Anyone tried to make a depth charge attack indicator for this sim? Its my understanding this device was developed in 1944 and used in U.S. fleet boats.

I'm trying to buy a vowel here and can't find one for sale. Can you give us a link so we can find out exactly what the device was and how it worked?

Found a little bit about the Depth Charge Direction Indicator on Google, but not a whole lot.

Very interesting

I had absolutely no idea such a thing existed:)

Absolutely fascinating. Since this isn't even close to anything for which the game generates data, I can't see how it could be implemented. Mods have to use some game input in order to work.

Wow! What a find!

I know less than nothing about modding but what about the fact that in external view, during depth charge attacks, there is a graphical representation of where the exploding depth charges are in relation to the sub? I take it there is no data generated or causing that?

Data is generated for the graphical engine to present it yes.
There is no easy way to grab that data and recreate the DCDI actions though.

How did they do the "depth charges in the water!" in the SSI Silent Hunter v1? It was in there, baked in the cake already?

You'd hear a pretty obvious splash when the DCs were dropped, the volume of which depended on how far away the DD was from you. No vocal report, however.

Also I remember this from SH3 - which I still have installed

Whenever DDs drop depthcharge, your sound guy would report 'Wasserbombe' vocally

He would not however tell you where they were in relation to your sub

But it would at least give you some idea of what was going on outside your sub - very important if you are playing with no external cams

Once we got to SH4 the relationship seemed to be broken - so playing SH4 you got no warning from the sound guy

Ducimus figured this out, and fixed a workaround

He made the depth charge spash sound so much louder, that you would be bound to hear it from your submerged sub, if you were paying attention

Still didn't tell you where the attack was coming from though :)

You were paying attention to where all those destroyers were, weren't you???:03:

Some of the features added to SH4 broke features from SH3.
if you were there from SH1 through SH5?
You'd see so much lost that could have been used to create a killer version!

No "easy" way... Jeff-Groves has his thinking cap on...
