I mean, it's a beautiful game, the ocean, the underwater, the sky, the sunset, all those mods..its all beautiful.
I think most of us are playing sh5 just for that.
But personally...if i was a captain in WW2 of a german sub. I would rather sail of to some beach and enjoy a swim and a beauty of waves and nature.
I wish someone made a mod where i can go and swim rather than hunting and sinking ships, all those good ships...why?
We all know how nazis end up, do we really want to end up the same with this game?

Ship Simulator Extremes or 2011 would really please you I think, if you've never played them.

Yeah i bought Ship Simulator Extremes, its great but it doesn't have beautiful environment graphic like SH5.
I if you think about giants like Ubisoft and others, they are making pc games only for making money.
Then you will realize why is SH5 so buggy but it has almost perfect environment engine.
Ubisoft wanted to sold that environment engine and that's why they didn't care about fixing bugs.
SH5 was meant to be only the eye candy game just so they can earn money.
And now because of that many good people here are doing hard work for them, and destroying their lives by doing the job for Ubisoft for free, and after all the hard work here Ubisoft will take all the credit and make another buggy eye candy game only for money.
So anyway i love SH5 and good people here who are working for free, but Ubisoft and SH5 is only destroying everyone lives here.

Have you tried Virtual Sailor? I think it's free now.

The whole point of a submarine in WW2 was to sink ships. Making a game where that didn't happen would kind of defeat the whole purpose.

Thanks for the game tip.
But i'm sorry i would have to disagree with you.
I think a good captain of a WW2 sub knew that those are all good ships and what IS REALLY all about.

Just like a good "captain" here would also realize what is really going on between subsim.com and ubisoft!
Its just something to think about

Without modders, SH5 sales would have been something like that : :lost:

I don't understand how you can buy a war simulation game then not want to take part in the war effort.

Thanks for the game tip.

its called WAR not a disagreement or political bickering.

a "good capt." as you put it knows everyone he knows, his friends, neighbors, wife and family could well die if he doesn't sink every enemy ship he possibly can to shorten the war and protect all of them from being impacted by that war.

Its just something to think about

nothing is "going on" between subsim and ubisoft, yes they had a relatively good relationship with sh2 & sh3 but it soured with sh4 and pretty much dissolved as a working collaborative thing because some people released stuff that wasn't ok to release and the trust was broken. all it ever was is a group of us modders ho loved the game and wanted to make the next one better and ubisoft realized we were willing to work for free to help test and find problems that needed correcting. we were in fact just beta testers for them, there was never anything like a mutual collaborative partnership going on, it was all one sided. ubisoft used us as a free testing and research tool for producing the next game version and we were willing to be used for that purpose since we would be rewarded in the end with a much better game that we knew we were going to be buying and modding anyway. that's what is really going on between subsim.com and ubisoft!

with sh5 we were completely out of the loop and had no inside info as to what was coming or what was going on with it. we were all shocked as well to the extent they fubarred the game but we are modders and that is what we do so we took the challenge and started modding it, not for ubisoft to make money but for us to have a better game.

please don't ever suggest we are working to help ubisoft make more money, maybe that is the unintended result of our work but one has nothing to do with the other.

I have to disagree just a little bit, but only to make a distinction between "Subsim" the community and Subsim proper, which is Neal Stevens. The last I heard he was still on good terms with Ubisoft, so much so that the SHO dev team paid to fly him to Germany and show him what was going on.

Redline202, I take it you've never been to war. You go to war because you believe, rightly or wrongly, that your country, your family and your way of life are in danger. You do what you can because you believe that's the only reasonable thing you can do. I had absolutely no beef with the Vietnamese, but I helped kill them wholesale. As long as politicians see the need to start wars with other countries there will be more than enough young people willing to kill and die for whatever cause there is.

Like it or not, the Silent Hunter series is a war game, a combat simulator. That is the sole reason for its existence. If that bothers you, there are many far more peaceful games out there. Would you ask for a mod for the Medal Of Honor series to turn it into a "go for a walk and have a picnic" game?

:har::har::har:
On a serious note, I'm completely with you. Luckily, I never been at war, but I served in the Army (Alpine Paratroopers) enough to know also that every military personnel, especially a Captain, is so "channeled" in to his duty and discipline that it wouldn't think twice to sink a ship.No matter what kind. This without considering the "pride" factor. Coming back to port with all the torpedoes and no tonnage meant to be the whole flotilla joke!

:hmm2: If you don't want to sink ships, then why pay for something you won't use or want to change so it has no meaning at all?

:rotfl2:

I appreciate your point redline
I have just a couple of remarks. For a start, we should agree that sinking virtual ships is by far lesser harmful than sinking real ones. On the other hand, nothing prevents you from playing the game as a peace-time submarine simulator. Attacking other units is on you, and if you don't want to be attacked by the Allies, you can switch their side in DefSides.cfg :03:
