There could be any number of different reasons as to why its happening.
It could be a corrupt save game, have you saved a save game over a previous save game? it has been known to cause problems.
Have you tried an earlier save game?
Have you modified any files?
More info will be needed before anyone can say for certain what has caused your game to malfunction.

hi,
since the latest Driver Update - recieving same Error.
Clicking x10 Times to get Started on to SH5
the Game isn^t playable, a few Bindings do not work, like Shortcuts, Mouseclicks to give Orders ..
Like i see, seems to be the Driver, trying to rollback or install Pre Version of your Drivers, otherwise - Save + reinstall your Game.

In my experience many SH4 crashes can be solved with the Large Address fix
http://www.subsowespac.org/the-patrol-zone/give-silent-hunter-4-a-memory-boost.shtml
But there are many other causes, and perhaps you've already done this. SH4 can be an odd one, for example sometimes I have repeated crashes attempting to load Operation Monsun saves, and a reboot lets them load right up.

I had to re-install the game, so it was stock, and crashed during a single mission selection. I Have noted that SH 4 is buggy on Windows 8 (Win 8 is very buggy all by itself)
I do have it running however, I don't know how long it will last.
Here is what I did to solve the problem:
1. Uninstall and delete all files associated with SH4
2. Run a registry cleaner, when finished- do a reboot and run the cleaner again- do a second reboot.
3. Up date computer's graphics programs and reboot
4. Install Silent Hunter 4 and reboot
5 Install 4-Gig patch/program
6. Run game and set up your preferences. Exit to desktop
Run game again-And try a mission.
So far its up and running on Win 8 and Win 8 like I stated earlier is buggered when running an Win XP program.
Thank You...

Are you applying the Win8-8.1 compatibility fix for the SH4 .exe. It should give the option to do this for Win XP Service Pack 3 Settings.
I have had no real issues after doing this. Using Win 8.1. Also remember not to install SH in the Program Files.

This is ok, but make sure you use an appropriate single mission for the test; some mods add new ships.
