I'm looking for a way to edit messages any mods or methods within the stock game to do so? I searched the game files but didn't find any message file(s) that I could edit. :D My expertise is quite limited and I can bet yours isn't (LOL) :haha: Thanks in advance

As I recall that can be done in the Mission Editor

What kind of messages are you looking to edit?

Obviously the inbound / received ones - SH3 has a couple of mods that either increased or decreased the volume AND, more importantly, with Notepad you can go in and edit them

Go here Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific\Data\Campaigns\Campaign and find the file named messages.txt open it with wordpad or notepad.

Well I went in a made a message change in the file mentioned, saved it, backed out of the file, went back in and made sure that the change was there and it was. Then I started up my saved game and no new message appeared. So, I thought, maybe I have to start a new career, so i went in and made a message change and dated it for Dec 11 (1 day after the usual start date for a new career) saved that, made sure that change took hold, all looked well. I started a new career, went right past the time and date for my new message and no go, nada. So, I'm thinking now that there is some secondary "control" file or something - too bad, I wanted to add some personal touches. I wish I have the expertise and general gumption to go in and mess around all the files but I'm not a modder by any stretch of the imagination - thanks for your help. If you can think of anything else that I may be able to you I sure will try :)

Going in a slightly different direction I'm using Webster's Reduced Radio Traffic Mod and editing that with a WWII timeline from Olive-Drab.com and adding "personal" touches also. Happy hunting all!!
