View Full Version : What's a good water mod that goes well with TMO?

I love TMO but hate that floruscent blue color for the ocean it has.

Is there any mod that's confirmed to work well with TMO that makes the water look better, or at least more like vanilla SH4?

I use TMO 2.5 + improved stock environment v3 and realistic colors.

Works nicely

Would you mind posting a screenshot(s)? I'm curious as to how your game looks.

I still search right mod for water color, even realistic colors are too "donald duck" look :( (least in my high quality/calibrated ips monitor)

Stock look is better with its green/blue water color but other things suck.

So i need to learn to edit water colors my self :)

If you like stock water colors, just copy those number values, go to the env file, open it with the S3D editor and open the env atl file and it's rather easy to figure out.

After quik try i must say that its not so simple, many colors to adjust etc..

Stock settings result over bright and over green sea, must find balance :D:D:D

Depends...if you adjust the water color, just try to stay in the same tone/depth of color for that time of day, just adjust the color. Now, if you start adjusting other colors, then next thing you'll find yourself with an unrealistic or odd look and you have to adjust another set, which leads to another set. It's fun to do if you want a different look. Just note, during the day color itself doesn't mess with the AI, but change colors at night, it can. Also, the numerous light values strongly affect the AI at night.

You'll find 3 weather types, 1st one is for no clouds, 2 for clouds and 3rd is for overcast. For the most part most use same water colors for 1 and 2 weather type.

They're also a light/dark water setting in the scene.dat. Best I could figure it uses those colors when you load up, but they will cycle out in a day.

Not sure why you would have a grain issue, the files for that are elsewhere.

The best thing you could do is make a small mod, just copy the env atl file from TMO and make your changes, course using the correct path/folder structure for your mod. Much easier to test this way loading one file, rather than changing TMO itself and having to activate/deactivate it to test your changes..

My only issue with grain/noise is that i cant get it back, mods remove it ?

I like stock noise effect in (post processing effect)

I miss it more than water colors , so im 90% happy if some one tells me how to enable it :timeout::timeout::timeout:

There is a file "noise" somewhere in the data folder. I think it is in the "misc" folder. Copy the original noise file of default SH4 and replace the "noise" from TMO. And try if it works.

Very nice! Only a "but": I like the skies colours in a light blue tone. Your sky seems too blue for me. BTW, this is the same problem with TMO environment.

Is there some link to download your environment?

All the best.

Its based on OM pacific env mod, and sailors steve sea colors mod :) I just mixed those and make some adjust here and there and im very close of my dream of perfect sea :subsim:

btw.. its really blue in some real pics too, so hard to say what is perfect http://img.mota.ru/upload/wallpapers/source/2010/12/04/08/02/21867/mota_ru_0041212.jpg

And here we go:

http://efshare.com/?s=T9PFNG

Two 7zip compressed folders:
Clear sea.7z (69994 Bytes)
Plankton Back.7z (83568 Bytes)

Jsgme ready, install last after any mod compilation.

TMO 2.5 / RSCRD / Traveller mod 2.6 = All OK , just install last.

Clear sea: nice tropic color's and water. (not ultra realistic wanna be, more like looks good and gives pacific immersion) INSTALL LAST!

Plankton Back , just return stock plankton. I dont like clear swimpoll water so i made this. Install just before Clear sea mod. :woot:

That's always an issue, you can't please everyone. When Duci adjusted TMO, half loved it, half thought it way blue. After that, numerous envs came out, then people started making their own. If you like the colors or look, that's all that matters in the end...

Like I loved aspects of Travs mod, but thought the env. was horrible and had to go.

Travs mod is great but i needed to change env. Mod above comes with better (imho) env. (Env is from OM megamod (pacific mod that comes with it) and i just edited that for my personal feell )

Im quite happy now :salute:

hehe, you'll be tweaking more, most start they can't stop...just look at all the envs in the screenshot thread. What is fun is when you start tweaking the ai with it, but it becomes maddening. You can make it much more complex than it is by adding array items. I often thought about adding another weather type just to see what it would do, but not sure how code times them or if another one would even kick in. Be nice to have a few different sunset looks, but I never tried it..

Yea, loved travs mod, most of it, but thought the env was terrible. His solid shaders for the clouds didn't work for me, nor the colors. I also stopped at an earlier version, think 2.2 and tweaked it to my liking.

One thing you might have fun with is tweaking nights, colors and light have a great impact on the ai. I preferred much darker colors at night than TMO, but much more use of light factors. Gives a more realistic look and you can pull off realistic night surface attacks...

I might load up and play again soon, been about a year or more now..
