I'm ready to give a campaign a try and was hoping to get some advice. Which campaign would you suggest for a new player, one of the stock campaigns or one of the community campaigns? Thanks!

The 1984 is good to start the adventure in stock game, get familiar with the boat and tactics. Not sure about 1968 campaign because the AI subs and ships still can hear torps in the baffles, its preety hard for start.

For an easier run I highly recommend (from own experience) to start with a sub that goes at 30+ knots max speed, making torpedo evasion easier. This means that the 1968 campaign will be much harder, sub speeds are generally at 20-24 knots only which requires more accurate tactics that start evasion earlier and make any attack more risky.

The good thing about modded campaigns is that there are a lot of modelled subs and VLS systems not included in the stock game like Sea-Lance missiles (? I go by memory here), but I would first play the stock game before playing any mod.

yes, 1984 stock campaign with a LA class sub is a good place to start.
