View Full Version : MaGui Widescreen and GWX
I'm a bit puzzled about getting these two mods working together properly. The installation readme for MaGUI Widescreen indicates that no FIX modfile is necessary if you run it with GWX. However, Makman's downloads page offers a Widescreen MaGui v3.4-SA FIX for GWX v3 file. The installation readme included with this fix instructs to use the included FIX modfile (obviously).
The FIX readme is dated December 12, 2013, which makes it more recent than the MaGui Widescreen readme (May 26, 2013). So perhaps the FIX is needed, and the Widescreen readme is out of date? I'm not sure
And lastly, I'm using GWX Gold, not GWX v3. I'm not sure if the changes from v3 to Gold make any difference with respect to MaGui Widescreen, so this is another source of puzzlement for me.
I searched for answers to these questions, but found nothing that cleared them up completely. Any words of assistance would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

GWX3 is GWX Gold. they are the same thing.
On behalf of the entire GWX Mod Team, I am pleased to announce our 'Gold' release...
GWX version 3.0!!! http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=102096

Ah, okay, thanks for clearing that up. Any idea about my other puzzle: Do I need a FIX for GWX and MaGui Widescreen?
My take on this is that you do need to apply the "Fix for GWX3" after the Widescreen SA (Stand Alone) mod. As is written in the readme of the fix dated 17th december 2013. It shouldn't hurt that much. If the game doesn't work once you did then it is easily reverted with JSGME. Just make sure you do a few test patrols before dedicating your playtime to an entire campaign. (Caveat: have not used these mods myself lately. So no personal experience in the right way of installing it.)
It doesn't say what changes it made, but I guess he found some bugs after the release of the standalone version in may that needed squashing to make it behave with GWX3 as he intended.
Yeah, that seems the most plausible set of circumstances for the creation of the FIX file.
I was rather hoping to avoid testing the two possibilities. I've got experience writing mods and playing with mods for a good many games, and I know that sometimes you just need to test things on your own, but it's a daunting task to start playing a game by testing a bunch of mods -- you don't really know what you should be looking for, aside from CTD's and the like.
Still, no one has chimed in with specific answers, so I think you're right: best to just try it and see.

Sorry, I have no clue, as I don't use any widescreen mods.

I'm not sure if you need the fix, (I assume you do), but if it helps, I am running GWX Gold with it activated and everything is running smoothly so far :ping:
