Hello every Subsimers,

I will soon reveal to you my great project, a project that I started there more than a year. It is not totally completed for now. But the work is nearly finished. All the environment's colors and textures have been improved. Day and night, sunrises, good weather and storms, the environment is completely new, and more realistic than ever. You will find below some previews of my mod. I will regularly add some new pics here.

Don't hesitate to give me some suggestions.

hello Fahnenbohn,

How did you manage to get it read 8 textures ? i remember that i had added (in my tests) two extra images for sky and water but the game didn't read them at all.
see the following pic (none of the letters T,W,X or E ever appeared on sky or water):

I think I'm going to add an option for less dark nights. Originally, my goal was to create a realistic environment. But that means that with an overcast sky, the night is completely black. So it's not great for gameplay. What do you think, gentlemen ?

I wonder how it was possible to attack submerged during nights with no moon, in RL life ... Only with the hydrophone ? So, you have to learn this method : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RWDWd62q4w

I wonder also how it was possible for convoys to navigate in such conditions without collisions. I'm not a sailor, so if someone could explain to me the night navigation.

Hmm, in my opinion the waves looks on this picture much better, sorry....:hmmm:

And the light fog over the hills in background looks more realistic, I think!

But it's also hard to get in to the reference MEP.

No problem mate ! :up: We all have different tastes. I'm not saying that my mod is better than makman's mod. It's just a different approach. No environment mod will never be perfect, especially in SH3 ! :)

Yes for the vegetation kit.
No for the Terrain.cfg without terrain textures (that is a non sense).
No interest for crew files if you don't use dark nights.

For "Helgoland textures by TigerKatziTatzi" you probably need to provide a proper "TerrainTypes.raw" file.
I don't know for GWX, LSH, WAC, but in NYGM and Stock game there is no index 54 in the file "TerrainTypes.raw".
The game continue to read Helgoland with it's original index and don't use your new textures.
It is not big problem, because in NYGM and Stock, Helgoland is flat, and will use only Tex01 and Tex02. So it is not so interesting and important.

I intend to use your new mod Fahnenbohn but I have a question first. My intent is to use it with GWX, WAC, and maybe LSH3 too.

So at what point in installing mods should it be placed? Asking to find out what mods might overwrite parts of it.

And from your posted screenshots of it, I say it looks great. Kind of makes SH3 look a bit more like SH5's graphics.

You should install FBE mod at the end, after all other mods. But there may be a conflict with mods that are changing particles, like SH4 effects for SH3. If you really want to have this mod, then you have to install it after FBE. In this case, you won't see lightnings as on the picture I've posted.

I am working on SH4 effects in order to improve smokes, maybe add real orange light for the fire, and improve the lightnings as in FBE. But first, I have to re-install my corrupted SH3 ...

Also Iīm working on new explosions for SH4 and SH3 based in SH5 effects. But I have a problem with the particles: in light fires, I have little pops of smoke, and donīt look realistic. It seems Iambecomelife find a solution for Wolfes of the Kaiser mod (WIP). Also Maddy of FOTRS find a solution for SH5 fires in SH4 in FOTRS v2 but I donīt get to implement it in my FOTRSv13 and GFO installations.

To be continued in the correct thread....

For this environment mod: itīs needed to apply your 16k extension mod, or we have the problem of mountains and coast with polygons, etc. The same solution implemented by you and Makman in MEPv6 20k.

I think the 2nd pic as well. IIRC the North Atlantic gets very dark blue waters, but I guess that depends on where you're patrolling. I still like the dark blue for sky and water. My 2 cents. :)

In fact, it will be rather a v 1.2, because not everything will be changed. It will be only an update.

Planned improvments :

- a clean horizon without dark fog
- lights effects on the water
- an option to add a 20 km atmosphere
- better underwater colors without strips effects
- less dark nights for more playability
- realistic climates zones (thanks to Tycho (God bless him !), see here (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=225726))

...

If you have other ideas, don't hesitate. Your opinion is important for me !

Perhaps the darkest nights open more opportunities for UZO. I specifically use them with pleasure before it 43

Yes, there will still be shadows, but the sky will be a little less .... black ! So you can more easily see them !

I recommend making the horizon a bit hazier as it's in GWX Gold with the 8 km atmosphere. For my taste those blurred ship silhouettes just within eyesight look so realistic. :03:
Besides, I think it would be better to make some soft transition between the sky and the sea, it seems too sharp to me.
Finally, is it possible to create bigger and more intense looking rain drops, I find the ones in your previous mod a bit light. By the way, I absolutely love those lightnings especially at night.

Hi, I tried your mod but had some weird happenings. I don't know if it's something on my end but...

a) I've been seeing lightning that originates up close and below my conning tower;
b) only cloudy skies load properly, any other sky just looks black.

I'll post my JSGME list if you want it but I'm not running any other major texture/environment mods.

I'm also running the V16B patch which is installed directly.

After spending ~20 hours getting a stable install I was out of patience for fiddling so I had uninstalled your mod but I'll re-enable it and get some screenshots asap.

Mmh, i see that my mod is grey in your list. That means that another mod is overwritting one of my files. Disable this mod, start your game, and see if it's okay now.

Just to update you: I performed a complete re-install and your mod works fine now. I think the problem was due to either a) the fact that I had installed to C:/Program Files or b) my addition of the new Senin.tga from the 'clearsky clouds' mod. The latter is a 3+ meg file and it seems like my laptop can't handle hi-res textures that size, as I've had CTDs from Pascal's Port People among others.

I wish to try your graphics mod. I have GWX3 + GWX enhanced Damage effects (EDE) installed.

When I try to activate your mod using JSGME, it says " 'particles.dat' has already been altered by the 'GWX - Enhanced Damage Effects" mod.' " Can I ignore this alert or should I disable EDE?
