Hello folks,

finally, the two models seem ready for release. The work on Southampton started in Dezember 2015, and on Fiji in October 2016. It is relieve to have them completed.

Many thanks to Stefan Thimme for testing the models.

Instructions (PLEASE READ !!!)

A. GWX, WAC, NYGM, plain SH3

Download the respective mod package below. It is JoneSoft Mod Enabler ready and will replace older versions of the two ships.
GWX users please note, the starting date of Fiji is re-set to the original SH3 19390101, as also in WAC and NYGM, so Fiji may appear ealier when called for randomly. I guess that will happen very rarely. To avoid it completely, consider before installation to open the file CLFiji.cfg in the folder data\Roster\British\Sea of the mod with a text editor and replace AppearanceDate=19390101 by AppearanceDate=19400505.

Users of vanilla SH3 can also use the JoneSoft Mod Enabler for installation but need to edit the ship name files in the folder data\Sea; for details see the documentation file that comes with the mod package.

B. CCoM, LSH

Here, NCL_Southampton represents the German K class cruisers (weird but true). The Southampton is represented as NCL_TownClass. Consequently, a different set of files is required; see below. It is also JoneSoft Mod Enabler ready.

CL Southampton/CLFiji are very very nice. So, thanks to Your excellent work all British light cruisers in SH3 (except CL Dido) are modded. My hat's off to You, Sir.

One suggestion: the first texture (hull above waterline plus decks) uses a high value (115) for the Specular Strength. In result, horizontal surfaces shown strong reflection in bright sunshine (= shiny surfaces). I like the effect but not everybody is happy with it. To avoid the strong reflection, reduce the value for the Specular Strength to 30 or so.

it is crashing when i have your mod enabled

the crash is taking place while loading the start menu at about 35% of loading

tried it to both of my pcs...same behaviour

ps: when i am disabling your mod ,game is loading fine. Any idea that may help ?

It crashed also for me. After having deleted Airgroups in data\Sea\Unit\Unit.cfg, it works !

Oh well, the AirGroup problem again ...

Please apologise, I forgot to omit these entries from the *.cfg files.

The CTD occurs when no airplane named LBSWalrus is installed.

I replaced the download archives; the *.cfg files have the ArirGroup entries now removed.


P.S.: Folks, consider to find you the Walrus converted from SH5 to SH3 by Textpilot's. It's nice, even that the texture is very bleached.

In case of the Fiji a more elaborate change of outfits seems possible. I could try to compile estimates on the time periods the 29 skins provided were used.

GWX_Combined_Skin_Pack came into conflict with my install. I had to fix it.
You can just add to it.

... I see, the Fiji showing up with odd outfits is not so nice. Worse, the exchange of the Southampton.dat for another, completely different file leads straight to a CTD ...

I totally forgot about the Commander-based skin changing by date ... :oops:

There's plenty of other ships that I have not yet checked.

Right, I did several "replacements", including NDD_Tribal, NDD_J, NDD_S, NDD_Q, NDD_L ...
Well, in those cases only the textures become exchanged. In result the ship may look strange but at least there will be no CTD.

I do not use the GWX skin package in combination with the SH3 Commander. So, I won't be able to do a proper re-setup of the file structure.

Hello Anvar1961,

I might be able to create a SH3 commander texture change according to dates. However, it would also require to limit the textures in the mod to those used before 19390901. In turn, people not using the GWX skin pack would see only the pre-war skins until the end.

That would also mean to create even more versions of the Fiji / Southampton mod. I am not so happy with that idea.

Tested them tonight in Sea Warfare. Order of Battle: Type VIIC German U-Boat Compilation 2 ( Models by Wise ) FM New Interior 2D, Scharnhorst and Gneisenau. vs. HMS Rodney, x 2 Southampton Fiji, MOEF B-3 Escort Group. 1 H Class DD, 1 B Class DD, 1 Town Class DD, x 3 Flower Class Corvettes 1941-2 Variant. ( My WIP NCO_FlowerMOD Platinum Edition The Cruel Sea mod ).

What specular strength you use with the Flower's hull texture? The colours appear extremely bright as compared to those of Nigeria

Specular strength at beta test level! ( 255 ) reduction to occur when a degree of texture satisfaction is realized. I had my head wrapped around the rebuilding of the 271 radar lighthouse ( completed ) and forgot about my last entry in my textures. I also pulled all the waterstream nodes out of the .dat as they stopped working ( not sure of putting them back in but the effort and effect is dramatic )

Do you know who to ask about tweaking the Supermarine Walrus? I have been working on this since yesterday tweaking the model and textures for flying version ( Wethorford Brown? ) and fixed shipboard versions in two types. Also in this image I applied a file I made for the Flower Class Corvette, Weapon_Crew_BR Uniforms and Tommy Helmuts from Lookouts.Dat.

the conversion of the Walrus model from SH5 to SH3 has been done by Testpilot.

I like your work on the Walrus; especially the texturing is much, much improved. I noticed an issue with the folded wings version (open 3D mode); if you wish I could fix that.

Folded wings version was a rapid test, no solid interiors for wings, no correct mounting points for wheels down etc. I thought I would redo it after I'm done playing with the Model. I had got some inspiration from my youth when I had a 1/72 scale Matchbox Supermarine Walrus MkI Model. Then I recently watched this to be inspired to do a Wings Folded Version.

Since those screenshots, I built a Bristol Pegasus IV ( Lite version took 8 nodes to get it in ) and a Propeller, and Canted the Engine, Prop, and engine Nacelle 3 degrees port. and I added some missing Guy Wires. and Added Crew and Vickers MGs from UK_Guns.dat Tomorow I will build the Supercharger.

Yes walrus is remapped to textures from my hardrive I got at SAS1946 I shot a PM to the author for blessing at adapting to SH3. with permission also from testpilot1978 or Wethorford Brown I will release it as a Mod as the default 3D won't work. and there will be many different textures for FAA 1939-45 ( china white to small late war roundrals light gray underneath or seafoam ) also other operators Argentina. France, Ireland, Romania, Spain.

The gunner/observers are from WBs AI walrus unknown origin. I will measure size in Wings 3D also the walrus for comparison to known wingspan etc. the Bristol Pegasus was scaled to fit the plane. So,,,, minor tweaks "may" occur.

No worries, I compared the sizes in Wings3D; they are about right. So, it was just the perspective.

Waiting for permissions from SAS1946 Mission_Bug for textures. then I will ask permissions here. then a WIP Thread proper for the Supermarine Walrus. It is Close but of course the Walrus is out of scale. I have one resized and it gained more respect in overall look. But for now I will wait...

I have a question: I have noticed that your units take advange of the multi-texturing concept common to SHIII, IV and 5, but not exploited by devs in stock SHIII. The material naming part is clear to me, as it is more or less identical in SH5. In latter game, textures are assigned to each unit through entries in its roster cfg file which take StartDate, EndDate and a Frequency value into account. This is an example taken from SH5's Queen Eliabeth roster entry:

Hello gap,

I am aware of the possibility of configuring textures via the cfg file in the roster folder in SH4/SH5. Jeff Groves pointed out several times that the concept was already implemented in SH3.

For the HMS Skate but also the Southamptons and Fijis in have good information on the periods the different scheme were carried. To re-create the change of schemes over time, I tried the texture configuration via roster cfg (using only the TextureName entry) but the textures were still picked randomly from the texture list.

So, I guess, I did it not correctly ...

I am not aware of any example application of the configurable texture concept in SH3. It works well in SH4.

Hi again The_Frog,
I have one more question regarding your ships, I hope you don't mind me asking here :)

I have noticed that your models have the DynamicShadow controller linked to their main node and subsequent SHD_* nodes with DynamicShadowCast controllers attached. My question is; weren't SHIII shadows buggy and disabled with one of the ubi patches? Do your settings make any difference if shadow rendering if not manually re-enabled, or you included them 'just in case'?

Great question Gap hope there is a definitive answer, some of my future releases have SHD_* nodes and 3D models and some do not. I need to know if including them in everything is a worthwhile task. Dynamic shadow I think was porked and like you posted disabled in 1.4b by UBI.

as a matter of fact, the DynamicShaddow Cast does not work well if at all. It was buggy from the beginning and it could be, as mikey117us recalls, it was disabled with version 1.4.b.

Since I usually use original Ubi files as templates for my own fikles, I simply keep those controllers and the related nodes and, since it does take much effort, add them to new items, just in case ... :03:

In summary, there is absolutely no good reason to keep these nodes or add them to new models. On the other hand, they do no harm :O:
