Hi all, I am having real difficulty getting within firing range of enemy warships.
Even if I am running at min speed or stopped, with periscope just breaking the surface I get spotted.
Please advise on how to avoid this.
Cheers
Edit: I am running TWOS mod pack.

Easy...don't attack warships. Attack what U-boats usually were engaging, poor merchants...:)

Many thanks for the reply vdr. My orders are: Destroy Polish task force + other shipping. I was assuming that meant the military ships as well.
I would still be interested in tactics for achieving a successful attack on a warship, say for clearing a route for following axis surface ships.

If you have to defend against a warship, ambush is your best tactic. Silent running and only allowing your periscope to just break the surface for seconds at a time to reduce the chance of the enemy watch detecting you. Firing a spread/salvo of torpedos set to max speed at the minimum safe range i.e 500 to 800 meters will give you the best chance of a kill.

You will be able to spot them before they spot you. Set a parallel course, ring up a full or flank bell to get well ahead of them, then start cutting in closer and closer before submerging. If done correctly, you'll end up well inside torpedo range and can then stop and drift in silent running, waiting for them to get close enough.
Quick looks with the scope and then dip back down.
Of course, this only works if you have enough of a lead that they can't advance their position when you are at a flank bell. If you have to catch up to them and they are faster than you at flank speed, radio it in and hope another unit gets them.
