.exe.
The GWX application should also be installed in your main game folder as well.
