i asked this question a long long time ago. i think it was makman who explained how to. but isnt there a way to adjust the light shafts that come through the clouds. im looking for a cleaner realistic look and not always seeing the heavenly angles shinning all the time.
thanks,

I'm almost sure it has to do with the shaders located in data\Shaders\Sky
For example in one of them there's this code with a parameter "related to sunlight shafts" in the comment:
float alpha = 30 + MiePhase * 0.1;// 0.1 is related to sunlight shafts ... should be larger than the shafts exposure
return float4(color, alpha);
But I have no idea what they do and how to work with shaders. You can start by trial and error!

Silent Hunter 5\data\Cfg\Lights
[HDR Exterior]
LightShaftsStrength=0.055
LightShaftsDensity=0.7
LightShaftsDecay=0.95
LightShaftsWeight=0.8
and also
Silent Hunter 5\data\Env\Clouds cfg file to some extent .
AmbientLightMultiplier=1.500000
DirectLightWrapAround=0.110000
