View Full Version : Searhing for program for tweaking the AI.sensors.dat
SO most info in the title i am searching for program to edit ai.sensors like to tweak sonars min surface. I want it because stieblers premade is for 8km atmosphere and I am using 12km GWX
Anyone know a good program too tweak it
The dat file only contains sensor's nodes, you should edit AI.sensors.sim instead. This is the file where AI sensor controllers are stored. You can easily open the file and edit sensors parameters using Silent3ditor.
Sorry gap,
there is NO AI_Sensors.sim file. All items are in the AI_Sensors.dat. And Niume got his answer, look at the thread below.

So SHIII sensor controllers are stored directly in the dat file? My experience is based mostly on SH5 where those controllers are located in sensors sim file, but I thought that the same applied to SHIII and SHIV. I am sorry for spreading misinformation, my bad :doh: :D

Hi,
I think there is also the file Sim.cfg in data\Cfg ?
I have a problem in SH3 : even if i'm detected and the destroyers are just in front of me and i hear pings, my discretion indicator is always green and i'm never located (while i'm at periscope depth). That's strange ... May i post my values ? Anyone could tell me what's wronfg ? :doh::o
I found a way but i am in bit a trouble can someone send me Gwx ai_sensors ?

So, here are my values :
In data\Library\AI_Sensors.dat :
Node - AI_Sonar
Type=Hydrophone
MinRange=100
MaxRange=4000
MinHeight=-300
MaxHeight=-10
MinBearing=0
MaxBearing=45
MinElevation=80
MaxElevation=100
MinSurface=0
Sensitivity=0
Node - Type123A
Type=Hydrophone
MinRange=0
MaxRange=1200
MinHeight=-300
MaxHeight=-10
MinBearing=0
MaxBearing=90
MinElevation=90
MaxElevation=100
MinSurface=0
Sensitivity=0,04
In data\Cfg\Sim.cfg :
[Sonar]
Detection time=20 ;[s]
Sensitivity=0.03 ;(0..1)
Waves factor=0.5 ;[>=0]
Speed factor=20 ;[kt]
Enemy surface factor=200 ;[m2]
Lose time=30 ;[s]
What's wrong ?? :06:

I'm never detected by the sonar (crew of destroyer is veteran, and i'm at periscope depth).

My favorite Searchmachine tells me that Type123A is horizontally fixed by "...about 6 degrees below the horizon...". So there is nothing wrong to be not detected on periscopedepth.
If you like to start hating the game, then set MaxHeight to 0.
Greetings.
AT what depth under the keel are you are you not detected?
I mean how much meters you are away from bottom of the sea

@ Hebe Vollmaus : It doesn't change anything.
So, i begin to hear pings only when the destroyer is 500 meters from me. And pings stop when destroyer is 300 meters from me. My indicator is always green, sometimes yellow when i hear pings. -----> I'm never detected ! :down:
@Niume : depth under keel is 300 meters.

Wind speed is 10 m/s. I wonder if it is the problem ... :06:

"AI_Sonar" is not assigned to any unit I know...

Hi,
GWX 3.0 is the only mod i'm using. Maybe i've made some modifivations, but i don't remember when and where ... :doh:
What other files could control the sensors ?
I was attacked by a veteran class C destroyer equipped with a Type123A sonar. He couldn't detect me at all. Year is early 1941.
I assume it's not normal... :hmmm: Or SH3 is a so easy game ? :hmph:

But it should.
AI_Sonar is Sonar, not Hydrophone.
Type123A is Sonar, not Hydrophone.
You know the U505 Mission. There it is easy to test.
When the Mission starts, do nothing but hold the deep. Normaly you get not detected. Let the Destroyer go and you will win.
Make a Mod. Set MaxHeight to 0 on QCIA. (This is what the Evarts und Buckley use in the mission 1944.) You get more or less immediatly detected and you loose.

I launched U-505 mission :
First, i didn't do anything, the 3 destroyers passed near me without knowing i was there. Then, i went full speed ahead and the destroyer that was on my right (Buckley) detected me with her hydrophone. So, i get back to slow speed. I let the destroyer go on me. My indicator is red only when she is only 300 meters from me. She dropped depth charges but i got only minor damages to the flak. Then, i took a course to have my stern right towards her, and she didn't find me again. She launched 2 more times depth charges (far from me), and then went back to the escort of Casablanca carrier. The 4 other destroyers (Evarts class) didn't attack me ... EASY !!! :) :-?
Next time, i will try with MaxHeight to 0 on QCIA.

My message on Mission U505 useing UC1A was wrong.
As one can clearly see inGame, the Evart use Hedgehoc. This means it may not use the Version-Date as shown in Missioneditor, or the Configuration-Date as seen in the Mission itself by an Editor like Notepad.
So when set MaxHeight to 0 on all Hydro and Sonar should have the same negative effect, as the positive effect of set MinHeight to 1 on Radar and Lookout to let the user snorkeling a bit without detection.
I dont know wich Point the Sim uses to calculate the subs-position, but MaxHeight to 0 should increase the Subs-Detection-surface on Periscopedepth by 10m and the let the Hydro-Sonar-beam go upto the Waterline and not break it 10m below.
Greetings.

In case of using S3D with AI_Sensors and have reversed Sonar/Hydrophone or vice versa may be like this:
...
In data\Library\AI_Sensors.dat :
Node - AI_Sonar
Type=Hydrophone
compare your installed S3D obj_Sensor.cs with this:
