View Full Version : Are there specific triggers for the endgame?

Hey, quick question after finishing my second campaign.

During the first campaign, after a few missions of more or less successful hunting, I got the "infiltrate the Nothern bastion and sink the Typhoon" mission. As I understand it, this is your classic "last boss fight" to finish the campaign.

Got in the vicinity of the Typhoon, got what I thought was a random encounter with an Udaloy. Sunk the Udaloy, left, turned out that was the Typhoon bastion. Threat of nuclear war used in the negociations, ceasefire, Sovet Union keeps together, heading for WWIV. Right.

My bad CINCLANT.

Now, following campaign. A handful of missions (never failing once), I get the "hunt the Red October" mission again. Now, this time I know the Udaloy is part of the escort so I prepare myself for a better performance and...

Civil war in the Soviet Union before I even reach the Norwegian sea. The Soviet Union dislocates under the might of the singing Estonians or something like that, ceasefire is signed at the advantage of NATO...And I don't even get to hunt the Typhoon.

So, my question is: How is that triggered? Is there a load of different endings, depending on your performance? Something like:

1. NATO loses the war: Fail too many missions.

2. Ceasefire: Manage enough missions but fail at hunting the Typhoon

3. NATO wins the war: Manage enough missions and manage hunting the Typhoon

4. Civil war in the Soviet Union: 100% success rate maybe? So you don't have to hunt the Typhoon as a reward?

Or was that simply a bug, with the end of the campaign triggering too early before I did the Typhoon mission?

Boomer hunt has a 10% chance of firing once you have 60% of the victory points required to win. If you win that mission it's a NATO victory. If you lose that mission it's an armistice.

I'm not sure why your game ended before starting the boomer hunt - maybe there's a trigger related to the land war.

I guess the boomer mission still has too short of a patrol time that you ended up missing it. However that should have ended in a stalemate, and not NATO victory.

That was my guess as well.

But that wasn't "a short patrol". That was "I wasn't even past Scotland" (I got the mission right after a rearmament order).

But I have never had the "NATO victory", does it read as the same event as the "Civil war in the Soviet Union" that I got?
