Checking back in with a quick question.

I seem to recall that when I played OM before, it was impossible to promote as a captain (IE - you'd never got offered a newer boat).

Can anyone confirm this?

Cannot not be confirmed, you will be offered a new boat but more like as it was in reality. A Typ VII Kaleun would never get promoted to Type IX boat for example. But with in the same type you will eventually get a newer boat.

AH, that makes sense. Thats probably what was happening before! However, if I start with a Type II then, does that mean I'm stuck w/ the old canoe the entire war?

I think that you can get promoted from type II to VII but not 100 % sure. Read the description of the flotillas. Lurker stayed pretty close to reality. Reality is that there were no Kaleuns who started on a Type II Boat and ended up on Type IX Boat. The career was totally different, and they did not survive long enough either...
Some of the highly decorated Kaleuns were promoted to training facilities.

Promotion from Typ II to VII usually takes place in autumn 1941, shortly after the relocation of the flotillas to France.
