View Full Version : Aiming issues

I hope it's not a problem if I create new thread here

I have an issue with my aiming. Until now, I have been able to hit targets without any misses. But now, my torpedoes arrive a few meters ahead of the target. I am currently playing the Germany Blockade patrol. I am trying to hit an AMC, from 1300 meters (which is fairly easy). My AOB is a perfect 90 and the enemy ship is travelling at 14 knots.

I have reloaded the game over and over again and redone all the calculations and geometry on my map and the toprs still miss by a few meters, even though i have aimed at the middle of the ship. Basically, I have to let the whole ship pass the Y axis before I can shoot.

Does anyone have any idea what is happening? I remember reading in a mod's description that if you give the torpedo guy the ability to make torps faster, the TDC will act as if the torps have the base speed, but I only bought the perks to give them more damage and range. Could this be the issue? Or maybe it's something with this patrol?

I am going to do some further research myself, but if anyone can help me out, I would really appreciate it. I'll try to attack other targets as well and try reloading a previous save, before I bough those damage and range perks and see what happens.

A warm welcome “sir_drinkalot“ to the Subsim family. :subsim:

You will always find someone here to help you.

Remove the points from the "Torpedo Man" and retest your theory.

I would not give any points to him. Period.

Look in "Historical Missions" and check out the "Aob Tutorial" Plenty to practice on as soon as you load the game.

Have you enabled the "Torpedo Patches" in "TDW's Generic File Patcher"?

Howdy-do. A pleasure to be on board.

Reloading before spending the points is next on my list, but it will have to wait until morning. I got the hang of AoB and other settings, so I can definitely say that the torps don't miss due to incorrect settings.

As for the Torpedo Patches, no. I'm not even sure what the TDW's Generic File Patcher is. For the moment, my game is still vanilla from head to toe. I'm not finished reading everything about the available mods.

You need the patcher to fix the broken game :yep: Its like an unofficial patch 1.3 :yep:

Thanks for the tips.

Now... from what i've read, you have to be docked when installing something on a game, so it would work properly. Do I have to return to base and save or can I just install the mods or patches and load a save in which I'm already docked? I always keep a separate save for when I'me in the sub pen.

I love this forum :D

I manged to fix the aiming with the patcher. The torpedo guy with his perks was indeed the issue. The patcher has an option for disabling the speed bonus for torps. The best part is that I worked straight out of the box. Didn't need to start over from the base. I reloaded last night's save and I managed to hit the ship with pin-point accuracy.

Thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate it. :Kaleun_Salute:

Berbster, when posting it seems you always set the color to white. Finer for the web based forums, but when viewed in tapatalk (Android app) they can't be seen as tapatalk always has a white background... You might want to just leave the color alone.

I write my draft posts out on Microsoft Word which defaults to Black as you might expect. :)

I got told off for using Black and all the posts I see on Subsim are White in colour. :wah:

So I copy and paste from Word in White. :)

Now I am being told off for using a White colour. :wah:

I am writing this directly from Subsim's reply post and it is using White. :hmm2:

Any suggestions as to what I should be using? :/\\!!

Actually Subsim doesn't use white, but an off-white that can't be duplicated using the color chart, or at least as far as I've found. Compare the post you just made to the one two posts above. There is a very large difference.

That said, I don't know exactly what to tell you, as I never use my phone for anything other than talking. Black is hard to read with the SmartDark theme, which I use, and white is hard to read with the other forum themes. Sometimes you just can't win. :dead:

Depending on the mod soup you use there is a "No 1-2-3 Torpedo Alignment' mod you can use. Not sure if it's included in any OHII 2. ? mods or others, but it works great and is better than seeing those crappy 1-2-3 numbers in the TDC.

This one is normal. Dark on my phone (tablet actually) and off white on my desktop.

Darker 25% is better, but still hard to read on the tablet. 15% is worse on the tablet.

The thing to do (if possible) is to NOT dictate ANY color in your post - that way the system can use the default color for whatever platform is being used.

The colors aren't being shown as BB codes (stuff inside of "[" and "]") so I have no idea what's causing it...

Given the reason it's happening, if you can't sort it out easily, just forget it and carry on.

Hey, thanks for the mod list. I'm not sure i am going to install absolutely everything. I don't really mind stock graphics, especially because I don't want to put more strain on my machine. Maybe there is something to increase performance? I have noticed that on rare occasions my frame rate drops a bit if I have the mini-map out....

Anyway, right now I'm interested in the UI mod. Does it come with any charts (speeds and so on)? Or do I have to install those separately? In any case, it has to wait until the weekend. I work most of the day reviewing software and when I get home I don't have any more patience to move files about. Just a few well placed torpedoes is all I need to finish my day with a smile :D

OK... here's another one... I should pay a subscription or something, because I seem to keep coming back with more problems :nope:

How high do the periscopes rise for you guys? My observation scope is useless because it barely scratches the surface. The indicator shows it at zero, exactly on the waterline. Maybe it's typical on a type VIIB or the coning tower I have mounted?

The attack scope goes a bit higher... but right now I just rage quit the game, because there were waves and I couldn't mark my target, although I could see it clear as day. It is as if my crew didn't spot it. They finally saw it, I marked it, but before I could make any settings, it "disappeared" again. This game is buggy as hell.

No, you shouldn't. Donations do get some perks, but help is not one of them. Many people here have asked for help over the years, and many have learned and gone on to help others. The best thing you can do is keep asking questions and then down the road share what you've learned with others.

Of course donations are always welcome, but never required.

THEBERBSTER
03-07-14, 05:35 AM
Steve's absolutely right.

Donations are not compulsory.

Help is always given voluntary.

However Subsim does not run on thin air.

I know I have said this before, but it does sadden me when I see Subsimmers who have been part of the "Family" for a long time sometimes years still have not bothered to give something back. It maybe they have in other ways and they think that is their contribution. If so, so be it.

I got to a point where I thought I now know enough to give something back to others.

I know how difficult it can be when you start out.

You have a lot of questions but unfortunately as I found out when I started you do not always get the full answer to the question you have asked, and you are still left not really knowing what to do next.

It has taken me time but I am trying to address at least a few of the issues with some step by step tutorials and information that is going to help any "Newbie" from getting frustrated trying to set up SH.
