No need to worry about this...
I got some lo-res pics off the web and made a simple first model with Wings3D

This is a NYGM Hitman GUI extract, WIP of the Obs scope. Must still place all the items.

Moves the background camera when u turn the Periscope?

Afraid not... In periscope modes, SH3 only updates a small square section of the screen... This is where the scopes are placed.
The background is just a screen-grab which I placed, to give more 'atmosphere' .

@Hitman.. Thanks for the pic - Is it WW1 or WW2 vintage, as it looks very old.

It is a Zeiss NLSR9 model, WW2. The same as installed on U-995's control room.

It's become a tradeoff, as usual, between what is real, and computer functionality

This is the attack scope (advanced stage - although it's easily 'changeable') working within SH3 'restrictions'.
A few minor alignments and panel edge 'cleaning' and we'll be good to go - for testing !!

You may take a look on this site with historical pictures (in german):

Sehrohre (http://www.uboatnet.de/Technik/Die_Sehrohre.htm)

Hitman will know, what type it is

Kind regards

Thanks..
After a little work on this it seems impossible to mod it to even close to an original. I'll settle with the current 1920x1080 setup... after a bit of fiddling I'm settling down on this config..

Decided to go authentic as possible... I made the metal a bit darkish, hopefully to emulate brass under corrosive atmosphere in low light conditions. Also so that it's not too bright to spoil your vision at night.
These images are from PS (not in game) as my mod soup needs reorganising.

Here is the TDC in operation...
I've put those 'blanking plates' as switching between FAT/LUT and Normal torpedos seems hard coded, in that it blanks out the instruments in question.
If you don't mind 'hazards' it's no problem as the idea is to present easy speedy access to the dials when you're in a hurry for a solution. :D

That attack peri in the command room is not correct. Even if not the standing periscope (The one with saddle and pedals) all attack scopes would be in the conning tower in all boats.

I had a project for a full screen TDC for the F6 screen (horizontal) and I managed to put all dials in place, so they would not dissapear. When you have a non-LUT/FAT torpedo the dials would simply be fixed and you can't set them. Better looking than empty dials IMHO.

But still, if you need to have that empty space I would suggest that you make it the same as the TDC metal, maybe with a label or a screw, so that when you don't have those dials you still see a full metal case and not empty spaces filled with whatever.

Ja.. I've seen that.. but what can we do ? :)

As you say, I think the non-settable dials would look better.. I'll plonk those thing in.
Thanks

The best backgrounds (By a long amount of miles) that I have seen for submarine interiors for SH3 menus are the ones coming from SH5 screen captures. If was doing your project I would use retouched pics of the attack peri with the conning tower background and observation scope with the control room background.

I'm sure our friends in the SH5 forum will happily provide some screen captures on purpose :know:

hello Vanjast,

a 1920x1080 ui is really needed for the sh3 and it is very nice that you decided to go for it

Vanjast and Alberto: my opinion for the spoken backgrounds is to make them black ( or so shadowed that you can barely see a thing there). imo, whatever you see outside the hole of scope is just an immersion killer . think about it...,when the captain stick his eyes in the hole , can he see anything of the interior ?

all the best to your effort Vanjast

Ja, I realise that this is a problem, but also the captain has two eyes :D.
I have actually done this for the binocs and uzo, mainly for night time targeting. The scopes I wasn't to concerned about as there a red mask available - but will look into it.

Yes that is also why I did the ones in my GUI like that, but since Vanjast seemed to be willing to use backgrounds with the uboat, I suggested the SH5 pics as best solution.

yes , you are right Alberto, i misunderstand the post :/\\!!

@Vanjast: in this case, the best background for scope i have seen so far is made by Karamazovnew in his superb ui for sh4. you can find it in OM mod for sh4 . if i remember correct he had made some very high res background for his scopes (propably up to 1920) so have a look there too
