So as part of my facelift to the TMO with RSRD campaign am working on, have Japan subs that were sunk by US submarines in proper time and locations etc so if player runs into them or if informed by ULTRA(plan to incorporate this) they can be sunk. Also will have a few randoms patrolling submerged.Eventual plan is if possible to have submerged enemy subs that will fire torpedoes(been told this is possible?).

I placed a few submerged Japanese submarines around the PTO, never could locate them despite knowing where they were supposed to be.Suspecting something was wrong. I placed one in shallow waters outside San Francisco and headed for it.Could hear it on bottom on sonar.Closed in and upon inspection, it was just sitting on the bottom just beyond the golden gate bridge, the starting point. Not moving at 4 knots at periscope depth as specific. I'm guessing the game sees this as a surface vessel and it wont work as a submarine even though you can specify a depth when placing the sub ? OR it just needs a tweak to some files. If so, which files?

Definitely want to get this worked out.

Also, anyone know if US DD's would depth charge an AI submarine?

keep me informed ! but yes I've heard that before..

we put them at PD, then you can hear them on sonar and not see them.. fire a spread at 65 feet deep and pray !

your sub has to have its depth set.. gosh that' was Peabody's finding !!

no they would fire at it with guns, cause it would still be on the surface...

I had the depth set at 18.3 meters, periscope depth. Sub was dead and on the bottom. Is there a fix? Does there need to be two versions, one for surface and one submerged?

Here's what I've found out in my little bit of testing. You can either have one surfaced and moving, OR submerged and stationary. That said, I recall a certain mission from TMO(?) with a surfaced Type IX that would submerge upon detection of the player.
