So last weekend I finally picked up a Blue Ray player, and needed a movie to try it out with so I picked up Raiders of the Lost Ark.

My kids had never seen it.

We got to the submarine scene and I was annoyed that Indie was supposed to make the trip hanging out on the deck of the uboat. There was no watch crew on the bridge! And several of the cut scenes were below decks looking through a periscope, so presumably the sub had submerged.

What was indie doing all this time?

Did he lasso the periscope with his whip and he waterskied barefoot behind the boat?

Hey, we are speaking about Indie here. Show respect. :O:

And in the director's commentary track on the 'das boot' movie, they explain that the Uboat in raiders is in fact U-96.
Steven Spielberg stole the sub in an unguarded moment and used it for the sub scenes in his own film. At least he gave it back...

That question has been asked and discussed ad infinitum over the last thirty years.

According to the original shooting script that is exactly what he did. Well, not the skiing part.

No, he didn't steal it. He paid good money and rented it. The "theft" story started because someone forgot to tell the production crew, and they showed up for work to find the full-scale mock-up gone.

How does one misplace a submarine?
I would not like to be on the crew who was not told, and come into work that morning...

What I don't understand about Raiders of the Lost Ark is that even if Jones wasn't involved, the movie would have the same ending; Nazis open the Ark and get killed. Indy didn't actually change any of the consequences.

Well, it was a tribute to the old adventure movie serials from the 1930s, and makes about as much sense as they did. In other words, you're supposed to have fun with it, not think about it. You can actually see where each cliffhanger ending would be, every fifteen minutes or so. :sunny:

Well, I loved it when I was 6 years old, and it's held up pretty good!

Yeah! I was a kid when first saw it (I think I was around 6 or 7) and it was one of those movies of chidhood that firmly struck your little boy immagination for the subsequent years...
It was full of adventures, mistery, bad people, the great good guy with the cool hat and whip and the cave with the spiders, the traps, the pit with the snakes and so much action and so on and on... who needs logic? :har:

 No one saw him climb off the boat and into the sub pin either...but since the Nazi sub pin was supposedly located on a Greek island in the 30's that had been occupied by the Africa Corps years before it even existed where military testing was to be conducted on the Ark of the Covenant whos keeping up with that?
