The mod is a widescreen 1360x768 version of Charts Addon 1.4. It is meant for Widescreen Magui, but might work with other SH3 versions of similar screen proportions as well. I've only playtested the mod for WS MaGui+NYGM 3.6F, so don't be surprised if it doesn't work in a different setup.The mod is untested in career mode, so there likely are some glitches, that I'll try to fix if absolutely necessary and I happen to have the time. Installation through JSGME.

New compared to Charts Addon 1.4. for MaGui F:

- Leitender's Anschütz compass added
- Maneuvering board made bigger
- added a chart that shows how to use the attack disc for multiplication
- replaced Hitman's Gegnerfahrttafel with a speed chart made by LGN1
- added a chart that aids in distinguishing between cloud types

Thanks Leitender for giving the permission to use your compass here! It really is a beauty :ping: Hopefully widescreen players that hesitate editing menu_1024_768.ini will give your compass a try through JSGME, and then start experimenting with finetuning the game themselves :arrgh!:

BTW, I still get Hitman's Gegnerfahrttafel, and no new speed chart. Am I just missing it? I'm fine with Hitman's chart, but curious to see the new one.:)

That's curious. Do you see the speed table in the Layout folder? I named the new table gegnerfahrt.tga, just like the old table by Hitman. I'm on my phone right now but I'll have a look at this when I get to my laptop.

Never mind! :oops:

Some time in the distant past - maybe day before yesterday - I had swapped Hitman's Gegnerfahrttafel for LGN1's. Then I promptly forgot I had done so.

So I loaded up your Charts Addon v1.5 and looked for the "new" Gegnerfahrttafel. Guess what? It looked just like the "old" one! :doh:

Having read the war diary of U-480 over in the U-boatarchive I realised that at least some late war U-boats actually estimated regularly the speeds of the merchants and the escorts through listening to their propellers' sounds. Counting the screws and deducting the RPM's per minute from that :arrgh!:

That's why I made this SH3MissionEditor Mission where I let German type 34 destroyers run by me at different speeds. I counted the RPM's and took screenshots for a crude guesstimation of speed based on how the smoke coming from the funnels behave :ping:

This was something the Germans could have done very easily during the war. Of course it's possible that the type 34 destroyer's screw sounds are totally different to a Town class or River Class :dead:

Anyways, I'm planning on maybe adding the chart to Charts Addon one day. Here's the tga for anyone who wants to try it :salute:

The easiest way to try it, is just to drop it into the layout folder in charts Addon. Then it replaces the chart that tells how to multiply with an attack disc.

For anyone already using Charts Addon, just drop the tga's into the Layout folder. The new tga's will replace some of the old ones. Make backups if you want to keep the old ones!

I might make a new version of Charts Addon for MaGui WS some day, and then I'll do the menu work as well. For now it's just experimental :ping:

LGN1's SH3 Log mod forces one to make an estimation of the GRT of the ships one has sunk. With all the ships one can mod into SH3 nowadays, it sometimes happens, that one sinks a ship one does not recognize. In these cases I guess most of us just make a crude guess about the GRT.

The US Coast Guard has a formula for GRT calculations. Here's the formula changed into the metric system:

I haven't had time to try this in the game yet, so I'm not 100% sure I made the feet to meters conversion right, so maybe doublecheck the results with the recognition manual when possible.

I am at present using a 16:10 monitor but am looking to get a 16:9 with a res of 1920x1080 will your chart mod display ok, or will I have to manipulate the .ini?

It will load, but the charts will be here and there and there are some charts that would be on your way all the time. You would need to manually edit every x value by adding something like 560 pixels. Basically easy, but takes a lot of work and you would need to that to every TGA that the mod contains.

I'm not sure. I've always played SH3 with a laptop so I don't know much about how monitors react. I think you need to just try it with JSGME and see how it looks like. The pixel size is the thing that's important. 1360 x pixels, 768 y pixels and it works, anything else and the charts are not in the intended places.

Not with JSGME. Using it with Ahnenerbe GUI would need a lot of editing the menu_1024_768.ini file.

If you get it edited, don't hesitate to release it as a mod for Ahnenerbe 1920x1020. I don't have a monitor that I could use to do the work myself.

But...
Oh maaaan it's to hard for me. I tried to compare first Ahnenerbe and your .ini with Ultra compare software to find differece and just add it to Ahnenerb menu.ini that i think it is releated with your .tga layout. But i got allways stuck at loading screen...I think i'm doing something wrong:/\\!!:hmmm:
Btw what means for example [Gxx Ixx]? I think that i overwrite some Ahnenerbe important [Gxx Ixx] with yours with same name and then got stuck.

Latemail made a really big manual, but it is in German. I may have the file somewhere on my computer, but I haven't seen it for a while.

If you start editing the menu file, be sure to learn how to use this handy tool by h.sie that automatically renumbers the menu_1024_768.ini file:

What I would do, if I had a bigger resolution monitor:

1. Use JSGME to put Charts Addon on top of Ahnenerbe
2. See which pictures are out of place - the pictures that are located to the left side of the screen are probably ok without any changes needed
3. Take Charts Addon off with JSGME
4. Have a look at the Charts Addon folder with the TGA's to find the names of the TGA's that are in the wrong places
5. Open menu_1024_768.ini file
6. Find (shortcut Ctrl+F) the misplaced TGA's one by one
7. Edit the POS line of every misplaced TGA by adding 560 to every x value
(If it was POS=0,0,785,686 you would change it to POS=560,0,785,686)

BUT:

Leitender's Anschütz compass is a bit trickier to install, as one needs to find the correct menu groups (not the TGA's) that need changed POS values.

Additionally some of the ItemId=xxxxxxxxx values are probably duplicate with Ahnenerbe GUI, and you would need to find a new and unused hexadecimal number for those items that cause menu id conflicts.

SO:

I would recommend you make a couple of TGA's by yourself. Add just them (one or two TGA's) to Ahnenerbe, and when you learn the tricks of menu editing, then get back to Charts Addon and add the whole of the TGA's that you would like to add.

BTW, if anyone is using this mod with a 1366x768 resolution instead of a 1360x768 resolution, there is a 6 pixel error in the vertical lines of periscopes, deck gun, uzo and binoculars.

makman94 pointed the mistake out :up: I'm hopeful that with some assistance I might correct the mistake in the near future and release a tweak for those of us using 1366 width.

makman94 was kind enough to provide me with a fixed cameras.dat, and I was able to find a typo "´" in dials.cfg. The fixed version is now downloadable from the downloads section, version CAWS 1.61

Thanks a lot makman94, I would probably never haved spotted the mistakes without your keen eyes, and if I had noticed them, fixing them would have been hopeless without heavy outside assistance :salute:

Players who use a 1360x768 screen don't need to download the new version. Just open dials.cfg, search (CTRL+F) ´, delete the typo, and it should work as intended.

Players who use a 1366x768 screen need to download the new version as it contains a new cameras.dat modded by makman94. The cameras.dat in CAWS 1.61 fixes the 6 pixel error visible in the periscopes, uzo, deck gun and binoculars.

I was not happy with the maneuvering board of previous Charts Addon versions and after Tycho's KzS Notepad I decided to make another version. Bearings, times and ranges can now be written to the notepad, which gives some more room to work with. The maneuvering board looks like this now.

In the folder there are also three colored filters. The filters that are in CAWS 1.61 are too dark, and these might work better.

BTW, adding the maneuvering board will require menu work, as will adding Tycho's KzS Notepad. I've only put the TGA to the folder - it doesn't do anything by itself.

hi, this thing is great!

i made an alternative version of optional TMT wich suport and correct the errors, and let you play over gwx3 + magui ws 3.4.

i get better recono charts (incluiding l/h), add speedtable, some little stuf, retire old compass. torpedo clasical tables.

but i have 3 problems.
1) wish to get a bigger new compass, how i can get it 25 or 40% bigger? i dont know if it can work propiety with simple scaling.
2) i have 2 errors in late loading mision screen with out any trouble in the game, it gets 2 index. i dont found that index in menu file. What should i do to fix it.
3) dr3 sliderule have and issue, marker-dial dont move. Its not a big deal, i was plaing any way good but could be interesant to fit it too.

i loaded a version in other thead, but i was fixing more things so if someone can help me i can upload today the more complete version.

thanks, i will try to be sure its working. in caws folder there should be a note saying it. This weel is great!

Then there are only 2 problem to solve.
Tycho, you know about modding stuff. To get a bigger compass (with the new b/W compass). I should scalate raster for ini file or i shoud rezise the tga, get the size in ini and change the center of rotation pos (i dont know how asignate it yet).

If you resize a graphic element, then you must write the right size in the menu_.ini item for this graphic, and the proper position.

The first two digits are position, the second two are resolution.
In your case, may need this to be done not only for the graphic element item, but for some menu groups above that.You need to track ItemID and ParentID for that.

Or my method. Make one graphics file with, let it be a yellow dot in the center.
Name the file Lighthouse.tga. Place it in terrain\location folder, there have a file Lighthouse.dat.
Now the lighthouses will be visible on map, according to zoom parameter "HarborZoom=" in "data\Menu\cfg\Maps.cfg" and "ShowOnMap=true" in "terrain\Locations.cfg".

thanks, i will check the mod in this tread first and see if it directly solve the problem in the map. i asume for commets should be for gwx 2, in the worst case is an not updated.
also name some other olds mod. if it donsent work propietly in the map, i will make a chart or 2.

hi, light house worked by tga. the problem is that in gwx ports modification, incluided the minor lighthouses into ports, so should be modifiqued their tga.
it could be done, but i dont know how to open the 3d model to see all those minor light houses to incluide the symbol in tga.

Well I'm working in a version off caws + JFO2. I have the same error without issue on loading. When a new version of casw should be realised, I well correct it from scratch.

I can make lighthouse by easy war with invade but I cannot get transparency. How I get transparency when export to the. In file it have transparency but it get white after export.

Any one know witch is the name of the that shows the upgrade, what it sites when clicking ? Icon.

Sorry Deviruchi070, I didn't even try to make it user friendly as most players would still need to edit the files by hand anyways to make it compatible with their other mods.

By now I've forgotten most of the modding skills I had, so I can't really help here 😣

My suggestion is you try newer mods and when you are accustomed to editing SH3's menu files yourself, then come back to this mod.

Hi again ,

This mod is nearing perfection , but I'm trying to make the Leitender's Anschütz compass ; on my system it's quite unpractical as it pop's up on the right side on the screen , hiding important stuff from me .

Which tga file should I erase , and/or which line of the 1024*768 file should I correct ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as editing the .ini is quite tricky when you are new to it(I'm making good progress though ...)

-EDIT- After several days of intense trials , I don't want to erase the Leitenders's compass any more ! Disturbing at start when not used to it, but eventually you don't want to go without it , much better precision than any other one, and the way it pops up is finally very practical . Now , it's the MaGui compass that I would like to erase as these 2 are redundant . Still , if someone knows the name of the related TGA file I'm still very interested ) . Sorry , I was a fool , Leitender ; your work is gold .

Many thanks for this great stuff . Hope someone could help even in 2023.
