View Full Version : Lada - Diesel or No Diesel ?
I started playing the Lada and found there is no snorkeling function, unlike in that of the Kilo. Is the Battery charging simulated in the RA version?
Lada is Air-independent propulsion (AIP) submarine. In RA this propulsion doesn't work correct because it allows to reach only small speed 4-8 kts
DW engine is obsolete and hav many limitations, so in RA all AIP submarines are like with unlimited battery capacity.
I had in mind: in real world AIP allows to reach only small speed (depends on technology), probably from 6 to 8 kts.
All above this speed should depletes batteries much faster - similar like in classic diesel-electric.
But in mod, AIP submarines haven't this limit. They works like nuclear ones :P
(sorry, my english is far from good)

IRL Lada is diezel-electric.
There was/is work on AIP, but the only sub of the class in service is conventional.
I know, the same is with Harushio class. In RA all are AIP. In Real only Asashio after modernisation in 2000

Oh man, I'd love it if RA did a playable Oberon - what a Cold War warrior! :ping:
Hopefully one day ;)

Yes,Oberon that would be good ! If only fully simulated : Kaleun_Thumbs_Up:
Lada was supposed to be an AIP submarine, but they never got the AIP module finished on time to make it to the sub.
I believe the plan is to retro-fit the AIP module in the future as it becomes available.
