First of all, Hello! I am new to these forums and new to SH5. I have been Playing the game for a couple days, in vanilla, and think it's pretty great, minus the obvious bugs, with lots of potential.

Due to the bugs, I found my self on these forums quite often after googling numerous questions, most of which I found answers to, and also recognizing this as a friendly an active community. My hats off to all of you, Reminds me a lot of the forums for the game 'Orbiter'. Friendly, Knowledgeable, Active.

On to My question... Can I manually Install mods into SH5? Such as, Downloading the file, Unzipping and what not, and finally dragging and dropping modded files to the corresponding Vanilla ones.

I know this could be a mod to mod basis but, in general, is it a working option? Specifically, Is it possible if SH5 was downloaded Via Steam.

I ask because After watching a video of Open Horizons being installed in such a way (unspecified whether or not is was a steam version) and it seems easier than trying to replace the .EXE file with a Ubisoft version, Which I could not get to work. I'm also okay with spending extensive time troubleshooting my own Mod list compatibility (If any of you are players of Kerbal Space Program, you might understand that Sentiment). More over, I saw that JSGME has been unworking for some time, so it seems I dont have any option.

Getting anymore specific, would TDW work in such a way? From My understanding, TDW Generic Patcher seems like the Foundation Mod, and should be considered Vanilla 2.0.

If anyone Could help me out with some info or a link to a topic like this, I would Really Appreciate it. :)

You can install any mods with Steam.

I ask because After watching a video of Open Horizons being installed in such a way (unspecified whether or not is was a steam version)Irrelevant as I said.

TDW Generic Patcher seems like the Foundation ModNot a mod its an application and can be installed as a stand alone anywhere or enabled from within TDW's NewUI 7-5-0 base mod.

Vanilla is bugged and broken.

Use one of the mega mods like sobers or TWOS after converting the Steam application.
Making your own mod lists is not worth the time or trouble as you will spend more time fixing it than playing the game.
The mega mods are very reliable.

Alright, I am a bit Confused.

The last that I saw, JSGME's download link did not work, based on that I assumed the utility was non-functioning. If the utility is still compatible, I would appreciate a download link. I saw a 'Legacy' file on Nexusmods, but I would like to know if I can trust it.

Furthermore, I thought that TDW Did not work with STEAM, which I wish to re-iterate is my version of the game, unless you got the Ubisoft version of 'SH5.exe' which I have tried to get but failed multiple times. To me TDW seems like the most important addition to SH5. From what I have seen, TDW fixes alot of bugs in the stock game. I therefore assume that most, if not all mods, are reliant on these patches. Am I wrong in thinking this?

I have gone through the link "New to SH5? Look At this" and it doesnt mention JsGME at all.

I am sorry if I am being a bit dense, but until I get a map in my head of how the game files interact with eachother, im going to be pretty cautious.

P.S. Thank you all for the warm Welcomes to the forum.

Hi Krieger
The last that I saw, JSGME's download link did not work,The download is working ok in my tutorial.
Installation instructions also for this and many others.

TDW Did not work with STEAM,That is correct, TDW's Generic File Patcher does not work with Steam unless you use the fix.

if not all mods, are reliant on these patches. Am I wrong in thinking this?It would depend on the particular mod.

until I get a map in my head of how the game files interact with eachother, im going to be pretty cautious.
You need to get the fix working or buy a different SH5 version.
Then you can install the TWOS mega mod which has full instructions.
Check it out.
