I can't find a .dds plug in for this version. I found one but its telling me a libgimp-2.0-0.dll was not found. Anyone got a good download link for that plug in?

Main thing I get from googling that DLL is that allegedly gimp 2.8 needs a 64 bit system, won't run on 32 bit. I don't use gimp, but I have Paint Shop Pro 7 and could never get the DDS plugin to work on that.

I use DXTBmp (sixth one bottom row) to open DDS files, since that opens practically any image file and splits it so you can send either the main image or the alpha channel and send them to any image editor as a BMP temp file. After editing either or both save as DDS and you're good to go without any plugin. Works with any image editor, even plain vanilla Windows paint.

I cant use the one your using because I use Vista not supported. I tried the one for the 64bit system and it told me I was missing a file. Maybe I have to drop them into the program manually because the exe program didnt work. I looked into photoshop but its not vista compatible anymore would have to get an older version. So been one of those days....:06:

I got the DDS plugin to work with my PSP. The trick is, you have to use an older version. Unfortunately I can't send you a copy or tell you exactly where to find it because I eventually figured out how to get the Nvidia DDS plugin to work with my PSPX6(16). I don't know if the same method works on 7.

Gimp will work on a 32 bit system I have it installed on my 32 bit system and I have the DDs plug in.

Any questions about GIMP should be directed to them they are very good about answering questions.

THE PLUG IN ONLY WORKS OR IS ONLY DESIGNED TO WORK WITH VERSION GIMP 2.8 AND NEWER.

The DDs is here:

http://registry.gimp.org/node/70

http://code.google.com/p/gimp-dds/downloads/list

GIMP2.8 DOES NOT need a 64 bit system. It runs on 32 bit as well.

Version 2.8.10 will run on any of these systems :

Windows XP SP3 and XP x64 SP2
Windows Vista
Windows 7
Windows 8 and Windows 8.1
Windows Server 2003 SP2 and 2003 R2
Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2
Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2

WHEN YOU DOWNLOAD THE PLUG IN:

To install, extract files to your GIMP plugins directory.
This directory is usually located at:
C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins

IT'S IN THE README FILE

FOR THOSE WITH PAINT SHOP PRO

ftp://download.nvidia.com/developer/NVTextureSuite/Paint_Shop_Pro_Steps.pdf

Putting the dds.exe file in this download

http://code.google.com/p/gimp-dds/downloads/detail?name=gimp-dds-win64-3.0.1.zip&can=2&q=

into:

\GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins

worked for me. (Win 7 64bit)

Not all .dds files were shown in preview though.

You can use Paint.NET (there are free downloads) to edit .dds files.
