View Full Version : TB 16 vs TB 29
On DW 1.04 is the TB 29 the Starboard or Port array?

Pretty sure it's the starboard. I know starboard is the default array in the Seawolf and the default is the more sensitive one, so, yeah, TB-29 is starboard.
Thanks FPS,
The in game USNI sensor info identifies the Seawolf Starboard array as the TB 29 and the Port as the TB 16. The 02/04/07 Subguru Quick Reference Sheet DW ver 1.04 reverses the USNI information.
USNI states both Starboard and Port arrays on the 688i are TB 16s. The Subguru Quick Reference Sheet DW ver 1.04 for the 688i states: "PORT + STBD (TB-16): less sensitive, less washout"
So we have conflicting information on the Seawolf Towed Arrays, and it sounds like the 1.04 version 688i has two TB-16s and no TB-23 or TB-29.
I guess I need to do some testing. How were you able to determine the STBD array was more sensitive than the PORT array?
More Info
LwAmi has replaced the DW Stock ver 1.04 Starboard Towed Array TB-16 with the TB-23.

2.2.2 Sensors
· The Seawolf’s hull array no longer has a forward baffle.
· The TB-23 towed array has replaced the starboard TB-16 on the Los Angeles. This array was placed on the starboard side instead of the port side (where it is located in the real world) because the starboard array is the default array, and the TB-23 is more sensitive. The TB-23’s sensitivity is about halfway between the TB-16 and TB-29 and begins to wash out above 14 knots.
Towed array lengths: TB-16: 2600ft, TB-23: 2950 ft, TB-29: 3300 ft."

The starboard washes out more quickly and I've flipped back and forth between them to see contacts on the TB-29 that could not be seen on the TB-16.
Here's some language from the Dangerous Waters manual. Always go to the source (I work in the nuclear industry, so quoting "regulations" is half of my job haha):
The Seawolf has two towed arrays the TB-29 and the TB-16. In general, the TB-29 is longer and more sensitive than the TB-16, but the TB-16 remains effective at higher speeds.
