The MaGui Mod ~ U-BOOT_HAHD Edition

Still in WIP (mostly at its adjustments files for each supermod and not at its core),this is my final UI builted for sh3 .
this UI was started about 3,5 years ago for the U-BOOT_HAHD project (http://www.uboothahd.com/index.html) but ,finally (as you all know by now the fate of this project), it will be released as Standalone for each supermod.
My friend John (aka Reaper7) helped me VERY much on this project with his tremendous skills(Thank you John:salute:).Thanks to John,for the first time,sh3's players will be able to have in their hand a very important TDC dial (the Impact Angle Dial.have a look about the info that this dial is supplying here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2S714vSnz8) and ,also for the first time, will have an original U-Jagd Clock (100 sec/round).
Unfortunatelly , the 'Clicable' Stopwatches didn't work every time we fire up our pcs so i will not include them in the release.the 'Clicable' Stopwatches need further search but ,without doubt , Reaper7 was damn close to it. you can have a look about it here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GutjFGuDbmE
Historical U-boat Scope's Reticles and FOV (based on info-documents supplied by Hitman-Thank you Alberto:salute:) for both Scopes (Attack and Observation),historical Reticles and FOV for UZO and Binoculars,historical FOV for Deckgun ,for first time Highly Accurate Dials to all elements (TDC's and U-boat's), a historical design (as Sh3's engine allowed) and fully working TDC ,a historical design (as Sh3's engine allowed) and fully working Fat-Lut Torpedo Panel,historical and working clocks (Stopwatch ,U-jagd and U-boat's Clock),a complete redesign to a even more detailed,bigger and accurate Range-AoB Finder Tool,even more Improved Malloy's Ruler and even more accurate and bigger for all the rest Geometrical Tools ,a complete redesign to Navigation and Attack Maps pages, a complete redesign to all Menu Screens and pages , a new Kriegsmarine Compass,working Indicators for the Open Tubes and many many other stuff ...(the list seriously goes on).
The Code for this UI is completely written from scratch and i builted that way so everybody can very easily customize it to his tastes with very (and i mean...very) simple steps (instructions will be included with the release).
The Mod is still in WIP stage but pretty close to its final shape.

it will be released at three resolutions : 1024x768 , 1360x768 and 1680x1050
there was one more resolution at 1600x900 but i left it unfinished as i thought that after 1360x768 the most common would have been a ....1920x1080

it depends on which d3d9.cfg file you are going to edit. (and ,of course, on which d3d9.dll you are using)
if you are talking about editing the d3d9.cfg of the ''sh3_xpsp2_res_fix_for_14b'' (by Kegetys) then yes , it will work also at 1920x1200 :yep:
if you are talking about editing the d3d9.cfg that is in the files of MaGui (by Seeadler) then ... no it will not work. this file must not be edited becuase,yes, it will render the game at your desire resolution but the UI will keep following the coordinates of the 1680x1050.
my suggestion ,as you have a 16:10 monitor (1920x1200), is NOT to use the
''sh3_xpsp2_res_fix_for_14b'' at all as i am suspecting that you can use only one d3d9.dll and not both of them so ,in this case, you can use ONLY the d3d9.dll that is inside the files of MaGui.
The UI is written on 16:10 (1680x1050) so it will full your monitor (as it has the same res ratio) without stretching anything (i mean that circles will be ...circles on your screen). you will lose only the quality on 2d images as these are made for 1680x1050 resolution.( imagine something like an image to just enlarging it without changing its ratio)

you made a very nice observation
i saw the graph that you mentioned , it is showing how the values of deflection angle are depending of the values of track angle(for given target's and torpedo's speeds).it names as optimum track angle the:
''Optimum track angle is defined as the point of minimum deflection angle sensitivity to track angle errors for a given target speed. This minimum occurs at the points of zero slope on the curves in Figure 4 (these points are marked by small triangles)''
these points ( i mean the points of zero slope on the curves) are exactly the points where the fuctions appear their max or min values (in this case ,their max). in other words,the graph is naming as ''optimum track angle'' the track angle that is giving us the maximum deflection angle .
i see no logic behind all this , why on the max of deflection angle we have the best track angle ?
in my opinion the principles for the best impact angle are:
1) when torp is running on a 90 degrees impact course ,is 'looking' the full length of ship so target looks 'bigger' looking through torp's ''eyes'' and this ,also, reducing the possibilities for torp to miss becuase of some not so acurate target's data.
2)becuase of the detonators the torps had back then ,there was the possibility for torp not to explode if this angle was not in the area of 90 +- 20 degrees (so good track angles are 70 to 110 degrees)
i will keep be skeptical on this as i am thinking that maybe there is the possibillity for the torpedo's detonator to need to ''meet'' the hull of ship in a different than 90° due the big speed of target.i don't know if there are physics on these kind of collisions but i can't think something reasonable enough for not choosing the 90° as best impact angle.
one way or the other ,the impact dial will allow to players to choose whatever impact angle they prefer(90° or not) so ,even if the graph is correct, the users can take advantage of it
Patience is the best feature of any uboat commander, but after that what you described about this mod it's very difficult to wait thinking about how it will change the game. It looks fantastic and we wanna check this as fast as it's possible.
I'm waiting specially for your new MaGUI HAHD to start playing SH3 campaign again. :up:

To be honest, I still try to figure out the logic behind the "MAXIMUM" Deflection Angle. I believe that you have already understand that this graph represents the values of your BROKEN TDC METHOD charts for 46knotters.
Personally I believe that it has something to do with the turning rate of the target in the case of evading the torpedoes, or it gives somehow the maximum hit probability in the case of course/speed change or miscalculation which is also the case if the target is turning. The total target length has nothing to do, because this can be compensated by adjusting the SALVO SPREAD, which is based on the distance of the target, the Impact Angle, which defines the effective target length, the number of the desired hits and the desired overlapping.
i see no logic behind all this , why on the max of deflection angle we have the best track angle ?
It isn't really a matter of it being the maximum deflection, per se, but rather the point where the slope is at a minimum. Since the curve is flat at that point, any inaccuracy in the target's course will produce only a slight error at the target. If you are shooting at a 20 kn. target, a Ta of 115° would be ideal (defection of 26°). An error of 5° would give an error of, perhaps ½° (going by the chart). If you want to make an attack with a smaller deflection angle, say for a Ta of 160° (deflection of 14°), it is certainly possible, but your estimate of the target's course better be good; an error of 5° in the Ta, will give an error of about 3½°, much greater than at a Ta of 115°.
To put it another way, as you get away from the optimum track angle, the deflection angle changes faster and faster, making a hit increasingly difficult.

This is a common misunderstanding. We don't know what the target's turning abilities, or evasion abilities are. Calculations aimed at countering these would require specific data, and probably be very involved, as there are so many variables. The scope of the chart and data only encompasses errors in track angle or target's course. (There is a direct relationship between these.) Some writing favored 90° Ta's with the idea that the target must turn more to evade a torpedo, than with other angles. Doctrine wasn't the same everywhere, or at every time.

U-boot HAHD was cancelled unfortunately, but Makman, author of HAHD GUI, fortunately decided to release it as a standalone mod. This GUI looks superb, IMHO it will be the best GUI for SH3 ever made. I wait for it impatiently. With new U-boot models from Wise & Co. SH3 will looks like a new game.

The original rec manual that was made for U-BOOT-HAHD has two version. i made a ''penciled silhouettes'' version and John (aka Reaper7) made the ''dark silhouettes'' version and we made only the stock ships. these two versions can be seen here:

I am working from time to time on these files but i have no much free time or will so progress is very slow so i can't tell when i will be done with it.

Hey im working in caws extra for magui 3.4 and i would like to remplace original back disk for this version. Front was incluided in last casw but not back. I also have the lufwaffe version, but i cannot move external ring angule to calculate sin equation.

the last period i am full in moding motion again as i prepared a WS Gui and a reworked enviro mod for the WAC v5. This reworked enviro is the sequel of MEP v5 and ,as it started only for making some tiny changes to water color (i used the MEP v3 water on this), it ended up to have rework almost everything in it from reflection map,sunlights, reflection lights,ambient lights...etc and ,currently, i am working on a new wave model. this enviro will be the MEP v6 and it will be released with the WAC v5.
no , the U-BOOT HAHD Gui is not abandoned ...in fact i have worked even more on it some time ago. i created one more complete set on optics in which the objects ,at x1,5 magnification of attack scope,look 1,5 times bigger than their sizes as seen by the naked eye of observer.
So now, i have two sets of optics ,at the first one the objects ,at x1,5 magnification of AP,look exactly the same size as the naked eye of observer and ,at the second one, the objects ,at x1,5 magnification of ap,look 1,5 times bigger than their sizes as seen by the naked eye.
The question is which one was the historically correct in order to include it in the release (answers for that, i am searching around the net from time to time but no luck till today. I am waiting and the help from some members here who have read something about it and they are trying to find again the articles about it in their books).
When the time come , it will be out so till then just ...wait !

there was not,afaik, an ''original'' back disc ever seen . this disc is an american item (see here at don1reed post: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom//showthread.php?p=530782#post530782) which reworked later by Hitman in order to give it a ''german attack disc look'' to this: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom//showthread.php?t=114351&page=10
what you see above is a reworked version (on colors) in order to make it close to the the colors of the second version of attack disc that Hitman released and give the feeling to user that it is its back side.
this item is not released yet but you can use the allready released discs (in most ui mods you will find the files you need) and continue your work

i know makman94, but my idea of caws extra is to incorporate all functional charts (some from 1900x.. mod, others from JFO2), JFO2 (the main reason! single image to simplificate the integrated tga), the black and white reco charts (i dont remember how make it but i complete it with spect ratio) , real navigation, lighthouse icon, traditional reticule, off focus scope (still no) and tools as disk. i have old version of this calculus disc. i hope i will update with this version by estetic reason becose it have the black attack disc.
i will make a long text incluiding all the things i used from their mod, becose is my costumisation but i think someone could be interested. its a expansion of caws 1.61 based in magui3.4 ws.

this item is included in the WS Gui for WAC v5 so just be patient till the day of WAC v5's official release.
i don't know yet the date of the WAC's release but it will be very soon

Hello Jaxa,
my pc is having major problems , rebooting any time wants and also is showing me rarely blue screens. i have saved my work on an external HDD but currently i am using a weak pc for surfing and watching videos.
I can't mod on this pc so i will continue modding when i find the cause of the problems in my main pc which seems to me like its hard disc is about to die.

Increasing the backup-frequency is the best you can do in such a situation!
I can recommend what I do: I make a backup-zip of my Front-End & DEF-directories every week + after every major development-step + amonthly "big backup" which I burn to DVD.

I already like the MANOS optics for OLC GUI very much. So I don't know if I will prefer this new GUI to the one I'm presently using ... What about having so many dials if you don't use them ... :O:

in all MaGui(s) versions there are instructions of how to use its parts.In this coming version,there is only one part added (the impact angle dial) and its use will be explained in the readme files.

it is only the impact angle dial which is new for sh3 (but not for sh4). if you are not using all the dials, i guess ,it is due the methods you prefer using.But there are several methods for attacking-plotting and the ui is not designed for one person only

hust a few words about graphics....
nice graphics are always wellcome but the MaGui is more than that and i would say that graphics are the last to be mentioned.the more work took place at its optics (propotions,accuracy,disortion from sh3's engine,historical layout and a huppy surprise for the fans of 'eye-candies' which i will reveal with the release).
Another part that took lot of work is the 100% accurate and historical layout dials for depth,speed,compass,battery,oxygen,compressed air...etc.
These dials never were so accurate and now they are. Some of them are showing in the video and all of them are made from absolute scratch.
I can say much more about it and why graphics are last to be mentioned but it is better to let the mod speak by itself when it comes out there.

Some recomendation: some charts from caws or caws extra, Lucio reco plain pages for mfm. The logarithmic scale for uzo (could be a separated folder) with no one score bearing ring. I didn't seem it but the attack ring fur time calculation is needed in real navigation.
Your guiis are my favorites, beautiful and wonderful, thanks for experiences.

Its rechtweisende Peilung in singular and rechtweisende Peilungen in plural. I would use the singular but it obviously depends on the sentence and what you want to express.
