Israel currently holds the latest iteration of Blue Flag, the biggest air manouver ever held in Israel (Blue Flag is done twice a year in Israel). A former enemy, India, now participates as an ally, while a former false ally, Turkey, is no more part of it.

What is historically remarkable: four German Eurofighters participate as well. The last time german combat planes flew over the socalled Holy Land, was almost a century ago, it were recconnaissance planes of the Royal Bavarian air force (yes, something like this indeed has existed) who shot their first aerial photographies of Palestine.

In fact, German-Israeli military contacts and German personnnel training in Israel, are not new, but until now have been run in the hidden. That they now do it openly under the eyes of the world, is a message - as is the participation of India and the absence of Turkey. Political weights and foci have been shifting, thanks to Islamic fascism threatening everybody, India, Israel and Europe as well.

Contingents from 8 other states are currently guest of the IAF.

Good for Israel, they need all the help they can get being surrounded by all the worlds crappiest people.

The relationship with Germany could certainly be mended as well

The Israelis are well advised to not trust the Europeans. Never. ;) And I think they know this.

These exercises - are peacetime games with no real political costs. And europeans tell Israel all the time how much they want to be friend with it. But politically they act differently. The boycott Israeli products. The lecture it on its v ital and most elemental security interests. They tell it it shoukld follow their own follies regarding Islam. But the real expert on these issues are not the Europeans, but the Israelis themselves.

Germany maybe would be more hesitent to openly betray them. But in the end, when the situation becomes such and such, it would. Just a bit later than France or Britain.

And do not underestmate the double nature of German attitude toweards Israel. As a famous Jewish psychoanalyst once put it: The Germans will never forgive the Jews the holocaust. That is no misquote by me, he said it like this. Think about it, and let it sink deep.

Its like with having friends for party. As long as you throw the party, they all want to be your friends and smile and laugh. But when you fall and become ill and need help or violate public consensus - then you soon see the false friends separating from the real ones. And of the latter, not many will remain. Telling you by experience.

I was a little surprised to see the absence of the UK.
