Returning after a long shore leave

Hello friends,

I used to play SH3 and 4 on my old laptop all the time. Said laptop died on me. This has been nearly a year since I've played any subsims at all.

My new laptop actually runs SH5. I've been looking at different threads for a couple days but I'm overwhelmed by mod choices/lists/etc.

Is there a mod setup that can give me a GWX-esque playing experience? Looking for something to improve stock but also allows me to play with the realism settings for a bit until I learn this new game.

What you are looking for is definitely The Wolves of Steel or Sobers Mega Mod. Both are very good and offer the best of SH5, in terms of realism and balanced gameplay.
Sobers Mega Mod offers more options for customization as it is a collection of individual mods which you might enable/disable according to your taste and playing style, but the install process might take a bit longer, and you need to download the mods that are part of it one by one. On the other hand, TWoS is an all-in-one package with just a few optional mods that you can enable for custimizing your game, but it is perhaps more stable, as the mods it contains have been optimized/tweaked for working well together. Not to mention the fact that it got some unique features and bug fixes developped purposedly for it, that have not been made available as separate mods. :up:

Sobers Mega Mod .....TWoS

These were the two I was eyeballing but wasn't entirely too sure about them. I think I might lean towards Sobers to start with. I'll do some reading.

Welcome back Red!

I use TWoS myself, and find it to be rock solid, good saves, no real crashing (I only have had 1, and it was my fault). There is a YouTube video showing step by step how to install it. I'm sure the video is linked in the help section.

I've decided to try out Sobers first since I can customize the mod list but I'm running into an issue already during installation. I made my donation to subsim and downloaded the all-in-one file.

However, when I went to load the preset mod list that comes with it, the all-in-one was missing some. I managed to find all but one of them separately. I'm missing the "Manos Scopes patch for 8x5"

Is there anywhere I can go to find this?

EDIT: If I can't find it, I'll be trying TWoS first.

I wanted to jump into the action so I decided to start with TWoS first.

I have this awkward horizontal graphic distortion across the bottom of my screen and just below the middle. Any idea what might cause this? It's similar in color to the nav map and happens the moment I spawn into the bunker.

I can try to post a screenshot if that'd help.

Hi RO
Check that your gpu driver/s are up to date.
For AMD
Image scaling should be set to scale on the Gpu.
Maintain aspect ratio or
Scale image to full panel size.

For Nvidia
Select a scaling mode > Aspect ratio.
Perform scaling on > Gpu.

Do not enable TWOS until you have selected your New Career and started the tutorial as in the instructions.
After exiting the game you can enable the TWOS mods.
