Disappearing Camo Patterns still a problem?

I remember this from years ago ... that you would trade renown for a nice new cool looking paint job and then find it seemed to disappear and be washed off in the sea!

Is there any way to fix it?

I remember (I THINK) someone made some sort of mod to stop this happening?

This is a sh5 bug so it still happens.

I don't know about a mod to prevent this.
