Can you please post a pic or pics showing as near as you can the type of vehicle in which you learned to drive (so that may not necessarily be your own first car). Try to get it as exact as possible, including colour, so no modifications unless they were present on the vehicle you yourself drove.
Here's mine: a 1968-74 Ford Escort Mk1, yellow...

I can't remember the actual car I was doing my driving lessons in before I had to stop, some fairly modern motor with...ugh...power stearing, but the car I practiced in between lessons which was going to be my own had things not taken a turn for the financially worse was:

When I took Driver's Education in 1966 I only just squeaked past with the bare minimum to pass. What killed me was parallel parking. When I took the test to get my first license I got 100%. I attribute this to the fact that the Torrance, California test lot had big whip antennae to park between so you wouldn't hurt someone else's car. They were far enough apart to put a Cadillac into, so that little Monza had no trouble at all.
Almost fifty years later I still have trouble parallel parking.

I do not remember what type of drivers ed cars we had. This was the car my parents had at the time.
P.S. Steve, my dad taught my mom to drive in a 1961 red Corvair Monza.

My father's NSU RO 80, which I took for a ride being only 16 in Germany... The first car I drove. I'm glad that nobody took notice, I was not allowed to take the car...

I remember thinking when I was young what a fabulous modern-looking car the 1968 NSU Ro80 was in my Brooke Bond (trading card) album:hmm2: It still looks pretty to me...

I learned on 3 different cars.
The first was the standard driving school car of the late 90ies. The VW Golf MK IV:
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/54/1012554/3866323361626237.jpg
However it was sold before I finished my training and the replacement car wasn't delivered yet so I took a few lessons on a VW Polo III which was the spare car of the school and gas powered instead of the normal diesel engines in training cars:

Finally the replacement car arrived and I got to drive my third car within a few weeks, an Audi A3:

1975 AMC Matador. The only thing different is no stripe on the side and regular hub-capped wheels. Think Dad had had white walls on it too.

The one I had was not this shiny.
1964 Pontiac Star Chief. I have no photos of it, so the one below is off the web. It had a white body with a dark Green top, dark green interior, and an electric front bench seat. Great for Saturday nights after the dance. :D

Yeah! As a Brit, I can hardly believe the HUGE cars some of you guys in the US learned to drive in. When you see a learner driver over here, he's in a small car creeping nervously along, almost on the grass verge.

Yes, it seemed to be from the next century. A lot of AUDI cars looked rather similar, TWENTY years later...:smug:

I learned to drive in full size vehicles but I can't stand to drive bigger vehicles anymore.
I can zip around, squeeze through gaps and park without much effort in my Focus....but in a big truck I can't do a lot of things i do in smaller cars.
Although I do really like driving muscle/sport cars, for a daily driver, i'd much rather have something smaller.

I learned to drive in a Toyota Van.

I learned to drive a manual in about 30 minutes in a VW transporter called the Pickel cause they messed up its repaint and it looked like a pickel more than olive drab. Anyway the guy riding with me didn't want to drive so he asked me if I knew the concept of stick I said yeah. So he tossed me the keys and statered reading Stars and Stripes.

This old boat. i was driving at 13 on the farm, but this is the one I learned to drive on the road. Same colour just really badly faded. Flat head 6, 3 on the tree, standard steering and brakes. I was 15 when I stole it, twice. Dads' car, but I did take it without his permission.

It wasn't that fast a car, 80 MPH. The back seat was big enough for me at aged 11 to stretch out without my feet on the door or my head either.

^ YUP you learned to drive...and then long about '74 I LEARNED to drive: 'head on a swivel, combat defense driving'...and everything I thought I knew up to that point...went out the window; but at least: The back seat (sleeper) was big enough for me at aged 23 to stretch out without my feet on the door or my head either:D MY best 'kiddie kar' ever: http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/pix/trucks/frtlnr/container_1.jpgI saw the world in this!

No power steering in that Freightliner or air condtioning. ^Of course not! Real men (logged 350 days a year two years straight) don't need that girly-man stuff. Actually there was AC but usually it died in Gila AZ in the middle of June. The driver's side had an air ride seat and there was no separate trailer brake. Adeptness with a wrench was required to set up all the axel brakes closings in sequence (to the quarter turn). Note the open vent in the driver door BBY!:O: that's the real AC. I did have a CB radidio, smelly sheepskin seat cover, and a Whistler radar detector; stealthily concealed when traversing Virginia...how high tech was that!!??:yeah: But seriously, we MUST stay on thread here: My first auto- motive luv:http://www.cb750cafe.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/kid.jpg (http://www.cb750cafe.com/blog/vintage-pedal-cars-are-always-awesome-to-check-out/attachment/kid/)https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/e3/36/85/e336852cfafe9bbfe7ee67ef96afb8fd.jpg By age three, I had mastered the intricacies of navigation, steering and road rage!:woot:
1976/77 Chrysler Galant GL, it was my dads,i had problems with hill starts so he took of my watch and put it behind the back tyre and told me if i rolled back i would lose it, i burned out the clutch but kept the watch :D
