Wow, very old Rapier. Unlikely to hit an A380 at half a mile, later variants were slightly better.

Booked the flights.

I'll fly in on the 11th, spend a day in London and the start to York on the 13th is flexible with me. As far as I'm concerned we can start before noon from Stansted.
My flight home is early morning on the 16th so the return trip is also flexible.

Oberon
06-24-14, 03:32 PM
I've got to get a taxi to the local train station and then into Ipswich by train since public transport around here on a Sunday is extremely sporadic. So, if we can work out a rough time period then I can work out what train I'll need to get and work out taxi costs.

TarJak

Ok I'll pick up Anze at Stanstead at 0930 and should be in Ipswich around 1030 to 1100 depending on traffic.

That should see us in York by 1600 at the latest including a pit stop for lunch.

How does that sound? If I'm running late I'll call to let you know.

Betonov
06-24-14, 04:07 PM
Sounds good.

I'll just have to check the train timetable how close to 9:30 it arrives in Stansted.

Let's just say roughly 9:30 and a pub as a rally point so waiting will be easier

TarJak
06-24-14, 04:19 PM
Roger that. I'll have to ID a pub nearby.

TarJak
06-24-14, 04:24 PM
Just looking at the map if you catch a train to Chelmsford instead I can pick you up there without backtracking to Ipswich. Let me know what you think.

Checked the rail connections you can get a train from Liverpool St Station at 0830 gets you to Chelsmford at 0911: http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/service/timesandfares/LST/CHM/130714/0830/dep

Where are you travelling from? I accidentally found Liverpool Street station once whilst trying to get from one side of Bank station to the other. Thank God that Bank is back to normal now, you had to go out of it and turn left to get to the other part of the station, so naturally I turned right... :/\\!!

Then, of course there's the time I got off the train one station too early, and only just managed to throw myself (with the wife following close behind) back through the doors as they were closing.

So, I might end up in Ipswich, or I might end up in Truro, it's a 50/50 chance really.

EDIT: Oh, and it's Liverpool Street station, not Liverpool station...because that's about two hundred miles to the north-west... :03:

I said at the latest. It's a 4ish hour drive to York from Ipswhich so If were out of there by 10:30 and don't stop (must look into getting some astronaut nappies), we can get there by 14:30ish at the earliest. If we stop for lunch and a wee, add an hour. If there's traffic or roadworks add who knows how long.

I'm all packed and ready to go so just gotta set the alarm for stupid o'clock so I can get up get the girls ready and head to the airport.

Sadly my plans for excitement are out the window. My mate is a rather rich guy and a pilot. He gives flights for 'the cost of fuel' and until very recently had offered them in his Christen Eagle biplane. Until even more recently he had a Mk. 26 Spit (I know, I know - still better than nothing) that was up for potential flights. Sadly for us he's even richer having flogged the both. Although now he's gone to the dark side with an R22 the price of 'fuel only' *cough* has gone up to £90 for 45 mins, which I think is beyond reasonable costs to us after travelling to the airfield too.

Still, frees up some time for drink or two.

Whilst you're up that way head over to Loch Ewe. Unlikely to be anything there unless there's an exercise on but still a nice place for remoteness and gorgeous scenery. And you can convince the wife to go as it's the most romantic place in the UK in the middle - the Isle of Ewe (say it). Takes a while to get there though.

What are you going to do with the other 59 minutes?

Right, I've done the timetables, and depending on how things go it'll either be 10:30 or 10:58, there's a pretty tight change at Colchester for the 10:30 arrival which could go sideways depending on how the trains are running, so the back-up train is the 10:58 arrival.

I'm afraid my smile will be more British than usual, bloody filling fell out! I've whacked some tooth protecting stuff in it to cover the nerve and will have to have it looked at when I get paid next.

Stupid fillings, falling out when you're asleep... :nope:

You and me both. Ate some crackling and lost half a tooth.

One last check that Anze and Jamie are ok for tomorrow's pick up at Chelmsford for 10:30? I'm staying about 20 mins away so either txt or call if plans go pear shaped. From Chelmsford it's about 3 and a half hours to York without a stop so we could be there as early as 1300 if we don't have any hold ups.

Oberon
07-12-14, 06:07 AM
Trains permitting, we should be there at 10:30 at the earliest. :yep:

EDIT: Btw, on the Tuesday, would you be able to drop us off at Ipswich on the way back? Preferably before 4-5pm since the buses start to dry up then.

TarJak
07-12-14, 07:07 AM
Don't see a problem with that depends on what time we leave York. Worst case I can drop you tot yours if we're delayed.

Hey!

I wasn't driving.

Still aiming for a lunchtime getaway, cross the bridge and through Pickering, the only bit I see slowing me down is actually finding the hotel in York.

I'll be at the station wearing a green John Deere cap
If the station will have a pub or cafe I'll be a patron of said establishment

TarJak

I'll be driving a black Ford Galaxy. Not the 60s version but the euro people mover. If I can find a park I'll also be wearing a cap which is pretty recognisable.

I'll get you Butler!

We should be in York by 1400 at the latest depending on traffic.

Persistently chucking it down here but hopefully I'll get beyond it as I drive south.

Peanuts compared to TarJak, but impressive for my first solo mission
