View Full Version : Tactical map water colors
Just curious about the different shading displayed on the tactical map. Does the shading denote ocean depth or areas of high noise?
I remember Red Storm Rising had a display that showed water sound travel conditions and used to hide in them all the time.
Thanks

From my limited experience, it seems to be water depth. I just wish it's at a higher contrast as it's hard to see between bands for these old eyes.

In default/hud/default.txt you can change the overlay map colours, thresholds and filtering. 0.33 is sea level. Be sure to make the edits in an override folder.
[LandOverlay]
Thresholds=0.33,0.3507
ColorBlend=1,1,0.9
LandColor=0,0,0,255
CoastColor=0,0,0,255
WaterColor=0,0,10,255
FilterOverlay=TRUE
So it is depicting the sea floor. Thanks for the info regarding contrasts.:salute:

Thanks for the info but which value would I change if I want to increase the contrast/color between each band to make them more distinctive?

The map needs an overhaul, the range grids need to be in kyds and nmi so we know what the heck we are looking at.

And we need contour lines of the bottom. Bathimetry maps are stupidly detailed for obvious reasons and they have a lot more information.

They do if you zoom in but it is hard to see, that's why I want to be able to increase the contrast between each band.
