Help! I bought yesterday SH5, and I installed it last night.
Now, when I click 'play', it just comes up with...nothing. It used to at least start the UPlay launcher, but now THAT doesn't come up either!
I need help, and quick! :/\\!!:/\\!!:/\\!!
I am running Windows 8

I am surprised at the end of the installation you were not directed to Uplay as you will need a new account with email and password.

You cannot use your previous login and password as this is locked to your previous dvd.

If you click on the SH5.exe it should open up Uplay for you to log in.

Once this is done Uplay will ask for the disc's product key.

Do not forget to update your version to v1.2

You can see your current game version from the Control Panel in Programs an Features.

You should also be able to see the Ubisoft Game Launcher there as well.

Try this it worked for me, right click on the game and run as the administrator. That should do it

I have changed nothing on my PC
I went to play SH5, nothing, zilch
It was working fine last time I used it, Well it had decided to play itself via UBIPLAY and I had 20 tokens, completed the tutorial no problem

Now it just shuts down after it downloads update 1.2

It does not give me any option but to update, it does it itself

Back to SH4, Though I do prefer the Atlantic

OK. I found Berbster's post and tried running the u-play launcher as admin, no joy:wah:

uninstalled the launcher:up:
downloaded and re-installed the launcher:up:
tried running THAT as admin still no joy:dead:

It tells me that U-Play Login failed (there seems to be a problem with your internet connection)

Right... so all the downloading and posting I've been doing is being done HOW?

Can someone suggest something else? :hmmm:

Constructive suggestions are preferable but targeting co-ordinates for ubi-soft headquarters will be accepted as well.

Tried struggling with this again today. Still no joy.

At this point I've uninstalled everything and followed the Berbster's suggested step by step list to no avail.

I still get the u-pay logging in screen saying that there appears to be an internet problem.

I even checked my MS firewall settings. They show the game has unrestricted access.

Hi H.I.O

Quote > I still get the u-pay logging in screen saying that there appears to be an internet problem.

What is the exact message you are getting?

Did you uninstall the Ubisoft Game Launcher from the Control Panel?

Then went to your Program (x86) folder and deleted your Ubisoft Folder containing your Game Launcher Folder?

Did you run Registry Ccleaner and then Reboot your system?

Then Down load a new Game Launcher from here.

http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/675733-Ubisoft-Game-Launcher-Download-Forums (http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/675733-Ubisoft-Game-Launcher-Download-Forums)

This download will allow you to install wherever you want.

When the Game launcher has finished updating.

Go to the Game Launcher folder.

Open the folder and go to the 1st Game Launcher .exe application icon and run as administrator.

Good luck Peter

I followed your steps yet again.

I'd never run the registry cleaner before so I did that as well.

Made sure all vestigial files were deleted after uninstalling the launcher.

Downloaded a fresh copy via the link you provided and installed it.

Ran as admin.

updates happened... took longer than it had in the past.

got the login screen

Uplay login failed
The exact message is...
There seems to be a problem with your internet connection
Please check your settings or switch to off-line mode.

As a test I went to uplay.ubi.com in my chrome browser
logged in using the id and password I set up the other day
I was able to log in fine.

I did try opening the Chrome Browser and looking at https://127.0.0.1:13091
which showed in launcher_log.txt and saw this message
The webpage at https://127.0.0.1:13091/ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
Error code: ERR_CONNECTION_CLOSED

I'm still thinking that there may be some firewall problem but my MS firewall settings show it wide open for the launcher.
I need to check if my brother has some weird firewall protections on the main hub but otherwise...

no joy in mudville :-(

I don't know what it is supposed to be, but IP adress 127.0.0.1 is your own pc. It is reverecing itself. So with that link you were trying to access some local/internal http server on your pc. Perhaps part of the Ubi software, or it goofed up and chose a wrong ip adres.

Listed ALL the things we've tried here

I was given ticket #01905669 (nice to see they've had almost two million complaint tickets)

I'll let you know if anything positive results.

Got a reply back from Ubisoft suggesting that I go into the panel telling me that I couldn't connect to the internet and disable the proxy option.

By disabling the proxy option I was able to get one step closer.
I was able to enter my validation code and got an ubisoft screen with Play Silent Hunter 5 prominently featured in the center

However...
clicking on the PLAY button starts a movie (I'm guessing in 1280x mode) I'm running 1920 so it occupies the upper left portion of my screen
An intro movie starts but I can't hear anything.
Once the movie finishes, I'm not taken to any menus or anything to begin game play
Also the movie is in some kind of ALWAYS ON TOP mode. I can open windows task manager but cant see anything to try and stop it. The movie overlays everything.

I'm afraid I'm gonna need some more help getting beyond this point. I've added to the ubisoft support ticket and will report back.

Four hours after thanking them for the tip about getting past the login SNAFU and asking them for further help with getting the game to actually RUN:nope:

I got a response from them asking for copies of my DxDiag file and my "msinfo32" :woot:

I sent them both within an hour of receiving their response. Now the ball's back in their court. :hmmm:

Pressing the ESC key will stop the movie.

But it doesn't in this case. Neither does F1, or mouse clicking on the movie, or hitting enter, all methods that will sometimes work in other games.

I've added this to the problem report with ubisoft and we'll see what they say. So far they've asked me to send them my DxDiag file and my "msinfo32"

It will be interesting to see what they come up with.

They say that the game is NOT intended to run on my operating system.

My machine:
AMD FX(tm)-6300 Six-Core Processor, 3500 Mhz, 3 Core(s), 6 Logical Processor(s)
Operating System: Windows 8.1 64-bit (6.3, Build 9600)
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 16.0 GB 16384MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GT 640
Resolution 1920 x 1080 x 60 hertz
NVIDIA High Definition Audio
DirectX Version: DirectX 11

They suggested that I try compatibility mode. I CAN get the movie to play full screen but flickering in a (must be on top conflict) with sound if I go with an XP style compatibility. Still can't play the game or do anything else.

Gonna give up at this point. SH4 works fine.

I get the same message, but pressing escape at that point my game starts and plays fine.

I'm finally able to play this game.

You all were instrumental in getting me past some of the hurdles.

Ubisoft provided the clue that told me to disable the proxy setting and that allowed me to log in to U-Play.

And finally a STEAM user supplied the last bit of info...

The advice (Rightclick SH5.exe in the Steam Gamefolder of Silent Hunter 5 then choose Compatibilty Tab then set the X on "Disable scaling on High DPI) worked like a dream. (just for good measure I also ticked the box about "run as admin")

The missing piece! It now runs great (albeit a little slow in loading)
I can FINALLY try this game.

Thanks to all who helped.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

I've been pulling my hair out for 2 days, uninstalling, reinstalling, fart-arsing around and then I finally after many, MANY forum searches found this post because of the 'top left' line.

And your solution worked.

MODS - This thread needs condensing and stickying please!

If I could give you rep or kudos I would!

After a long dialog with a co-worker at UBI I manage to get my old e-mail account change to a preferred one-Even though I could not access my old e-mail account anymore(new internet provider)

Some hours ago I logged into my old account and wanted to play and was met with the message

"A Service is unavailable" Have sent a new message to this co-worker and asked him why i keep on getting this message.

I would uninstall the default game launcher from the Control Panels Program and Features.
Replace it with this genuine one on any drive and in any folder.
