View Full Version : Nomograph replacement

Hi Folks!

I think that the nomograph/nomogram (N) is a very useful aid in Silent Hunter. Looking for a quite normal "N" in Yards/NM (SH4) I found quite by chance the so called Nautical Slide Rule. See the pictures.
The three kinds of computing operations you can do with a "N" are also to solve with this instrument and
- much more easier,
- faster
- and (so it looks) more precise.
An additional advantage is that the "N" in the ingame map/chart becomes needless. Good for the frame rate and the overview.

Unfortunately I could not find a picture of the second or inner disc of the ruler. It seemed that it was interestingly only produced (and used (?)) in the USA; a german search brought no positive results. Further people can buy it but it will no longer be new produced. I am, as we say in german, " bin nicht der größte Bastler vor dem Herrn" (I am not the greatest hobbyist before the Lord.(??)) and therefore I post this little tool with the hope that perhaps someone who has the skill, the time and fun to do it can build a replica for the area "utilities". I can imagine that it will probably "sell" like hot cakes?!

Would something like this (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=218441) be helpful?

BTW, the item can be purchased new from Weems and Plath (http://www.weems-plath.com/Calculators-Plotting-Aids/Nautical-Slide-Rule.html).

Thank you Nathaniel,

a) but your proposal is exactly that I want to avoid - more MB which burden the computing capacities. 2nd reason: I prefer for these calculations a tool universal to use with, for instance, Silent Service 2 up to Cold Waters.

b) I know where I can buy the NSR. That isn't the point. But on the one hand I'm not wanted to pay a price about more than double the game costs and on the other hand there are a lot of tools for do it yourself building for example affecting the generally known AOB problem or the German Whizz Wheel. Therefore I thought that perhaps someone could do this job with the NSR.

Normally, I think, the three computations the NSR offers must can also be executed with the "Angriffsscheibe" (WhizzWheel) but I lost my manual and up to date I only found a invalid link to a older version of KptltHähls version of.

Mmh, meanwhile the nomograph from a plotting sheet must be enough.
