Hello, I would like to mod sh5, I played SH3 for a few years ago, then I bought both SH4 and 5 on Steam. I'd like to get some help on what mods I should get, and also how I can see if they're enabled and actually working. And remember I have the STEAM version. I have already put Mod enabler into the SH4 folder which made the MODS folder pop up, I put the mods in the JSGME thingy, turned them to the "Enable" part, some mods turn light grey and I get warning messages about certain files overwriting other mods' files and blablabla, and when I play the game, it crashes after a while and I have no idea if the mods actually work either. So please help me.
Compatible mods?
How to mod the correct way?
How I see if they work?

Irrespective of what mods to use and how they work you have a big problem beacause the essential application TDW's Generic File Patcher is not compatible with STEAM.
The only way around this problem:
Steam conversion:
Post #161 TDW’s Generic File Patcher Steam Installation Instructions By sirrawsrsalot > Updated Version (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=2266214&postcount=161)
Other type of Download or Dvd.
The game is broken and so to play SH5 successfully you need to be able to use a mega mod like The Wolves of Steel.

Hi NL
No one has ever reported that problem before.
Try again with a clean Steam install.
Use a registry cleaner first before re-installing.

It's very interesting because the files are there now but the exe can't find them, double checked and they are where they are supposed to be.

Default Location C/Program filesx86/Steam/Steam Apps/Common/Silent Hunter ( Applies to most Steam Games )
Main Folder
If the Exe is not finding them there is a problem with the Registry, Administrator rights or possibly Antivirus Blocking Exe if it has been modified ( Very Common ) Disable AV and try again , right click on SH5.exe to change properties to run as Administrator if still problem persists check registry last
the path in registry is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Ubisoft\Si lent Hunter 5\GameUpdate for Retail DVD Steam will be slightly different but thereabouts . I think it is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Valve\Steam\Apps\
Click on Game update and it should show path
Check execpath ( 4th Down ) matches where you installed Silent Hunter if it does not edit the path as necessary
as a last resort you could verify the games cache using Steam but I don't think that is applicable in your situation.

After going to the apps thingy I just saw a bunch of files with numbers, and I don't know what you mean with the execpath thing, can't find it :/

The default install path for Steam is into the C:\ drive in a "Program Files" directory, which on all "modern" versions of Windows, is a protected directory, and Windows will restore most of the altered files back to their original state. If you're Steam install is in there, you'll have to use your Steam app to add a library folder for your Silent Hunter install that is not in that Program Files folder. On a different drive is best, if available. You can also move folders, and then tell Steam about the move, such as:
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?p_faqid=231
I moved my whole Steam install when I did that on my laptop. Thing is, it re-creates all the online info, right back in a C:\Program Files \Steam folder, and in the new folder, so it takes a while... Read the whole thing a couple-three times so that it's stamped in your brain for more than 2 seconds (applies to old fahrtz like me). I even printed it out for reference as I went along... :salute:
If you've got a 2nd hard drive though, the first method there, where they describe adding a Library folder is the quickest, most efficient way to go. :salute:
