View Full Version : Today I saw the first work up of single player: Lone Wolf mode

The devs have begun work on the all-important single player upgrade. :Kaleun_Cheers:

The concept is to retain all the atmosphere and immersion that Wolfpack provides but allow the game to be easily manageable by one player if he chooses to go Lone Wolf. You will be able to control your boat with bots manning the various stations, they will step aside for you if you desire hands-on control of a piece of gear. Or you can opt to stay at any one station and toggle on a control overlay and make changes directly from there.

Once this upgrade is tested and complete, it will be released to all owners of the game. God help England.

Sounds great, looking forward to this feature.

I love this game, but so far only played it single player (difficult to get uninterrupted gaming sessions for me currently). Hard to go back to Silent Hunter once you saw Wolfpack. :-) While I find solo play doable at the moment, it gets a bit annoying to run down from the bridge to read bearings, change speed etc. So some NPC assistance would be greatly appreciated.

As a feature request, a pause function for solo players would be nice.

So very excited for this update! Playing with friends is wonderful, however it will definitely be nice to enjoy Wolfpack when time or other players are limited.

Re Wolfpack and how to fund the development this was discussed on the discord 4th Flotilla forum after our tournement patrols two Sundays ago some of the members didnt like the idea of bots it will turn Wolfpack into a single player Game/Simulation.

I then asked if I could throw my 2 peneth into the mix
I started by saying its one way of increasing sales of Wolfpack getting more Gamers involved then that helps with development of Wolfpack.
also for me and the other Wolfpack Multiplayer Junkies out there in the Wolfpack Virtual Ocean so to speak having bots its a nice practice tool when some of your crew aint available helps to keep you sharp.
Also gets new players upto speed with mastering all the control stations in single player then they will have a go
at playing with other Wolfpack Players crew members that they rub shoulders with on Subsim and discord.

Option 2

any future updates DLC'S you must pay for bots £7:50 $10
Convoy Map Zones 1942-45 £15:00 $22:50
Hedgehogs Squids and Aircraft £15:00 $22:00
Human Controlled Escorts £30:00 $35:00

they didnt like that idea they were quick to point out they had already bought the Game.

my reply Einar and Oscar Onkel Neal thats the Wolfpack Devs they are not
Creative Assembly Blizzard or Ubisoft they have got to find a way to fund Wolfpack development.

Guys, you definitely need extra funding. But at this stage it is difficult to find the real reason for the additional funding from the players. If there was one big, common server with an open world and the ability to control surface ships, then there and at this stage one could offer players something for money, camouflage on ships, or interior decorations, or emblems, but in this form it is even difficult Imagine that you can start bringing additional funds (

Onkel Neal

There will not be any additional charges for single player. It comes with the game at the current price.

Good news indeed! I will now add it to my list of sims to watch for.
The reason I haven't bought it is the multiplayer focus. I prefer single player games and avoid multiplayer.

I play games to get away from other humans, not interact with them even more...

Would be nice if one can choose to turn the bots on or off. I really like SP without the bots. Kind of challenging....

I too find it hard to schedule exact play hours to join groups. I play when I can, usually singleplayer games.

Kickstarter funding might work if the goal was reasonable with stretch goals and bonus extras that link directly to stated dev steps/intentions.

That is, improvements in stages-identified by funding levels that are close enough to be believeable--easily reached.

There are many thousands of sub gamers out there, many still on the fence about this game. KS would/could reach out to them with tempting improvements beyond the current excellent game experience.

Don't forget frequent dev updates to keep interest alive.

Onkel Neal
07-04-19, 10:30 AM
Thanks for the feedback, Raymond, good info, and that really helps.

At this stage we can manage to incorporate single player interface without a Kickstarter. It will take a little time and testing but when it comes out, I anticipate a surge in sales and interest. And of course, people who already own Wolfpack will get the expansion free!

Thanks God,
I've just wanted to ask this question on forum.
Personally for me there is no sense to play if no single mode available: is hard to collect more than 4-5 people to play, when we have:

multicrew stations
few submarines
few escort units (PvP, I hope)

...when time is critical issue at this game.

God help England.

Silent...wha! Truly...this is one for the ages. Pardon me, but can't help but wax poetically...Wolfpack is like an homage to the genre...a distillation of the essence which drew me to boats back in the days of 50lb laptops...And in all that time --taking nothing from those classics which paved the way -- nothing, nothing, has, for me, the immersive pull of this...Wolfpack; I am the Capt of U-96!, I am plowing the frigid waters of the North Atlantic!(...then my wife rings the dinner bell -- for a moment I think it's an Alarm ) And to think there is much more in the offing :yeah:...Guys, I submit: these are the good ol' days!

Well, I can't disagree with you more, but I'd like to extend the invitation to show you how multiplayer in this game, which it has been designed around, truly expands the experience.

No amount of 'bots' are going to be as thrilling, challenging or exciting and running this with people.

I know some people are shy, others don't have a list of people to play with... but if it's the first or the latter, please consider joining me and my crew. You'll be welcome and I'll train you on anything you're unsure about.

Hope to hear from you and walk you through how Wolfpack is **supposed** to be played. :)

The three single player interfaces are pretty much complete;

Helm+TDC
Hydrophone+Radio
Dive

You can play the game alone effortlessly now, control the sub from anywhere.

Call for periscope depth and set up a shot, no more running up and down the ladder like a wild man.

You get updates on battery and bilge, contacts, etc.

The AI crewmen will be stationed in the sub and step aside when you desire to man a station yourself.

If you have a friend play, he can take one of the roles for himself if that's how you want to play it.

It's really looking good, I'm playing more now than ever. Still loving coop games, that's never going to fade, but now I can start a game and enjoy it solo. Can't wait to share it with you.

cheers

Can you put in a text box where you can type in orders, instead of gui?

Examples.
Type "Course?", your character says it, you hear an answer "Current course 135"
Type "Turn to 270", you say it helmsman starts turning.
Type "Turn port 15" etc

"Torpedo depth 3 meters", "AOB port 80", "Speed 9", "Fire I tube"

You can also use abbreviations. "C", "C 270", "tp 15"
"td 3", aob p 80", "ts 9", "f I"

Can you have the option online playing each with one submarine ?. 4 submarines playing as silent hunter 3

each captain with his submarine.

each captain with his IA crew(BOTS)

Can you have the option online playing each with one submarine ?. 4 submarines playing as silent hunter 3

each captain with his submarine.

each captain with his IA crew(BOTS)At the current (pre-bots) version each one of 4 commanders can play as a one-man-crew in the confines of his own boat but still work together as a 4-boat wolfpack. But the entire gameplay is limited to the encounter with a single convoy or group of ships. So with bots it would seem to be equally capable. There is no seamless transition between different convoy encounters or movement to other seas/ocean regions like in the Silent Hunter games. You'd have to roleplay that by restarting the game with different encounter settings. You have to make up the boredom period yourself (get into a game and ignore the convoy for hours/days on end). ;)

zeus
09-16-19, 03:52 PM
okay.
in sh3 multiplayer missions are random. I mean that the uboats appear in attack position, near the convoy. This in wolfpacks would be very good. If you want historical convoys you just have to design the mission and create it

Pisces
09-16-19, 03:56 PM
Oh yeah, I forgot SH3 also has multiplayer. In that regard it is quite similar I guess. (except that you have to run around more to operate it at this time) I never played SH3 multiplayer. I was thinking the single player playstyle of it. Sorry for misunderstanding.

Is there a plan to introduce a Save Mission function for SP?
It would be fantastic, too many times did real life get in my way, forcing me to simply cancel the mission !!!

Yes, it's in The Plan.

Yes, and it adds tremendously to a game; meaning 2, 3, 4 guys can easily control their own sub, shadow and attack the convoy from all sides, and wreak havoc. In missions with 10 escorts and 30 merchants, at night, with flares raining down, it gets pretty intense.

Just read the e mail announcement about SP. Great News! I never play MP or Coop (don't know how and have terrible internet connection living in the boonies). Used to pretty much live here in my off hours but haven't fired up Silent Hunter in years. I think I'm going to pull the trigger and get back into things. Thanks.

It's not that kind of single player game. It's solo player supported by bots in a multiplay game. Multiplay being 1 player minimum. Disconnecting my network connection prevented starting the world (in version 0.18b; And I doubt the inclusion of bots in 0.19 changed that. Nothing mentioned in the changes anyway).

Im going to get wolfpack because of the single player option. I like to play multiplayer, but I think, like me, gamers will like an opportunity to test it out and get used to everything before they join MP groups. I also like the dedication and development by sincere sub-simmers. It seems like a labor of love

Wow, I haven’t been here for years ... literally.

I took a brief look when I first heard about Wolfpack, but made myself forget about it when I realized it was multiplayer only, because I don’t have any friends who would be at all into this kind of thing, and my limited experiences in any online multiplayer game with strangers have been uniformly unpleasant.

Getting the email today that Wolfpack now supports single-player with bots for the rest of the stations was like the golden rays of dawn streaming forth after a long, dark night for my interest in submarines.

I expect to buy this on Steam within the next couple of days. But in the meantime, a huge, huge thanks to the developers for making room in what just might be the ultimate U-boat sim for players like me!

Really, single player operation was there from the beginning. It was just cumbersome to do everything yourself. Now you have 3 helping hands in your boat.

Yep, I was actually aware of that. But the idea of needing to frantically run around my boat trying to do all of the jobs seemed like a nonstarter to me if I wanted to actually have a chance of being effective in a combat situation. This should be much better.
