So I was playing a mission yesterday in a kilo. I had a strong layer at 140m and was stalking a Walrus class submarine that was sitting above it. This senario brought up a question.

Is there any way in dw (I have RA mod) that I could fire my torpedo so that it would run below the layer, and then when enabled, would pop up above the layer and take the enemy sub by suprise, giving him less time to evade and me more time to move out of the way of any snap shot down the bearing.

Thanks

Torpedo before activation travels on launch depth. After activation torpedo will go to depth set in fire control station.

So since you'd have to be below the layer to have a torpedo run beneath the layer, you'd have to determine in your situation if maneuvering beneath the layer to fire makes sense. With a target sub like the Walrus, which is rather slow, another option is to reduce the run speed of your torpedo. It'll take longer before the Walrus detects it.

I did that too, I also launched one set to passive search, and one active. I set the speed on the passive fish to lower to increase the seekers ability to hear, and sent it off first, and then followed about 15 seconds later with the active fish. The active torpedo spooked up the walrus with it's pings and it ran at flank speed after dropping an active countermeasure, making it a perfect target for my passive fish listening to all the noise.

It was just too bad there was a 688 class ssn lurking below the layer not to far away, otherwise I would have gotten away with it....

The RA mod has a lot of extra weapon control characteristics built into the mod, depending on the weapon used.

Some are enabled through the initial settings, and some through "codes" that you can trigger while in wire-guide mode (typically with the Pre-enable/Enable button).

If you haven't already, I'd suggest taking a look at the RA Weapon Guide for the weapon you were using and play around with the settings.

Thanks for the heads up mike, I have looked in the weapons guide for some weapons but it was pretty well just missiles, I didn't look at torps.

It's just too bad the kilo class only uses the uset 80, which isn't a bad torpedo, but being mostly an Akula driver, I tend to use the UGST more often.

In RA, the UGST gets a lot more "extra" settings than the USET-80, so it's definitely going to be a step back.
