Getting set up to play: New Game & Join tips: list your Evolve name here

This thread will be for tips on getting set up to play. Skvader will tweak the network functionality as the game development progresses and eventually we will easily be able to set up games via Steam. For now, with the demo, here are some tips and instructions on workarounds to play.

Post your Evolve name in this thread. Mine is Subsim


Once you have Evolve set up, you can add people as friends (don't worry, I won't ask you to help me clean the garage).
To close Evolve, right click the system tray icon and Exit.
Evolve may need to be restarted to update the Friends list.
Firewall: depending on your anti-virus, you may need to add hmsmarulken144 to pgrams that are allowed to connect, or temporarily turn off the firewall.

Hello all! I just joined Subsim because of HMS Marulken (and whatever it will eventually be named!)

I've been looking for good submarine games for quite a while. I'm a fan of all things naval, age of sail, age of steam, modern, above and below the waterline!

It's an app for playing the demo (https://www.evolvehq.com/welcome). When the game comes out, it will use Steam for connecting, so it will be much easier.

So, I got on Evolve about 2 weeks ago & downloaded the client. Set up my nick as above.

Since then I get an error trying to get in and on the web when I type evolve.com I get taken to the Oracle web page.

I just bought my headset & mic to play too, so I'm posting here my IP address to see if anyone can connect. 99.254.65.85
however, when I launch the demo the IP showing is 192.168.0.13 don't know why.

Because of the way the original demo was created, before we got to the point where we knew it would be a Steam-powered game, it worked on LANs, and to use it over the internet needed Evolve to simulate a LAN.

How's your Swedish coming along? New issue, on loading the demo it automatically puts an IP address in. How do you put in a different one that you want to connect to?

Ok, when you get some guys to start a game, with Evolve, you want to have them use the IP shown in Evolve for the guy who will be hosting.

You should be able to backspace out the IP that appears when you start the game and paste this new one in.

Evolve, it turns out, has gone bust, and soon no-one will be able to use it.

It was a VPN service, not the same thing as Discord.

I also came here looking to play HMS Marulken... now we have to wait for someone to come up with an alternative solution.

Alternative for Evolve;

i used Tunngle successfully to play a game with someone, worked straight away.
it is free but has some weird advertisement.

you download client, make account if you have none, and make private network. other person join your network and you connect with the virtual ip you get in the vpn.
