This is a great article about how Minnesota owes Adrian Peterson and apology. I have no idea as to why they haven't given him one already.:03:

"Adrian,
I want to apologize, on behalf of the Vikings, for paying you millions of dollars to carry the ball 21 times in 2014. That St. Louis Rams defense was ferocious.

I want to apologize, on behalf of the Vikings, for holding a press conference, just hours after your indictment, defending your honor. Even though this press conference made the franchise look extremely foolish under a national spotlight -- subsequently infuriating fans, media, the NFL and Radisson Hotels - I apologize.

I want to apologize, on behalf of the Vikings, for Matt Asiata (http://www.1500espn.com/pages/roster.php?pID=248) and his 3.5 yards per carry. I know how frustrating that must have been for you to watch from afar.

I want to apologize, on behalf of the Vikings, for ignoring the itch to restructure your contract and instead offering to pay your 2015 salary of $12+ million in full - and $15 million toward the salary cap - despite the non-guaranteed nature of said contract, your age (30) at a volatile position and your injury history.

I also want to apologize, Adrian, on behalf of the Vikings, for offering this chance at redemption -- a chance to play for the Vikings again in 2015 despite all that transpired. Most of the fans, media and people in the organization believed a second chance was warranted in this situation, but clearly that was a misread.

And finally, I want to apologize on behalf of the state of Minnesota, which callously charged you with injuring a child via a switch in the first place. If we had all just looked the other way, everything would be cool, right?
Wait, what? Oh, it was Texas that charged Peterson, not Minnesota?
OK, then I apologize on behalf of the state of Texas.
Well, you get the idea, Adrian. I, on behalf of the Vikings, feel horrible about all of our missteps over the past few months.
Hopefully you can forgive us"

This is the perfect example of what I call the "Too Soon Bias". I really wish that they'd wait until at least 5 years after the game has been played before putting it on polls like this. Personally i'd vote either the Ice Bowl, the 1958 NFL Championship Game or Super Bowl XIII as the best still. However i'll admit this game is for now at least in the top 10 best NFL games ever.

Jason, time to start the 2015 NFL thread, then I can close this one

Mr Quatro
04-27-15, 03:00 PM
Yes Mr Jason time is ticking away with the NFL draft coming up in three days.

Look what I found ... rumor of San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers bolting ship for the Titans: http://www.boltsfromtheblue.com/2015/4/26/8499285/san-diego-chargers-the-philip-rivers-trade-rumors-are-not-going-away

Yes, you've probably heard the rumors about Philip Rivers being traded to the Tennessee Titans. You've heard the team's GM give a non-answer when asked about it, and then backtrack the next day (http://www.boltsfromtheblue.com/2015/4/23/8486267/no-rivers-mariota-trade-talk-with-titans-says-lying-chargers-gm). Things should start dying down now, yes? No.
This part sounds like what the media should do about political stories, uh?

The media is ready to be done with the story. They really are. Nobody likes to devote this much ink and airtime to a potential storyline that might never happen.

It makes the whole thing look contrived. However, the Chargers are not letting them kill the story.

Mr Quatro
04-30-15, 05:12 PM
I guess Rivers was just making noise to get another contract.

NFL draft just a few hours away: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/latest-nfl-draft-buccaneers-clock-170311940--nfl.html

CHICAGO (AP) -- 3:51 p.m. (4:51 EDT)

Looked but could not find the 2015 official NFL thread, dang, Jason, you have one job to do....:shifty:

So, I just transformed the 2014 thread into the every year NFL thread, where we can cry about the Packers, scowl over the Pats, and hey, the Texans won a game last night with a dude who...

... was literally sitting on the couch drinking coffee when Texans general manager Rick Smith called him exactly three weeks ago and asked him to rejoin the team.

Yates hadn't thrown an NFL pass since Sept. 18, 2014.

In an annual ritual in the U.S, playoff football was initiated over the weekend with the " wildcard " games which culminate with the " Superbowl " These games pit the best of the National and American Football Conference against each other.

Over the weekend in the NFC, the Green Bay Packers played the Washington Redskins and won 35-18. The Seattle Seahawks beat the Minnesota Vikings 10-9.

In The AFC, the Kansas City Chiefs won over the Houston Texans 30-0.

Also in the AFC, the Pittsburgh Steelers played the Cincinnati Bengals.

Late in the game, in the 4th quarter, the Bengals were leading, holding onto a slim 16-15 lead, hoping to achieve their first post season win in 25 years. The Steelers were on the Bengals 47 yard line with 40 seconds left to play when Steeler Quarterback Ben Rothlisberger threw a pass to receiver Antonio Brown . Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict commited a 15 yard personal foul, hitting a defenseless receiver after the play was essentially over. Burfict tried to take off receiver Antonio Browns head on this play

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tfLncD3pGM
( Burfict injuring Antonio Brown )

Adam " Pacman " jones committed another 15 yard personal foul on the end of the play getting into a fight with a Steeler coach and " bumping " into a referee . Combined, the Bengals gave up 30 yards in personal foul penalties on one play where the Steelers easily kicked a 3 point field goal to win the game 18-16.

With so much to lose, the Bengals players selfishly denied their team a chance to move on in the playoffs. Both Adam " Pacman " Jones and
Vontaze Burfict are notorious " dirty " players . Burfict has been taped twisting an opposing players ankle after the opposing player had just come back from ankle surgery. Burfict has also been shown to engage in other actions as well. Their actions were costly to their team and could result in not only their suspensions but also the firing of their team coach, Marvin Lewis .

http://ftw.usatoday.com/2016/01/vontaze-burfict-dirty-player

" quote " Burfict is an embarrassment to the league, a master of the sort of head shot that could easily be eliminated from the game. Football is by nature a violent sport, but to the pretend it can’t get safer is nonsense.
Suspending Burfict for, oh, 10 games or so would be a start. Maybe he’d hesitate next time a player comes over the middle like Brown did.Looking back, it’s hard to understand what Vontaze Burfict was still doing out on the field for the Bengals. He had crossed the line all night, was clearly not in control of his emotions, and was flying in late on just about everything. It was clear that a massive, dangerous hit from Burfict wasn’t a matter of “if” but “when.” Unluckily for Bengals fans, that “when” was at the worst moment imaginable. " quote "

http://ftw.usatoday.com/2016/01/the-12-reasons-the-bengals-lost-ranked
The referees also bear a large measure of responsibility for allowing the game to go from a tough game to a dangerous one for the players involved. The Referees could have easily ejected the problem players.

The Cincinatti Bengal fans also contributed to the night when in their alcohol fueled frenzy, they threw been cans and objects at an injured Pittsburgh Steeler quarter back as he was being carted off the field after being injured by yes, you guessed it, Vontaze Burfict.

Steeler Wide receiver Antonio Brown could have been seriously injured, paralyzed or even killed with that incident. This is just a game but some want to take it to another level.

This " game "was as ugly and stupid as it gets but for Steeler fans, it was a " burfict " night

I think Burfict should be thrown out of football completely.

Congratulations to the Denver Broncos on their Superbowl win. I'm Happy for Denver and their fans. Peyton Manning at 39 is the oldest quarterback to play a Superbowl. Peyton Manning didn't play a great game with 13 of 23 passing for 141 yards with one interception and a lost fumble. With Denver's great defense though, it was enough. The question is, is this Peyton's last football game ?

Ironically, "Iron man " Brett Favre, Quarterback for the Green Bay packers for much of his career was voted into the Pro Football Hall Of fame on Saturday. Favre had played Football for 20 years and is now is 46 . Congrats to Brett Favre and Green Bay.

Quote : At the time of his retirement, Brett Favre was the NFL's all time leader in passing yards (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_National_Football_League_passing_yards_lea ders) and passing touchdowns (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_National_Football_League_passing_touchdown s_leaders), although both records have since been broken by Peyton Manning (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peyton_Manning).

Man, I miss George Blanda. He was playing in his late 40s when I was growing up.

http://www.pittsburghsportsreport.com/PSR/sites/default/files/UP%20CLOSE_Blanda-7_Oakland%20Raiders.jpg

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOfOhf3hpJI
(1970) Blanda, at age 43, had a remarkable five-game run. Against the Steelers, Blanda threw for three touchdowns in relief of an injured Daryle Lamonica.

One week later, his 48-yard field goal with three seconds remaining salvaged a 17–17 tie with the Kansas City Chiefs.

On November 8, Blanda once again came off the bench to throw for a touchdown pass to tie the Cleveland Browns with 1:34 remaining, then kicked a 53-yard field goal with 0:03 left for the 23–20 win. Immediately after the winning field goal, Raiders radio announcer Bill King excitedly declared, "George Blanda has just been elected King of the World!"

In the team's next game, Blanda replaced Lamonica in the fourth quarter and connected with Fred Biletnikoff on a touchdown pass with 2:28 left in the game to defeat the Denver Broncos, 24–19.

The streak concluded one week later when Blanda's 16-yard field goal in the closing seconds defeated the San Diego Chargers, 20–17.

Peyton loves the game and you may well be right. However, Peyton has had a number of injuries and missed a number of games. Peyton also had to take a pay cut although the winning of the superbowl put money back in his pocket according to the terms of his contract. Peyton had also been benched in favor of backup quarterback Brock Osweiler.

Peyton has quarterbacked the Denver Broncos yesterday and the Indianapolis colts in 2007 to Superbowl wins. Peyton has nothing left to prove and this would be a good time to go out as a winner. Peyton's name will come up I'm sure when the Hall of Fame balloting comes up though. Archie Manning, Peyton's dad, thinks Peyton will retire as well.

http://www.stampedeblue.com/2016/2/8/10938050/archie-manning-thinks-peyton-manning-is-done-in-denver

Kenny " the snake " Stabler quarterbacked the Oakland Raiders, Houston Oilers and New Orleans Saints. Kenny also took the Oakland Raiders to Superbowl 11 where they won 32-14 over the Minnesota Vikings. Kenny passed away in July of 2015 from Colon Cancer however,

Quote:

In February 2016, the New York Times reported that doctors in Massachusetts discovered high Stage 3 chronic traumatic encephalopathy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chronic_traumatic_encephalopathy) (CTE) in Stabler's brain after his death, which is caused by head trauma and concussions.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken_Stabler

For a lot of reasons including health, It seems reasonable Peyton will call it quits after this season and go out on top. Why put your health at risk at that point in your life ? Like you said August, this is just speculation at this point .

We will have to wait and see. Whatever Peyton does, I wish him the best.

There was also Bart Starr of the Green Bay Packers.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bart_Starr

Johnny Unitas of the Baltimore Colts.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_Unitas

Fran Tarkenton of the Minnesota Vikings who played from 1961-1978 with Minnesota and the NY Giants.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fran_Tarkenton

Bobby Layne who played 15 seasons in the NFL.
Quote : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobby_Layne

There are a lot more as well that can be mentioned. Keep in mind all of these quarterbacks and indeed, football players in general were payed very little and also had little in the way of protective equipment. They were all tough, gritty players.

As Webster said, most of them today are over payed Prima Donnas

A lot of people get into the Football or baseball games in the U.S. It's really no different than the fans in Europe with regards to Soccer ( Football ) or Hockey in Russia, Canada or in the Czech Republic. They love their sports there as well. It's the same as baseball in Japan.

I can't stand soccer, boring as hell :nope:
Since Jesenice Železar hockey team fell apart 3/4 of the country started watching NHL.
There's no ''game day'' celebration, preparing tons of food, tons of drink and then watch the game, there's none of that here. At most watching ski jumps with friends at the pub.

Don't worry, I have no intention of going to the actual game.
Just watching at some Americans house that loves the game with food and drink.

It wouldn't be the first time I hosted some Subsimmers. :)

I'm lucky to live next to the largest collection of museum warships that i know of. Within an hour of my house is a South Dakota class Battleship, a Des Moines class Heavy Cruiser, a Fletcher class destroyer, a Gearing class destroyer, an 18th century 44 gun Frigate, a Tarantul class Missile Corvette, a Balao class submarine, a 1950's testing Submarine, a Nautilus class nuclear submarine, an Elco type PT boat, a Higgins type PT boat, an XXVII U-boat and various other points of nautical interest including a whaling museum with the largest model ship in the world (1/2 scale).

Well I own 100 acres of it up in Maine but that's 6 hours away from here. On the other hand the great NE woods as you call them are all around us.

Lovely.
I'm always dreaming about hiking trough the endless forests of North America.

Slovenia has a lot of forest, right now we're third most forested country in Europe with 60% of the land being forests. But still, you're never more than 2 hours hike from civilization :(

You'll want to go a bit more west and north then because it would be difficult to find a spot around here that was more than a couple hours hike from some form of civilization.
Out in Alaska and most of western Canada on the other hand there are still spots that have never even felt the tread of man.

Here's a list of national forests ordered by size. You can see the biggest ones are all out west of the Mississippi.

Hiker Mistakenly Shot By Oregon Bear Hunter

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/10/24/sheriff-hiker-mistakenly-shot-by-hunter_n_1029105.html

A California member of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves was shot and killed in Oregon after authorities say a hunter mistook him for a bear.

Christopher Ochoa, a 20-year-old from French Camp, Calif., and a friend were hiking through a field in Western Oregon on the way to Silver Creek Falls Park on Friday evening.

Ochoa was wearing dark-colored clothing when an Oregon man hunting for bear with his 12-year-old grandson saw something moving in the brush and fired one shot from a .270-caliber rifle, striking Ochoa, the Marion County Sheriff's Office said ,,,

This is one of the saddest stories I have heard ... the poor man just wanted to walk across country
