Hi
Just reinstalled SHIII after a 12 year absence and it shows.
I'm having some problems with Manual Targeting using the Periscope.
I identify target ship using recognition manual.
I range the target using the Stadimeter.
I am setting AOB for 90degrees as only doing beam shots at the moment and only firing when right in front of my tubes
Now speed is one of the issues. Start timer and stop timer and I am getting some crazy speeds in excess of 200kts sometimes.
Another issue i'm having is a did the Courageous quick mission and speed given was 20 kts. When I fired the torps they seemed to go straight rather than veer towards where a 20kt ship should be?
My SHIII is vanilla with no mods.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

That explains nothing.

1- Use the nomograph (available with GWX). 2 minutes is more than enough to figure out a workable distance and estimate a speed.
2- Distance in 3m15 x 10 = speed in knots
3- To use the "speed" estimation tool in Notepad, you need both the type, the AoB and distance inputted before going for the speed. Al of the above data is used when evaluating speed. If your data is solid, 30 seconds is enough to get a working speed to input.

o_O no need to do calcule like that.
Use the 3min15 méthod then first mark with the second one give you the speed of the targe thats it.
You can also use 1,37 min.
1,37 x 2 = 3,14 so very close to 3,15
using 1,37 if you get as a result 0,4 you do 0,4 x 2 = 0,8 speed of target.

I still use the 3m15, because it makes evaluating the target's main course more precise over a longer distance.

Target distance is not a problem, just be carrefull about your torpedo range.
Again this is one of the best tutorial ive seen on the whole youtube ^^

He does explain a couple of time how important is to check your torpedo range, what i love with this method is the fact that you can apply this method witthout the need of the magui tablet, modded or non modded game you can use this method without problem.
